Richard Blumenthal (D-CT). &#8220;And anybody who disagrees with that proposition \u200bshould \u200cbe held accountable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>With the Supreme Court often being overlooked by \u2064voters in elections, Democrats want to put Republicans on the record regarding the ethics legislation. In the upcoming \u200b2024 Senate elections, Democrats will be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/senate-democrats-prepare-to-push-doomed-supreme-court-ethics-bill-to-spark-voter-interest\/\" title=\"Senate Democrats plan to introduce a Supreme Court ethics bill, despite its expected failure, in an effort to engage voters.\">defending multiple vulnerable seats<\/a>, while Republicans will be\u2063 on the offensive\u2064 in nearly every competitive race.<\/p>\n<p>Realistically, the legislation \u200cfaces an uphill battle \u2062as it\u2062 requires a\u2062 60-vote threshold \u2062to \u200ddefeat a filibuster. Nine Republicans would need to flip their stance in order to move the bill to the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, where it is unlikely to even be brought up for a vote.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;This bill is dead as fried chicken,&#8221; remarked Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ny-gov-cuomo-shunned-experts-embraced-lobbyists-drove-top-health-officials-to-quit-over-pandemic-response-report\/\" title=\"NY Gov. It doesn&#8217;t have 60 votes in the Senate. And it sure \u2064can&#8217;t pass the House. So\u200b why do it? Why beat the living crap out\u200c of the United \u2064States\u2062 Supreme Court? I just don&#8217;t get it. I \u2062understand politics, but I just don&#8217;t get\u200d it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The legislation,\u200b introduced by Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), aims \u2063to establish new requirements for financial disclosures and recusal\u2064 in cases where a justice\u200b may have a \u2062conflicting interest. It\u2062 was cleared \u200cby the\u200d Senate Judiciary Committee with a party-line vote of 11-10, with \u200cRepublicans \u2064opposing the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>This legislation comes in the wake \u200dof multiple reports on\u2064 alleged unethical behavior by Justices \u200dSamuel Alito, Sonia Sotomayor, and Clarence Thomas.
