The delay, now set for 2025, is attributed to\u2064 a shortage of skilled labor.<\/p>\n<p>This setback comes amidst deteriorating trade relations between\u200d Washington and Beijing over the\u200d past several years.<\/p>\n<p>TSMC Chairman Mark\u200b Liu\u200b broke the \u2064news to investors during a second-quarter earnings call on\u2063 July 21. However,\u200b it \u200bnow only produces around 10 percent of the global supply.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200cvulnerability of America&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/intel-removes-mention-of-xinjiang-after-pressure-from-china\/\" title=\"Intel Removes Mention Of Xinjiang After Pressure From China\">extended supply chain<\/a> across \u2063the Pacific for critical computer chips has become a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-considering-not-giving-trump-intelligence-briefings\/\" title=\"Biden Considering Not Giving Trump Intelligence Briefings\">national security risk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Fears of China&#8217;s growing chipmaking industry have prompted Washington to impose measures against Beijing while investing billions of dollars to strengthen America&#8217;s semiconductor industry.<\/p>\n<p>The pandemic further highlighted the vulnerability of American dependence\u200b on computer chips from countries like Taiwan, which is increasingly susceptible to attacks from China.<\/p>\n<p>Last summer, the\u200b Biden administration passed the CHIPS and Science Act, which allocates $280 billion to bring more domestic chip development and manufacturing back home and create jobs.<\/p>\n<p>The investment includes tax\u200b breaks for foreign companies that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tsmc-delays-arizona-factory-opening-due-to-insufficient-skilled-local-talent\/\" title=\"TSMC postpones Arizona factory opening due to lack of skilled local talent.\">establish computer chip \u2063manufacturing plants<\/a> in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>In December, TSMC informed\u200b the Biden administration that it would triple its investment in the project to $40 billion, making it one \u200cof the \u200blargest foreign investments in American \u200dhistory.<\/p>\n<p>The Wall Street Journal reported that the company initially applied for $15 billion in funding under\u2064 the CHIPS act.<\/p>\n<h2>Taiwanese Chip Maker to Build Chips in the US<\/h2>\n<p>TSMC assured \u200bthe Biden administration that\u2063 it would meet the act&#8217;s conditions by creating over 1,600 high-tech professional jobs and generating thousands of indirect jobs\u200d in the semiconductor ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>However, Mr. Liu \u200brevealed that the plant, under construction since April 2021, now faces a shortage of workers \u2062with the specialized expertise required for equipment installation in a semiconductor-grade facility.<\/p>\n<p>The TSMC Chairman \u200dadded that the company is working to improve\u2063 the situation by sending experienced technicians from Taiwan to\u200b train local skilled workers \u2062in the United States for a short period of time.<\/p>\n<p>In late June, TSMC confirmed to Reuters that it was working \u200dto send technicians from Taiwan to train local workers and expedite the launch, ensuring a fast ramp-up\u200c of\u2063 its factory.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The additional number who will be going has yet to be determined,&#8221; and Taiwanese workers &#8220;will only\u2064 be in the state for a limited time,&#8221; the company \u2062stated.<\/p>\n<p>ASML Holding NV CEO Peter Wennink told Bloomberg that the delay was not unexpected, given the challenge of accessing skilled workers for building semiconductor fabrication plants.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;People don&#8217;t seem to realize that when we start building those fabs across the \u200cglobe now\u200d and&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>call, stating that the delay in production at TSMC&#8217;s Arizona chip plant is attributed to a shortage of skilled labor.
