The first key piece of legislation under the disputed proposal is anticipated to be approved in \u200bparliament on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2062prime \u2063minister\u2019s physicians say the \u200boperation went very well on \u200dSunday. Although, \u200bNetanyahu still remained at Sheba \u200cHospital outside\u2062 Tel Aviv\u2063 on Sunday evening so that\u200b he could rest.<\/p>\n<p>In \u200da\u2064 brief video statement \u2064from the hospital, 73-year-old Netanyahu said he was feeling fine and thanked both his physicians and the public for their compassion.<\/p>\n<p>Netanyahu also \u2064stated that he was negotiating a compromise with his opponents while simultaneously preparing for a\u2064 vote on Monday to enshrine a major piece of legislation into law.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cI want\u2063 you to know that tomorrow \u2064morning I\u2019m joining my\u200d colleagues at the \u200bKnesset,\u201d\u2063 he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The \u2064revamp asks for broad changes intended to restrict the \u200cjudiciary\u2019s authority, ranging from limiting the Supreme \u2063Court\u2019s capacity to challenge \u2064parliamentary decisions, to modifying the way justices are chosen.<\/p>\n<p>Netanyahu and his supporters argue that the \u200bmeasures are necessary\u200c to limit the authority\u2064 of unelected judges. However, the prime minister\u2019s opponents and critics maintain that the proposal will destabilize the country\u2019s fragile system \u200dof checks and balances and push Israel toward authoritarianism.<\/p>\n<p>A growing number of military reservists in\u2064 crucial units have also declared that they \u200cwill not report for duty if the plan is implemented, \u200dincreasing concerns \u200bregarding \u2062Israel\u2019s security.<\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden had urged Netanyahu to halt the proposal, and Israel\u2019s\u2063 ceremonial president, Isaac Herzog, sought to mediate a deal between Netanyahu and his opponents. Herzog, who returned from a visit to the White \u2064House on Sunday, reportedly visited Netanyahu \u2063in his hospital room.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThis is a time of emergency,\u201d Herzog said. \u201cWe have to reach an agreement.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Herzog said he had intended \u200bto meet with Israel\u2019s opposition leader, \u200cYair Lapid, and Benny Gantz,\u200b the leader of another opposition\u200d party, National Unity, later on\u200c Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Tens of thousands of people gathered\u2064 for \u200cmajor protests in both support and opposition to the change.<\/p>\n<p>Netanyahu\u2019s followers flocked to downtown Tel Aviv, which is generally the scene of anti-government demonstrations, while his opponents\u200c marched on \u200bIsrael\u2019s Knesset and parliament.<\/p>\n<p>After completing a four-day march into Jerusalem from Tel Aviv\u2064 on Saturday, many of the demonstrators camped out in tents in \u200ca neighboring park.<\/p>\n<p>Tensions have been rising after seven months of widespread protests against the proposal, as legislators\u200c began \u200ba lengthy discussion over the first major item of the change ahead \u2064of Monday\u2019s vote.<\/p>\n<p>Simcha Rothman, a primary \u200cmover \u200bof \u2063the\u200c overhaul,\u200c lambasted the courts in a heated address starting the session, claiming they harmed Israel\u2019s democratic \u2064values by unjustly overturning government decisions.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThis small clause is meant to restore democracy to the state of \u200cIsrael,\u201d Rothman said. \u201cI call on Knesset members to approve the bill.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Netanyahu\u2019s weekly Cabinet meeting, \u200cwhich was set for Sunday morning, has been rescheduled.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally,\u200d his office also said that the prime minister\u2019s\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pete-buttigieg-ignored-warnings-from-state-attorneys-general-on-holiday-airline-travel\/\" title=\"Pete Buttigieg ignores warnings from state attorneys general on holiday airline travel\">future travel plans<\/a> to Cyprus and \u2063Turkey would \u2064be delayed as well.<\/p>\n<p>According to Israeli media,\u2063 last-ditch efforts\u2064 to break the standoff\u2063 were underway. However,\u200c it was unclear if they would \u201cbear fruit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Legislators will vote on Monday on the \u2064bill that would prohibit judges\u200d from overturning\u2064 government\u200b decisions on the basis that they are \u201cunreasonable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Proponents maintain that\u2063 the present \u201creasonability\u201d test gives courts disproportionate control over elected officials\u2019\u200d decision-making. Critics argue that \u2062abolishing it will allow the government to make arbitrary judgments, make \u2062inappropriate appointments or\u2064 firings, and allow corruption \u200cto flourish.<\/p>\n<p>Yair\u200b Lapid, the \u2063opposition leader in parliament, called on Netanyahu to\u200c begin compromise discussions and \u2062praised the protestors for standing up to the administration.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThe government of Israel launched a war of attrition\u200b against the citizens of Israel \u200dand discovered the people can\u2019t be \u2063broken. We won\u2019t \u2062give up on our children\u2019s\u2064 future,\u201d \u200dLapid \u2062asserted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A week earlier, Netanyahu \u2064was brought \u2064to the\u200b hospital in the middle of the night for what doctors \u200dbelieved at the\u2063 time was dehydration.<\/p>\n<p>The unexpected hospitalization for the pacemaker treatment suggested that his health problems were more serious than he had previously indicated.<\/p>\n<p>After last week\u2019s \u200chealth emergency, his physicians stated in a video message that they had inserted a\u200b gadget to monitor his heart.\u2062 When the gadget revealed irregularities,\u2062 physicians determined that he would need a pacemaker.<\/p>\n<p>Netanyahu has\u2063 had \u200ca \u201cconduction \u200ddisorder,\u201d or irregular heartbeat, \u2062for years, \u2063according to Professor Roy Beinart, senior physician and head of the Davidai Arrhythmia\u200b Center\u200c at Sheba Medical Center\u2019s Heart Institute.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThe implantation went smoothly, without any \u2062complications. He is not in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fda-lifts-restriction-on-remote-prescriptions-of-abortion-drugs\/\" title=\"FDA Lifts Restriction on Remote Prescriptions of Abortion Drugs\">life-threatening condition<\/a>,\u201d Beinart said.\u2063 \u201cHe feels great and is returning\u2062 to his daily routine.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Netanyahu \u200cand \u2064his \u200callies unveiled\u200c the restructuring proposal back\u2064 in January.<\/p>\n<p>After tremendous pressure from demonstrators and labor protests that delayed outbound flights and shut down sectors of the economy, Netanyahu postponed the overhaul \u200bin March.
