Version: 4.0.47--><div class=\"post_content\">\n<h2>Former President Donald Trump\u2064 Defends Himself Against Special Counsel Investigation<\/h2>\n<p>Former President Donald Trump \u2063is not obliged to appear before a grand jury in connection with\u200d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/historic-significance-of-georgia-senate-contests\/\" title=\"Historic Significance of Georgia Senate Contests\">special counsel investigation<\/a> of the 2020 presidential election, attorney John Lauro said on July 21.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no need to appear\u2063 in front of \u2064any grand jury right now.\u2064 President Trump did absolutely nothing wrong,\u201d\u2062 Mr. Lauro, who\u2064 is representing Mr. \u2064Trump in the special counsel probe,\u2064 told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/video\/6331632263112\">Fox News.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Mr. Lauro \u2064said the special prosecutor, \u200dwhom he said served\u2062 as part of the \u201cBiden Justice Department,\u201d is targeting the Republican front-runner amid a heated presidential election campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the first time in our history, a sitting\u200c president is using the \u200bDepartment of Justice to go after a political opponent criminally while that political opponent is leading in the polls,\u201d he told the news \u2064outlet.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Lauro remarked on the \u201cinteresting\u201d timing, noting that his client received \u200can invitation to appear before\u200c a\u2064 grand jury in the same week that \u2062President Joe Biden was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-not-obligated-to-appear-before-grand-jury-attorney-john-lauro\/\" title=\"Trump doesn't have to go before the Grand Jury, says Attorney John Lauro.\">facing massive\u200c bribery allegations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, Mr. Trump<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/trump-received-letter-stating-he-is-target-of-january-6-investigation_5405674.html\"> said\u200d that<\/a> he received a letter\u2063 on July 16 informing him that he is a target of the special counsel investigation of the Jan. 6 \u2064Capitol breach. \u2063He was given\u2064 four days \u200dto report to a grand jury.<\/p>\n<p>In a message posted on \u2063his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-new-acting-attorney-general-jeff-rosen-recently-wrote-an-essay-on-foreign-influence-in-us-elections-this-tells-us-a-little-about-his-knowledge-of-whats-going-on-today\/\" title=\"The New Acting Attorney General Jeff Rosen Recently Wrote an Essay on Foreign Influence in US Elections \u2013 This Tells Us A Little About His Knowledge of What\u2019s Going On Today\">social media platform<\/a>, Truth \u2063Social, on July 18, the former president suggested that the short deadline may mean he would be arrested and indicted.<\/p>\n<p>According to his\u200c attorney, the focus of the probe\u2063 is related to Mr. Trump\u2019s alleged efforts\u200d to obstruct the Jan. 6, 2021, election \u200ccount and whether he engaged in any actions to \u200cintimidate people \u200dfollowing his election loss.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only thing that President Trump asked is a pause in the counting so \u2063those seven contested states could either re-audit or recertify,\u201d Mr.\u2063 Lauro said. \u201cI\u2019ve never heard of anyone get indicted for asking for an audit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s an example of really\u2064 the\u2063 criminal justice system use that is being used against the victim. Because here what the president was saying in real time after November\u200c is all these election discrepancies,\u200b all\u200d these \u200dunlawful acts at a state level\u2026 what he \u200basked ultimately was to find out the truth,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Lauro stated that if he represents Mr. Trump in court,\u2063 his\u200d representation would also encompass \u2063\u201cthe sovereign citizens of this country who deserve to hear the truth.\u201d The attorney also \u200cmentioned that he intends to request that cameras be permitted in the courtroom.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Trump was charged earlier this year in connection to payments for a non-disclosure agreement in a state case\u2062 in New York.
