The toll roads will\u200b reportedly cover \u201cmuch\u201d of Manhattan\u2019s \u200droads and the tolls will be collected though E-ZPass. For those who do not \u2063have E-ZPass, a\u2063 bill \u2063will\u200c be mailed to the home of the registered vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>The plan will add\u200d those fees on top of the always hefty tolls\u2063 that commuters pay \u200dwhen they use many of the bridges\u200b and tunnels that connect commuters across the Hudson, \u2064East, and\u200d Harlem rivers.<\/p>\n<p>Murphy\u2063 said that\u2064 the agency\u2019s approval of the\u2062 plan\u2064 in \u2062June was \u201cmisguided\u201d and violates the National Environmental Policy Act. Here\u2019s why. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/VZ9lXIUMMn\">pic.twitter.com\/VZ9lXIUMMn<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Governor\u200c Phil Murphy (@GovMurphy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovMurphy\/status\/1682498521247645696?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 21, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script type=\"text\/plain\" data-service=\"twitter\" data-category=\"marketing\" async data-cmplz-src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cAfter refusing to conduct\u2064 a full environmental review\u200b of the MTA\u2019s poorly designed tolling \u2062program, the FHWA has unlawfully fast-tracked the agency\u2019s attempt\u200c to line its own coffers\u200d at the expense of New\u200c Jersey \u2064families,\u201d Murphy said Friday in\u200d a statement. \u201cThe costs of\u200d standing idly by while the MTA uses New Jersey residents to help balance its budget sheets are more than economic.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The\u200c governor went to argue that New\u200d Jersey will now be\u2063 receiving the negative impacts of the plan \u200bwithout receiving any benefits that had been listed.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cAt the MTA\u2019s own admission, its tolling program would divert traffic and shift pollution to many vulnerable \u2064New \u200bJersey communities, impacting air \u200dquality\u200b while offering nothing to mitigate such considerable harm,\u201d\u2062 the governor argued. \u201cToday we stand as a unified front against this reckless scheme and reaffirm our commitment to\u2063 combat the unjust taxation of our hardworking residents by other states.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Officials in New York argued that the new plan is meant to reduce traffic congestion, \u200dimprove air quality, and\u2064 raise money for the public transit system in\u2062 New York. However, the governor\u200d pushed back saying that the commuters will find other means of transportation into the city to avoid paying the\u2064 fees, which will result in more traffic and air\u2062 pollution.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201c(The FHA) finding that the MTA congestion pricing program will \u2063not have any significant impacts is an error,\u201d Murphy, said, adding that the tolls\u2063 are \u2064\u201canti-environmental, anti-commuter, and anti-business.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The new plan is expected to generate\u200c around $1 billion \u2064yearly, city officials claimed that those funds will be used to improve the subway, bus and commuter systems in the systems.<\/p>\n<p>Stay informed!
