The human spirit thrives in free-market societies, whereas progressive, socialist-style economies stifle it. Innovation and excellence\u2062 flourish when the\u2064 human spirit is unleashed, but the squelching of creativity leads to mediocrity and\u200d stagnation. When human \u2064innovation \u200cis nurtured, problems are\u2064 solved; when it is held in check, they fester.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to \u2064today\u2019s \u2062environmental challenges, progressives \u2063run around \u200blike Chicken Little screaming, \u201cThe sky is falling! The sky is falling!\u201d For\u200b them, climate change is the number one existential threat \u2014 not just to humans,\u200b but\u2063 to the entire planet.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re wrong. The proof? In just one example, CO2 emissions per dollar of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/its-official-trump-crushes-record-for-largest-gdp-increase-in-us-history-3rd-quarter-gdp-up-33-1\/\" title=\"IT'S OFFICIAL: Trump Crushes Record for Largest GDP Increase in US History -- 3rd Quarter GDP Up 33.1%\">gross domestic product<\/a> in the European Union fell by 68 percent \u200dfrom \u200d1960 to 2014, according \u200cto the <a href=\"https:\/\/capitalistcreations.com\/if-youre-smart-youll-want-to-read-this\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cato Institute<\/a>\u2018s 2020 publication \u201cTen Global Trends Every Smart\u2064 Person Should Know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In June of this year, Joe Biden, speaking at the annual Capital Dinner of the \u200bLeague of Conservation Voters,\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2023\/06\/14\/remarks-by-president-biden-at-the-league-of-conservation-voters-annual-capital-dinner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> climate change \u201cis\u2062 the only truly existential threat.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cClimate change is\u2064 an existential threat,\u201d or some version of that alarmist phrase, is the rallying call of Marxist \u2062progressives \u200cin the United States and around the world. In\u200d 2022, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/en\/press-releases\/2022\/10\/climate-change-greatest-threat-world-has-ever-faced-un-expert-warns#:~:text=NEW%20YORK%20(21%20October%202022,price%2C%20a%20UN%20expert%20said.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">United Nations \u201cexpert\u201d<\/a> claimed,\u00a0 \u201cClimate\u2063 change is the greatest threat the world has ever \u2064faced.\u201d\u00a0 According to \u200dthe\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www3.weforum.org\/docs\/WEF_Global_Risks_Report_2023.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World \u200dEconomic Forum<\/a>, the number one global threat\u2062 of the next 10 years is \u201cFailure\u200c to mitigate climate change.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>What do the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-administration-releases-pro-transgender-propaganda-piece-rachel-levine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Biden administration<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/gop-senator-biden-basically-pledged-allegiance-united-nations-flag-climate-change-conference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.N.<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/wefs-terrifying-new-mission-calls-ai-write-unifying-new-bible-create-religions-actually-correct\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WEF<\/a> \u200c have in common? They\u2019re Marxist totalitarian globalist ideologues \u2014 experts at manipulating language to\u200d bend truth into lies and cherry-pick facts to promote their utopian delusions.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not an expert on climate change. I\u2019m\u200b not a scientist. But I am literate and capable of evaluating arguments \u2064based on fact and \u2064reason. Evaluating the specious\u2062 claims of politicians and global elites is\u200d a waste of life. I prefer to stick to \u200bthe facts.<\/p>\n<p>I have no reason\u2064 to believe the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cato.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cato Institute<\/a> is \u2064inventing or manipulating the facts in, \u201cTen Global Trends Every Smart \u200dPerson Should Know.\u201d I \u2062am\u200c aware Cato looks at issues from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/wrong-mike-pence-reveals-libertarian-stance-transgender-issues\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">libertarian<\/a> \u2063perspective, but this does make\u200c for confirmation bias on my part. Facts are facts, and Cato is a respected think tank.\u2064 I trust that they aren\u2019t making up \u200bfacts as they go along.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the \u200dfacts: It\u2019s not just the EU that has witnessed a decline in CO2 emission rates \u2014\u2062 the \u2063archvillain in the \u201cexistential threat of climate change.\u201d\u00a0 In the United States, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/even-without-green-new-deal-trumps-america-1-reducing-co2-emissions-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CO2 emissions<\/a> per dollar of gross domestic product fell \u200b66 percent between 1960 and 2014, according to Cato.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2063 report continued, \u201cAfter China abandoned its inefficient communist \u2063system of production,\u201d CO2 emissions per dollar of output fell 75 percent from 1978 to \u200c2014.\u00a0 The report concluded that \u201cThis downward trend in emissions per dollar is\u2064 largely the result of businesses\u2019 constant efforts to reduce their energy costs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The progressive climate-change narrative relies on projecting one side of the story. This completely undermines the credibility of\u200d their so-called argument. Nevertheless \u2014 \u200bdue to \u200dthe relentless spread of the narrative via mainstream media, NGOs and the government \u2062\u2014 people\u200c believe it. This one-sided political approach to environmental issues engenders \u200cunease and \u200bdepression, especially in younger people.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/lanplh\/article\/PIIS2542-5196(21)00278-3\/fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Lancet<\/a>\u2018s\u2063 2022 survey of \u206310,000\u2062 individuals ages 16 to 25 found that over 50 percent of respondents were \u201cvery or extremely worried\u201d about \u2062climate change, and more than 45 percent said their feelings about climate change impacted their day-to-day lives, \u2064according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/climate-change-anxiety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah \u200cSchwartz, a psychology professor\u2062 at Boston\u2019s Suffolk University, told CBS, \u201cHigher climate change anxiety is correlated with higher clinical symptoms of depression and anxiety. So, they know that\u200c the world is going to get to be\u200d a harder, darker, scarier place. And imagining themselves in that world feels really scary for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leave it to a university psychology professor to twist words to fit the survey findings into the progressive scheme. \u2064The youth in the survey don\u2019t <strong>know<\/strong> the\u2063 world is going to be a \u2063\u201charder, darker, scarier place.\u201d People like Schwartz \u200bare leading \u200bthem \u2064to<strong> believe<\/strong> it\u200b will because they \u2063are telling them\u200b one side of the story.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe people wouldn\u2019t be so\u200c ill at ease if they were afforded the opportunity to \u200bweigh both sides of the argument. For example, David Simon of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/op-eds\/climate-change-is-not-an-existential-threat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Washington Examiner<\/a> \u200c found that \u201cstudies published in May 2015, July 2021, and \u2064August 2021 analyzed millions of deaths in numerous countries over recent decades \u2063and found that cooler temperatures kill\u2063 several times more people than warmer temperatures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Environmental statistician Bj\u00f8rn Lomborg \u200cwrote \u2062in September 2021, \u201cGlobal warming now prevents more than 166,000 temperature-related fatalities annually,\u201d according to Simon\u2019s article.<\/p>\n<p>Matt Ridley\u2019s February 2022 essay in\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spiked-online.com\/2022\/02\/15\/why-global-warming-is-good-for-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Spiked<\/a> claimed that global\u2062 warming\u200c is a positive \u2064phenomenon because \u201cNASA data [shows] \u2062 that global greening has added 618,000 square kilometers of extra green leaves each year, equivalent to\u2062 three Great Britains.\u201d Maybe dour young activists\u200c like\u200b Greta Thunberg wouldn\u2019t feel so \u200bglum if they considered that.<\/p>\n<p>Progressives would have you believe \u2064that\u2062 natural\u2064 disasters support their \u200dassertions that climate \u2064change is an existential threat. The facts don\u2019t support it. The number of hurricanes per year, according\u2064 to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/climate-indicators\/climate-change-indicators-tropical-cyclone-activity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2021 EPA report<\/a>, has not increased since the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ebay-canceled-dr-seuss-but-you-can-still-buy-works-from-hitler-marx-and-more\/\" title=\"EBay Canceled Dr. Seuss, But You Can Still Buy Works From Hitler, Marx And More\">late 19th century<\/a>. \u201cThe total acreage burnt by\u2062 forest fires annually has decreased, and \u200bmost rivers flood less today than they used to,\u201d according to the Examiner.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/ourworldindata.org\/population-growth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">human population<\/a> has quadrupled from less than two billion \u2063in 1920 to almost eight billion, but the number of\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/ourworldindata.org\/natural-disasters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">people killed by natural disasters<\/a> each year has shrunk by about 90 percent.<\/p>\n<p>In one\u2062 more example, the <a href=\"https:\/\/ourworldindata.org\/air-pollution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-left-is-wrong-co2-has-dropped-68-per-dollar-of-gdp-thanks-to-capitalism\/\" title=\"CO2 Plummets 68% per GDP Dollar: Capitalism's Success\">global air pollution death rate<\/a><\/a> has declined by about 45 \u2062percent over the last three \u200cdecades. Does this sound like climate change is an existential\u200b threat to you?<\/p>\n<p>The point is, there are two or more sides to the story. The climate is a complex topic. There are good things and bad things that happen as the\u200d climate \u2062changes. There\u200c have been ice ages and droughts\u2064 in the \u2063past. They\u2019re nothing new. The climate changes. It will continue\u200d to do\u2062 so.<\/p>\n<p>With this in mind, the question becomes, \u201cCan humans adapt to climate change in ways that are good for them and\u2062 the planet?\u201d It depends.<\/p>\n<p>Do you believe the freedom inherent\u2063 in a\u2063 free-market economy is essential to human \u2062flourishing? Or \u200bdo you believe humans are intrinsically evil and, left to their own devices, \u200cwill destroy\u200b themselves and the planet?\u00a0 It\u2019s another complex question. There are many examples of great and small \u2062horrors committed by humans\u200b in the past, but there are also countless everyday examples of humans doing the right thing by promoting\u200d the common good.<\/p>\n<p>The answer for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/two-scotus-landmark-decisions-week-especially-good-news-christians\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Christians<\/a> is that \u2014 because\u2064 God created us with free will in order to freely choose to accept or reject Him \u2014 humans are capable of\u200b tremendous good \u2063or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/wisdom-god-lay-manger-christmas-shocked-devil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unspeakable evil<\/a>. It\u2019s the price of freedom.<\/p>\n<p>People of true\u2064 faith \u200c\u2014 because they believe there\u2064 will be consequences for our\u200b actions in this \u2063life and the next \u200b\u2014 try to do what is right for creation. When they fail,\u2064 as they inevitably will, they apologize, get up and try again.<\/p>\n<p>Marxist progressives, on the\u200b other hand, latch onto issues like climate change and reduce it to their religion \u200b\u2014 politics.\u200c They \u200cpromote policies like the\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/tucker-carlson-europes-energy-woes-highlight-green-new-deal-will-america-world\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Green New Deal<\/a>. Why? Because they want \u200cto play God by enslaving human potential.<\/p>\n<p>Why? For progressives, humans \u200care a vile species and human freedom \u2014 and here we\u2019re \u2063talking about the freedom necessary for <em>laissez faire<\/em> capitalism to function \u2014 must\u200c be curtailed to save the planet. Only elites like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-microsoft-axes-thousands-employees-day-ceo-appears-klaus-schwab-davos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Klaus Schwab<\/a>, they believe, will \u2064be allowed to make your economic decisions.<\/p>\n<p>You will assimilate. So hurry up \u200dand buy an electric vehicle, whether you can afford it or not. Get rid of that\u200d gas stove. \u200bQuit flying around in jet\u200b airplanes \u2014 they, too, are reserved only for the elite, so \u200cthey can fly around\u200b the planet. Plebes like you \u2062and\u2063 I just need to\u200b do what we\u2019re told.<\/p>\n<p>The progressive politicization of\u2063 climate change is the real existential threat. It threatens to\u200b thwart the human spirit. It strives to squelch human creativity by reducing it purely\u200b to political\u2064 economics. Marxist ideology promotes mediocrity\u2063 over excellence, blind obedience to\u200c progressive elites rather\u2062 than freely given obedience to God.<\/p>\n<p>One thing is for certain: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/op-ed-supporters-free-market-system-need-attend-davos-not-just-attack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Free market<\/a> capitalism progressed exponentially in \u200dthe \u206420th and 21st centuries \u2063as businesses developed \u200bincentives to create newer, cheaper energies. As a result, our negative impact on the planet has decreased.<\/p>\n<p>The answer to our environmental concerns\u200b is competition \u200dand more free enterprise, not government control and coercion, forcing everyone, including the poor, to\u200d immediately abandon fossil fuels.<\/p>\n<p>There are problems with the current <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritage.org\/progressivism\/heritage-explains\/woke-corporate-capitalism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">woke corporate capitalism<\/a> model and its increasing identification with progressive ideals. Maybe Biden and company should be working to promote the competition real capitalism thrives on, instead of telling you the world is\u2062 going to hell and it\u2019s your fault. It\u2019s not.<\/p>\n<p>The world is going to hell because the progressives in power <em>do not<\/em> \u2064hold as self-evident \u201cthat all men are created equal, that they are endowed by \u2062their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life,\u2062 Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To hell with them.
