Recent <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/latest-news\/biden-admin-says-devastating-fall-in-kids-test-scores-due-to-pandemic-is-no-surprise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/latest-news\/biden-admin-says-devastating-fall-in-kids-test-scores-due-to-pandemic-is-no-surprise\/&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1689961004684000&#038;usg=AOvVaw0eyYfKE_lwcGYO-qoMwfYi\">data<\/a> from the National Assessment of Educational Progress found test scores are at decade lows nationwide. Math scores for 13-year-olds fell to their lowest level since 1990, and \u200dreading scores\u2063 dropped to their lowest since 2004.<\/p>\n<p>The teachers&#8217; union came under scrutiny for its position on school closures\u200c during \u200cthe coronavirus pandemic,\u2063 and its work to make those policies a reality. A <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/AFT-CDC-Interference-Interim-Report-3-30-2022.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/AFT-CDC-Interference-Interim-Report-3-30-2022.pdf&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1689961004684000&#038;usg=AOvVaw0_ze3Nuaa6kdPVXGldIYf5\">report<\/a> released by House \u2063Republicans last year found the Centers \u200bfor Disease Control &#8220;allowed AFT to insert language into\u200c the Operational Guidance that made \u200cit\u2064 more\u2063 likely schools across \u2062the country would remain closed after February 2021.&#8221; AFT-affiliated unions\u2063 in \u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/cbsaustin.com\/union-rejects-chicago-public-schools-final-offer-on-reopening?photo=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/cbsaustin.com\/union-rejects-chicago-public-schools-final-offer-on-reopening?photo%3D1&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1689961004684000&#038;usg=AOvVaw3ThHHjwAS_McpToUF24d75\">Chicago<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsws.org\/en\/articles\/2020\/11\/03\/dcps-n03.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.wsws.org\/en\/articles\/2020\/11\/03\/dcps-n03.html&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1689961004684000&#038;usg=AOvVaw1wKSBTvnA_Ht-k8UteGsHc\">Washington, D.C.<\/a>, and other cities kept schools closed \u200duntil February 2021 \u200cand later.<\/p>\n<p>Weingarten\u2062 has \u2062since <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rweingarten\/status\/1409986984479760386?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/twitter.com\/rweingarten\/status\/1409986984479760386?s%3D20&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1689961004684000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2BKAUpbaPukwKrdorrSRPn\">claimed<\/a> AFT \u200b&#8221;tried to\u200c reopen schools safely since April 2020.&#8221; She defended the collaboration in House testimony earlier\u200d this year, <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Prepared-Statement-of-AFT-President-Randi-Weingarten.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Prepared-Statement-of-AFT-President-Randi-Weingarten.pdf&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1689961004684000&#038;usg=AOvVaw1NozMV0wuj6wam6GC_to-c\">saying<\/a> &#8220;any claim \u200bthat the contact the AFT \u2064had with the\u200b CDC\u200b was unusual or \u2063inappropriate &#8230; is simply wrong.&#8221; Attendees \u2062at this\u2062 weekend&#8217;s conference will be required to show proof of COVID \u200cvaccination \u2064and pass a <a title=\"Elon Musk: I Got A COVID Test Four Times In One Day. \u2018Two Came Back Negative, Two Came Back Positive.\u2019 | The Daily Wire\" href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/elon-musk-i-got-a-covid-test-four-times-in-one-day-two-came-back-negative-two-came-back-positive-the-daily-wire\/\">rapid antigen test<\/a> at the door. Any attendee who is vaccinated and boosted may\u2062 still be\u2062 prevented from attending these \u2064and all \u200cother sessions if they test positive\u200b for\u2064 COVID upon entrance.<\/p>\n<p>The AFT did not respond to a request \u2063for comment.<\/p>\n<p>At the conference, a\u200b session focused on &#8220;Affirming\u200d LGBTQIA+ Identities\u2064 in and out \u2064of the\u200c Classroom&#8221; will feature &#8220;Elementary Learning Behavior Specialist&#8221; Mari Garvonado, who works &#8220;towards <a title=\"\u2018Virtue Signaling Your Way To Woke Sainthood\u2019: Megyn Kelly Slams Bill Gates Over Education Agenda\" href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/virtue-signaling-your-way-to-woke-sainthood-megyn-kelly-slams-bill-gates-over-education-agenda\/\">dismantling white supremacy<\/a>,&#8221; according to her biography. The second speaker, Omar \u200bSalem, is &#8220;an \u2062educator committed to anti-racist, anti-biased, and pro-Black practices in and \u200bout of the\u2064 classroom,&#8221;\u200c according to his biography. The session is \u200clabeled grades &#8220;PK-12&#8221; and will &#8220;model an <a title=\"Loudoun Says Teachers Who Attack Parents Protected By Free Speech, Mulls Banning Trump Flags\" href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/loudoun-says-teachers-who-attack-parents-protected-by-free-speech-mulls-banning-trump-flags\/\">identity-affirming space<\/a> that centers on LGBTQIA+\u2063 voices&#8221;\u200c and \u200chelp teachers &#8220;gain actionable skills toward transforming school culture,&#8221; according to the \u2062session\u2019s\u200d description.<\/p>\n<p>The session\u2062 titled &#8220;Education for Liberation: The Role of the Racially Conscious Educator in Combating Oppression&#8221; will\u2064 explore &#8220;what it means to lead for racial equity in education&#8221; and\u200b how &#8220;innocuous complicity\u2062 in inequitable\u200b systems plays a role\u2064 in perpetuating inequities in schools.&#8221; \u2064Tracey Benson, &#8220;Racial Equity Workshop Facilitator and Coacher&#8221; and founder of the Anti-Racism \u2062Leadership \u2063Institute will lead\u200b the session. Private school enrollment \u2064rose 4 percent \u200cin the 2021-22 \u2064school year\u2063 as homeschool enrollment increased by 30 \u200cpercent,\u2064 according to\u200c the Urban\u200c Institute.
