PA Election Observer Drops BOMBSHELL - Says Special Agents from AG's Office Showed Up at Her Door to Question Her After She Testified (VIDEO)\">attorneys general<\/a><\/a> are scrambling \u200dto push back against \u200cclaims \u200dby\u200d some of their Republican counterparts that many \u200bcorporate workforce <span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">diversity<\/span> programs amount to illegal discrimination.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stopthebigboxbaitandswitch.com\/?utm_source=freebeacon&#038;utm_medium=advertising&#038;utm_campaign=2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stopthebigboxbaitandswitch.com\/?utm_source=freebeacon&#038;utm_medium=advertising&#038;utm_campaign=2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<h3>Democratic Officials Dismiss Republican Claims<\/h3>\n<p>In a \u2064call with reporters,\u2063 the \u200dattorneys general of New York, Illinois, Nevada,\u200c and four other \u2062states\u2062 said 13 Republican officials were wrong to suggest last week that a \u2063recent\u200b U.S. Supreme Court decision striking down affirmative action in higher education has any impact on employers&#8217; <span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">diversity<\/span> \u200b efforts.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican AGs, in letters sent to\u200b the CEOs of \u200bthe 100 largest U.S. companies, warned\u2062 that they \u200ccould take <span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">legal<\/span> action against \u2063businesses that set hiring \u2064quotas or\u200b treat job \u2064applicants differently because of their race.<\/p>\n<p>But on Wednesday, the Democratic officials said the vast majority of company \u200c <span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">diversity<\/span>, equity, and inclusion policies\u200b are designed to set aspirational \u2063goals or diversify pools \u2064of\u2064 job applicants.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is\u2064 no corporation I&#8217;m aware of\u200b that \u200dpromotes quotas or openly discriminates based \u2063on\u2063 a number,&#8221; New York attorney general\u2064 Letitia James said.<\/p>\n<p>James and the\u2063 other AGs said they wanted to make clear to \u2062companies that their states support <span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">diversity<\/span> efforts and will not take <span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">legal<\/span> action \u2062to \u200bdismantle them.<\/p>\n<p>Tennessee attorney general Jonathan Skrmetti, a Republican\u2064 who \u2064spearheaded \u2064last week&#8217;s letter, said in a statement that the reasoning\u2063 behind the recent Supreme Court decision makes clear that companies cannot factor race into employment\u2062 decisions even if they have\u200b good intentions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Corporate\u2063 America continues to\u200b have many\u2063 avenues\u200c to help disadvantaged people and communities of all \u2062races without\u200d resorting to crude racial line-drawing,&#8221; Skrmetti said.<\/p>\n<p>The Supreme Court ruling last month said Harvard \u2062University&#8217;s and the University\u200d of \u2062North Carolina&#8217;s race-conscious admissions policies violated the U.S. Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>The decision does not directly affect employers but is widely expected to spur <span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">legal<\/span> challenges \u2062to\u2063 corporate <span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">diversity<\/span> initiatives that take race\u2064 into account.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stopthebigboxbaitandswitch.com\/?utm_source=freebeacon&#038;utm_medium=advertising&#038;utm_campaign=2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stopthebigboxbaitandswitch.com\/?utm_source=freebeacon&#038;utm_medium=advertising&#038;utm_campaign=2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<h3>Democratic AGs Defend Corporate \u2063Diversity Initiatives<\/h3>\n<p>The Democratic AGs on Wednesday said the Supreme Court ruling has no bearing on employers&#8217; practices and that it was \u200dmisguided to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrat-ags-scramble-to-convince-companies-dei-is-still-legal\/\" title=\"Democrat AGs rush to assure companies DEI remains lawful.\">compare race-conscious school\u2063 admission policies<\/a>\u2062 to corporate \u2063 <span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">diversity<\/span> initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>(Reporting\u2062 by Daniel Wiessner in Albany, New York; Editing by Alexia Garamfalvi and \u2064Daniel Wallis)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>that diversity programs are illegal discrimination.
