This\u200d decision comes at a crucial time, as most of the voting\u200d in \u2064the Republican Party&#8217;s presidential primary and caucuses will \u200cbe completed by then.<\/p>\n<h3>A middle-of-the-road \u2064approach<\/h3>\n<p>Judge Cannon&#8217;s decision to push the trial back by several months \u200dreflects a\u2063 compromise between the requests made by both the prosecutors and the defense. Special Counsel Jack Smith had initially\u200c sought for the\u2063 trial to begin in December 2023, before any votes were cast \u2063in the presidential primaries and caucuses. On the other hand, Trump had\u200c pushed for a delay until after the presidential election on November 5,\u2064 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The New York Times has reported that the\u200d jurors will be selected from \u2063counties that\u200c Trump &#8220;won handily&#8221; in the last two presidential elections, adding\u200d an interesting\u2062 dynamic\u200b to \u2064the trial.<\/p>\n<h3>Equal treatment under the law<\/h3>\n<p>David Harbach, one of Smith&#8217;s top \u2063deputies who led the 2012 case against former \u2063Sen.\u2062 John Edwards (D-NC),\u200b emphasized that Trump should be treated like any other U.S. citizen in this case. Harbach stated,\u2063 &#8220;Mr. Trump\u2063 is not the president.
