Gaetz invites Britney Spears to testify before Congress\">court documents filed<\/a> in Nebraska\u2019s Madison County, Burgess was sentenced to 90 days\u2062 in jail and two years of probation. Under the plea \u2062agreement, misdemeanor charges of false reporting and concealing \u200da death were dropped.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThe\u200b Court \u200cspecifically finds that while probation is appropriate, confinement is necessary because without \u200cthis confinement, it would depreciate the seriousness of\u2062 the crime or promote disrespect for the law,\u201d\u2064 the judge\u2019s order\u2064 read.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The investigation into Celeste Burgess and her \u200bmother, Jessica Burgess, commenced in late April 2022 after concerns \u2064arose that \u2062the \u200b17-year-old had given birth to a stillborn\u2063 fetus. Facebook messages between the mother and daughter \u2062were \u200bused as evidence,\u2062 revealing discussions about obtaining abortion pills and \u2062plans to burn \u201cthe evidence.\u201d The fetus\u2019s body, exhumed by authorities, displayed injuries indicating possible burning after the \u2062termination\u200c of the \u200bpregnancy.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, Celeste Burgess claimed that the fetus was delivered stillborn, according to an affidavit supporting a search warrant. However, further investigations by the authorities alleged that\u2062 she had undergone a medication \u2064abortion, which violated the state\u2019s prohibition on abortions after 20 weeks. Court documents suggest that Celeste Burgess was around 28 weeks pregnant when her pregnancy\u2062 was terminated.<\/p>\n<p>Jessica, \u2063Celeste\u2019s 42-year-old mother, faced even more\u200b serious charges, including a felony count of performing an abortion beyond 20 weeks and a felony count of performing an abortion as\u200b someone other than a licensed physician. As part of a plea bargain, Jessica Burgess pleaded guilty to two felonies:\u200c removing, concealing, or abandoning a dead human\u2064 body and performing an abortion beyond \u206420 weeks, along with \u200ba \u2063misdemeanor charge of false reporting.\u2062 The other charges \u200bagainst her were dismissed.<\/p>\n<p>Jessica Burgess\u2019s\u2064 attorney requested a psychological examination for her\u200d client before sentencing, scheduled \u2062for September 22<sup>nd<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>The case took place against the backdrop \u200bof Nebraska\u2019s \u200brecent abortion legislation.
