Any independent person would\u2062 find this abhorrent.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Milione first worked in \u2062the DEA from 1997 to 2017 before he left government work for the private sector. He was paid $600 an hour by\u2063 Purdue Pharma \u2064to consult \u2062after they were \u200dsued by Ohio and Oklahoma over their marketing for the addictive painkiller OxyContin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Other \u200cwork in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dea-official-resigns-after-reports-on-former-big-pharma-consulting\/\" title=\"DEA Official Quits Over Ex-Big Pharma Consulting Reports\">pharmaceutical industry\u2062 included giving testimony<\/a> for drug wholesaler Morris &#038; Dickson, a company that faced scrutiny after a judge said \u2064it should lose its license \u200bto\u200d ship painkillers. The DEA did not move on that recommendation until four years later. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In May, DEA Administrator Anne Milgram <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2023\/05\/26\/1178372700\/dea-morris-dickson-drug-distributor-license-opioid-crisis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> the company failed to acknowledge \u201cfull extent of their wrongdoing \u2026 and the potential harm\u200d it caused.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According\u2063 to <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.house.gov\/meetings\/IF\/IF14\/20211202\/114265\/HHRG-117-IF14-Bio-MilioneL-20211202.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">his bio<\/a> from the DEA, Milione \u201cis a recognized expert on a broad range of issues, including transnational illicit networks, the\u200c diversion \u200cof pharmaceutical\u2062 controlled substances,\u200b narco-terrorism, America\u2019s opioid epidemic and the threat of synthetic \u2062drugs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The resignation was\u200b reportedly due to personal reasons and not recent \u2063reports. \u201cI care deeply about the DEA, its mission and the brave men and women that \u200bsacrifice\u200c so much to protect the American\u2062 public,\u201d Milione said in a statement. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He was first brought in through\u2063 a loophole that \u200bmeant that he would not have to be \u2064confirmed by the Senate. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) said the news only raised more\u200c questions about \u2062the \u200cadministration\u200d of \u200dthe DEA. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cDEA has \u200bdemonstrated a willingness to take painstaking measures to avoid the \u200dSenate\u2019s watchful eye \u2013 including by potentially using a technicality to shirk Senate confirmation of a key \u200bagency decision maker,\u201d Grassley said. \u201cAvoiding congressional\u200d oversight is a tired game the DEA can\u2019t stop playing.\u2063 It begs the question: What else is the DEA trying to hide?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) official, Louis Milione, has resigned from his position as principal deputy administrator following reports of his past consulting work for the pharmaceutical industry.
