(Florence Lo\/Reuters)<br \/>\n    <\/figure>\n<p>The participants&#8217; voluntary commitments include \u2062a pledge to allow independent testing on AI systems before they are released to\u2062 the general\u200b public.<\/p>\n<p>This \u2062latest \u2064summit follows a previous meeting\u200c between Vice President Kamala Harris and leaders of various \u2064firms involved in AI products and services.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2062 rapid advancement of \u200cAI, exemplified by last year&#8217;s release of ChatGPT, has prompted the United States and other countries to scramble for regulations, primarily focused on safety.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) played a key role in coordinating a classified briefing on AI for senators at the White House on July 11.<\/p>\n<p>The United Nations Security Council also held \u2064its first-ever meeting on AI regulation on July 18.<\/p>\n<h2>International Coordination<\/h2>\n<p>In its announcement of the voluntary commitments, the White House emphasized its coordination with other countries on AI risk.<\/p>\n<p>These states include its Five Eyes partners\u2014Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK\u2014as well as Israel, the \u2063Netherlands, Germany, France, Italy, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, India, the \u200dPhilippines, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Kenya, Nigeria, and the United Arab\u2063 Emirates.<\/p>\n<p>China and Russia were\u200b noticeably absent from the list.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t think I want to get into the details of our diplomacy,&#8221; the White House official said when asked about the United States&#8217; international efforts\u200b on AI.<\/p>\n<p>The White\u2063 House also indicated that President Biden will issue another executive\u2062 order on AI, although no specific details\u2063 were provided regarding \u2064its timing or content.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re examining actions across \u200bagencies and departments given the cross-cutting nature of AI,&#8221; the White House official informed reporters.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The president is very\u200c clear about his priorities: prioritizing equity,\u2064 protecting consumers\u2063 and\u200b workers, and safeguarding our national security,&#8221; the\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/u-s-sanctions-russia-over-navalny-arrest-and-alleged-poisoning\/\" title=\"U.S. Sanctions Russia Over Navalny Arrest And Alleged Poisoning\">official added<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3018192\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n        <a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2019\/07\/26\/GettyImages-1035331886-1200x800.jpg\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><\/noscript><\/figcaption><\/a><\/p>\n<p>        \u2063   \u2064  An AI cancer detection\u200c microscope by Google is seen during the World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2018 in Shanghai on Sep. 18, 2018. (STR\/AFP\/Getty Images)<br \/>\n    <\/figure>\n<p>Equity, \u2064which is distinct from equality, \u200chas been \u2062a consistent theme in the Biden administration&#8217;s approach to AI.<\/p>\n<p>In an executive order on &#8220;racial equity&#8221; earlier this year,\u2062 the president aimed to embed equity in all artificial intelligence and automated \u2063systems within the federal government.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2062 word &#8220;equity&#8221; appears a dozen\u2063 times in the administration&#8217;s latest national strategic\u200b plan on AI research and development (pdf).<\/p>\n<p>The previous plan released in 2019 under\u200b the Trump administration does\u2064 not mention the word once (pdf).<\/p>\n<h2>Independent Testing<\/h2>\n<p>In May, the Department of Education published a \u2062report on AI that extensively discussed equity and the potential for algorithmic bias in automated digital \u2064systems.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The department believes that biases in \u200bAI algorithms must \u2064be addressed when they\u2062 introduce or\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-says-ai-companies-have-promised-to-address-bias-and-discrimination\/\" title=\"White House: AI firms pledge to tackle 'bias and discrimination'\">perpetuate unjust discriminatory practices<\/a>\u200c in education,&#8221; the report\u2064 states, leaving open \u2064the question of whether some discriminatory practices in education are indeed just.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;AI systems and tools must align with our collective vision for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-administration-focuses-on-equity-in-new-artificial-intelligence-efforts\/\" title=\"Biden prioritizes equity in new AI efforts.\">high-quality learning<\/a>, \u2064including equity,&#8221; it adds.<\/p>\n<p>On June 20, the \u2062day after attending a Silicon\u200b Valley fundraiser \u200cfor his reelection campaign \u200dhosted by LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, President Biden \u200cmet with tech leaders in San Francisco to discuss AI &#8220;bias and prejudice.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2749753\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n        <a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2018\/12\/27\/reid-hoffman.jpg\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><\/noscript><\/figcaption><\/a><\/p>\n<p>        \u2064      LinkedIn Chairman Reid\u2063 Hoffman at the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco, Calif. on March 30, 2011.
