Jordan, Biggs condemn FBI FISA warrant abuses\">court opinion released<\/a> on Friday, it was revealed that FBI\u2062 employees and agents had conducted inappropriate\u2064 searches of foreign surveillance data using the last names\u200b of\u200b a state senator and a U.S. senator.\u200b This finding\u200b was included in a\u200d 117-page order\u200c that \u2062was declassified on July 16 by the foreign intelligence surveillance \u2063court. The\u200c court document disclosed that\u2062 an unnamed FBI analyst had conducted four separate searches\u200c using the senators&#8217; last names, revealing that the lawmakers \u200bwere being targeted by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/15-media-personalities-claimed-hunters-laptop-emails-were-likely-russian-propaganda-before-new-york-times-authenticated\/\" title=\"15 Media Personalities Claimed Hunter\u2019s Laptop Emails Were Likely Russian Propaganda Before New York Times Authenticated\">foreign intelligence operation<\/a>. However, \u2062the Justice \u2062Department&#8217;s national security division determined that \u2064these searches did not meet the FBI&#8217;s internal standards.<\/p>\n<p>Another instance of improper \u200bsearch\u2062 was also highlighted in the\u200c court opinion. \u200bAn FBI employee\u2062 had\u2064 queried the Social \u2063Security \u2064number\u200c of a state \u2063judge who had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fbi-wrongly-searched-surveillance-data-for-us-senators-name-court-finds\/\" title=\"FBI mistakenly searched surveillance data for US Senator, court confirms.\">reported civil rights\u2063 violations<\/a> by a municipal chief of police. \u2062The judge&#8217;s Social \u2063Security number was\u2063 accessed without sufficient evidence to authorize the search.<\/p>\n<p>The court opinion did not disclose the names, states, or \u200cparty affiliations of the individuals involved, but it did\u200d confirm that foreign entities were targeting \u200dthese \u2064officials. While the unnamed U.S. senator has been notified of the search, the state senator and state judge have not been informed.<\/p>\n<h2>Other Details<\/h2>\n<p>The court filing also revealed a decrease in\u200d the total number of searches for Americans. Over a year-long period ending in March, \u200dthe FBI conducted\u2062 approximately 180,000 searches of U.S. citizens \u200dand other American entities, \u200bsignificantly lower than the previous \u200breported number of \u2062around 2 million searches between December 2020 \u2064and February 2021.\u200d This decrease indicates less intrusion into\u200d the private communications of U.S. persons, according\u2062 to the foreign surveillance judge.<\/p>\n<p>However, these \u200cimproper\u2064 searches \u2063could \u200bjeopardize the reauthorization of the Section 702 surveillance collection program, which is set to expire by the end of this year.
