Coach To ESPN: \u2018Not Requiring NBA Players To Be Vaccinated Is Horse S**t\u2019\">conditioning coach<\/a> Kevin \u200bMaxen\u2062 received blowout coverage from\u200c pro-LGBT\u200b sports site <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outsports.com\/2023\/7\/20\/23799193\/kevin-maxen-nfl-coach-coming-out-jacksonville-jaguars-boyfriend\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OutSports<\/a> over his coming out publicly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaxen is\u2063 coming out to live\u200b openly with his \u2064boyfriend and inspire others to \u200bbe \u2062their true selves,\u201d the outlet \u2063gushes in a\u2062 headline before even \u2063getting to the \u200carticle.<\/p>\n<p>As is often \u200cthe case in\u200d these scenarios, Maxen was \u200dlauded for his unrelenting\u2062 bravery and undaunted heroism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow \u2064in the \u2062NFL, he said he is hopeful \u2062about\u200c the reaction Jaguars players will have to his truth,\u201d \u2064OutSports\u2019 Cyd Zeigler wrote. \u201cHe\u2019s confident his work ethic, personality and commitment \u200bto the team\u2019s success will win over \u200cany doubters.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Now,\u200b it is worth pointing out that nowhere\u2063 in the article is there much mention of those \u2063\u201cdoubters,\u201d so it\u2019s not \u2064entirely clear what particular hardship those \u201cdoubters\u201d are a part of.<\/p>\n<p>If anything,\u200d the \u200dOutSports article painted the picture of a man who\u200d may have been overly concerned about his sexuality.<\/p>\n<p>When Maxen\u200c and his partner, only identified as \u201cNick,\u201d told old high school \u2063friends about their unrevealed homosexuality, the response they got was decidedly\u200c muted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy didn\u2019t you just tell us earlier?\u201d they asked the two.<\/p>\n<p>Maxen also isn\u2019t facing any pressure whatsoever from his \u2064superiors over his sexuality \u2014 in fact, it\u2019s quite the opposite, \u2062according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/38044286\/jags-maxen-first-male-american-pro-sports-coach-come-gay\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ESPN<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKevin is a Jacksonville Jaguar through\u2064 and through, and\u2063 a key\u200c member of \u2063our football team and community,\u201d Jaguars owner \u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fans-worried-as-nfl-owner-buys-iconic-london-stadium-addresses-relocation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shad Khan<\/a> told ESPN in a statement. \u201cI look forward \u200bto seeing Kevin next week at\u2063 training\u200d camp, and hope that he comes to work each day\u200b during camp and through the season\u2063 feeling \u2063confident, free and \u2063at peace. \u200bI know our players and staff feel the same.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marcus Pollard, who \u200cis Jacksonville\u2019s director of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/one-year-after-the-death-of-george-floyd-the-sports-world-reacts\/\" title=\"One Year After The Death Of George Floyd, The Sports World Reacts\">player development<\/a>, told OutSports: \u201cIn an environment that is diversifying, it \u2064is a privilege\u2063 to work alongside Kevin who is hardworking, dedicated and thriving as a strength and conditioning coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maxen\u2019s revelation also appears to be a first in \u200bthose aforementioned \u2064top four North American sports, as\u2062 Zeigler\u2064 notes that the coach \u201cis believed to\u200d be the first-ever publicly out male \u2064coach in major American\u2064 men\u2019s pro sports.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ESPN offered\u2064 no such\u200c doubts,\u200c and flat-out stated that \u2063Maxen was\u200d \u201cthe first male coach in major American men\u2019s professional sports to publicly \u2063come \u200cout \u2063as gay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Regardless, the \u200dmove is clearly being celebrated, \u2063as evidenced by the two glowing \u2064pieces from the \u2064largest sports\u2064 site in the world and the largest sports site in\u2064 the\u200b world with a specific LGBT tilt.<\/p>\n<p>Most recently, the NFL again welcomed a member\u200b of its fraternity \u201ccoming out\u201d when \u2063then-Las Vegas Raider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/lineman-becomes-first-active-player-nfl-history-come-gay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carl Nassib<\/a> (he is currently \u200can unsigned free agent) came out as gay in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Before that, the next-most-prominent gay\u200d athlete in the NFL was former St. Louis Rams\u200d defensive end Michael Sam, whose NFL career\u2064 never grew beyond \u201cbeing the first openly gay player drafted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Jaguars will next\u200d take a football field August 12, when \u200bthe team kicks\u2063 its preseason off with\u200d a\u200b
