President Joe Biden\u2019s administration, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), and a\u2063 group of Republican lawmakers have found common \u200bground.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/heres-whats-in-the-debt-ceiling-deal-and-who-benefits_5299920.html\">deal to increase\u200d the U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/moderate-democrats-white-house-resist-calls-to-eliminate-filibuster\/\" title=\"Moderate Democrats, White House resist calls to eliminate filibuster\">debt limit<\/a><\/a> \u2062last month included a provision \u2063to approve the construction of the \u200dMountain Valley Pipeline, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-sen-manchin-gop-lawmakers-defend-gas-pipeline-challenged-by-environmental-group\/\" title=\"Biden, Manchin, GOP Back Gas Pipeline Amid Environmental Challenge\">natural gas project set<\/a> \u2064to run between Virginia and West Virginia. However, the Wilderness Society, an environmental group, has challenged \u2062the\u200d pipeline\u2019s construction and obtained a \u200ccourt order that temporarily halts the project.<\/p>\n<p>The developers\u200c of the \u2062Mountain Valley Pipeline have now \u2064turned to the U.S. Supreme Court, seeking to overturn the appeals court&#8217;s decision and proceed with the\u2064 pipeline. In support of this request, Sen. Joe \u2064Manchin filed an amicus curiae brief, followed by \u200dnine Republican lawmakers who \u2062also submitted their own amicus brief expressing their support for\u200c the pipeline \u2064project.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, \u200bthe Biden administration has also voiced its\u200b support\u200c for\u200b the\u2062 pipeline project. U.S. Solicitor \u2064General Elizabeth Prelogar argued that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mccarthy-won-the-debt-ceiling-fight-but-will-he-lose-speakers-gavel\/\" title=\"McCarthy triumphed in debt ceiling battle, but risks losing speaker position.\">debt limit bill passed<\/a> by Congress \u200chad removed the power of lower\u2063 courts to \u2063stop the pipeline&#8217;s construction.<\/p>\n<p>While President Biden, Sen. Manchin, and the Republican\u200d lawmakers stand united in their support \u200cfor the Mountain\u2063 Valley Pipeline, \u200bsome Democratic lawmakers\u2062 have taken the side of the Wilderness Society in opposing the project. They argue that the pipeline poses risks to the\u2062 environment and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrat-sen-tester-canceling-keystone-pipeline-was-a-mistake\/\" title=\"Democrat Sen. Tester: Canceling Keystone pipeline was a mistake\">private property rights<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Fossil Fuel Projects Divide Democrats<\/h2>\n<p>While the battle \u200bover the Mountain Valley Pipeline has brought together unlikely allies, it has also highlighted divisions within the\u2064 Democratic Party. Several Democratic lawmakers\u200d have sided\u2062 with the Wilderness Society in opposing\u200d the \u2064pipeline project.<\/p>\n<p>In a joint \u2063amicus \u200cbrief, Democratic Virginia Reps. Jennifer McClellan, Don Beyer, Gerry Connolly, Robert C. \u201cBobby\u201d Scott, and Jennifer Wexton \u200bexpressed their concerns\u200c about the \u2064pipeline&#8217;s potential \u2063impact on streams, wetlands, and \u2063private property.
