This course aims to help nurses recognize\u2064 the \u200chistory of \u2062racism in healthcare \u2064and make positive changes in \u200dtheir behaviors\u2063 and \u2064practices. Failure to complete the training by the specified\u200d deadline \u2063may result in disciplinary action.<\/p>\n<h3>Training Developed by the Kentucky Nurses \u200bAssociation<\/h3>\n<p>The mandatory continuing education training was developed by the Kentucky Nurses \u200dAssociation (KNA) and must be completed by all nurses by July 1. The\u200c KNA Board of \u200dDirectors Treasurer, Arica \u2064Brandford,\u200c and \u2064KNA CEO, Delanor Manson, are responsible for delivering the training.<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca Wall, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/kentucky-requires-nurses-to-take-training-on-structural-racism-and-white-splaining\/\" title=\"Kentucky mandates nurse training on 'structural racism' and 'white-splaining'.\">highly experienced certified \u2062registered nurse \u2062anesthetist<\/a> in Kentucky, expressed her initial concerns about the training. She felt that the\u200b course unfairly\u2062 labeled all \u200dnurses as racist and questioned whether she should comply. However, she ultimately decided to complete the training, despite the professional struggle it presented.<\/p>\n<p>The training\u2064 emphasizes that \u200cgood intentions alone are not enough to address implicit bias in\u200d healthcare. It stresses the importance of understanding \u2063racism and bias as part of a larger \u2063conversation. One slide even includes a powerful image of Ku Klux Klan members burning a cross to \u200chighlight the historical context of racism.<\/p>\n<h3>Controversy and Concerns<\/h3>\n<p>Some nurses, like\u2063 Laura Morgan, a program manager at the medical \u200cadvocacy group\u200b Do No Harm, expressed concerns about the\u200b potential \u2064consequences of not completing the training.\u2062 Morgan believes that disciplinary\u2064 action could include non-renewal of a nurse&#8217;s license.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2064 Kentucky Board of Nursing, however,\u2064 disputes these claims, \u200cstating that the training is\u200c required by regulation\u2062 and failure to comply could result in civil sanctions or discipline. It is worth noting that \u200dthe training coincides with the licensure and license renewal period.<\/p>\n<p>The training also addresses different forms of racism, including\u2063 overt and covert racism. They argue that the changes, including mandatory implicit bias \u2062training and redefining terminology, make it harder for them to \u2064provide individualized care to patients.<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca \u2063Wall believes that \u200cthe push for\u200c this training comes from academics entrenched in woke ideology who may be disconnected\u2064 from the realities \u2063of nursing practice. She feels that their influence \u2064is detrimental to the profession and \u200bhinders the ability to meet patients&#8217; unique\u2064 needs.<\/p>\n<p>Wall\u200b wrote \u200da letter to the American Nurses Association (ANA) expressing her concerns about the organization&#8217;s ideological shift but has not received a response.
