According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/07\/20\/indicting-a-cop-and-paying-blm-protesters-13m-proves-it-nyc-has-its-priorities-upside-down\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Post<\/a>, it\u2019s \u201cfor fighting police.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Much\u200d of that\u2062 aforementioned frustration appeared to be captured in that Post article from \u2064the outlet\u2019s\u200b Editorial Board, titled \u201cIndicting a cop and paying BLM protesters $13M proves it: NYC has its priorities \u200dupside down,\u201d which\u2063 blasted the settlement decision as \u201cjust the latest turn in a series \u2062of madcap moves where \u200cofficials <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/former-dem-senator-goes-tv-breaks-defending-hunter-biden-back-off\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rush\u200b to \u200cdefend<\/a> \u2014 and even reward \u2014 \u200dlaw-breakers.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The AP, not brimming with quite the same anger \u2064as the Post\u2019s \u200ceditorial board, noted that the settlement still needs approval from\u2064 a judge, so nothing is finalized yet.<\/p>\n<p>If approved, however, the settlement \u201cwould be among the most\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-york-city-to-pay-13-7-million-to-george-floyd-rioters-for-mass-arrests\/\" title=\"NYC to compensate George Floyd protesters with .7M for mass arrests.\">expensive payouts<\/a> ever awarded in a lawsuit\u201d that \u2063pertains to \u201cmass arrests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit itself was focused on the \u200dprotests \u200bthat occurred in New York following the highly polarizing and publicized death of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/people-cant-believe-top-band-rhymed-george-floyd-new-cover-didnt-start-fire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">George Floyd<\/a> in\u200d the summer of 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Floyd was killed after being arrested in Minneapolis.\u2062 Derek Chauvin, the officer who put his knee on Floyd\u2019s neck during the fatal altercation was ultimately <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/city-deprived-derek-chauvin-fair-trial-appeal-minnesota-supreme-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">found guilty<\/a> of murder for\u200d his role in Floyd\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>Once the anger over Floyd\u2019s death metastasized into riotous rage, \u2063New York City was not immune. The lawsuit in question sought to focus \u200con \u201cjust\u201d\u2064 18 \u2063of the numerous riots \u2063that ravaged the city.<\/p>\n<p>The AP, citing legal representation for the plaintiffs, \u200dnoted that the \u201cpeople arrested or subjected to force by NYPD at those [18] \u2063events will each be eligible for $9,950 in compensation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To the chagrin of New York taxpayers, this is hardly the first hefty \u200csettlement to emerge from the George Floyd protests.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/city-paying-millions-protesters-faced-police-george-floyd-riots\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In March<\/a>, yet another settlement \u2062was\u2063 made\u200d under similar legal circumstances, with costs totaling over $10 million\u200c in that case.<\/p>\n<p>That settlement focused \u2064on one \u2063particular riot New York\u2019s Mott Haven\u200b neighborhood in the Bronx.<\/p>\n<p>These\u2064 hefty settlements don\u2019t\u200d appear to be in\u200d short supply.\u2062 The AP noted that \u201cmany other \u200ccities across the \u200bU.S. are negotiating their own settlements with protesters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The key issue \u200cat the heart of many of these settlements, and perhaps explaining the shocking success rates of these George Floyd-related civil lawsuits, is a First-Amendment issue.<\/p>\n<p>Legal representatives for \u2063plaintiffs have argued that their clients\u2019 First Amendment rights were violated through police \u2062brutality and unlawful detainment.<\/p>\n<p>Not every arrested protester\u2063 will be eligible for \u2064the latest round of\u200b New York settlement\u200b money, but it appears a vast majority of\u2063 them will receive some\u2064 form \u2064of \u200ccompensation.<\/p>\n<p>While some people being paid may very well have been\u200b subject to excessive force,\u200d it seems like a statistical impossibility that all of the people receiving\u200b payouts are \u2063innocent victims.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, New York\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/many-people-left-new-york-city-amid-crime-covid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/14-independent-voters-weigh-in-on-bidens-presidency-you-cant-really-do-much-worse\/\" title=\"14 Independent Voters Weigh In On Biden\u2019s Presidency: \u2018You Can\u2019t Really Do Much Worse\u2019\">general frustration<\/a><\/a> about this settlement may \u200dbe\u2062 best summed up by\u2062 the Post\u2019s editorial board: \u201cCan any New \u200bYorker feel safe in a world like that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The post <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/nyc-pay-george-floyd-blm-rioters-13-million-historic-settlement-mass-arrests-us\/\">NYC to Pay George Floyd-BLM Rioters $13 Million in Historic Settlement for\u2062 Mass Arrests in \u200bUS<\/a> appeared first on <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\">The Western\u2064 Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As Americans witnessed fellow citizens loot, burn, and destroy businesses after George Floyd&#8217;s death in 2020, they wondered about the justice that would be served.
