She said she was &#8220;pretty certain&#8221; that \u2064two \u200dother officials on the task force\u2062 were aware that FBI analysts \u200dhad authenticated Biden\u2019s \u200claptop in \u2062late 2019.<\/p>\n<p>But according to Republicans, task force officials refused to share \u200dthat information during meetings with Facebook, which \u200dlimited circulation of the <em>Post<\/em> story \u2063out of concerns that Biden\u2019s emails \u2063were hacked. Republicans say\u200d FBI leaders directed Dehmlow and others \u200dto\u200d tell social media companies &#8220;no comment&#8221; when asked about the laptop. According to Dehmlow, an FBI employee \u200ctold Twitter in an\u2063 earlier\u2064 meeting that Biden\u2019s \u2064laptop \u200bwas real but that an \u2063FBI attorney \u2062interjected to say\u200c &#8220;no further comment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The refusal \u2062of \u200bFBI officials\u2014the very officials who knew the laptop\u200c was real\u2014to verify \u200cthe authenticity of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fbi-told-twitter-hunter-biden-laptop-was-real-when-new-york-post-story-broke-then-hid-behind-big-tech-censors-disinfo-smear\/\" title=\"FBI confirmed Hunter Biden laptop's authenticity during New York Post story, but later relied on tech censorship to dismiss it as 'disinfo'.\">laptop allowed widespread censorship<\/a> about \u2062an\u200b otherwise accurate news story,&#8221; said House Judiciary chairman Jim Jordan (R., Ohio)\u200b in a <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/2023-07-20-jdj-to-wray-re-dehmlow-testimony.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">letter<\/a> to FBI director\u2063 Christopher Wray.<\/p>\n<p>While Facebook limited the\u2063 sharing of the <em>Post<\/em> \u2063 story, Twitter\u200d prevented\u200c users from \u200bsharing\u200c it at all. That\u200b prompted debate over whether Biden\u2019s \u200dlaptop was authentic or whether hackers had \u200dhacked the computer\u2014or manipulated its emails\u2014and leaked \u200bthe contents as part of an &#8220;October surprise.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Joe Biden \u2062campaign and its allies pushed that unsubstantiated theory \u2063days after the <em>Post<\/em> report. Former\u200c CIA deputy director\u2062 Michael Morell recruited 50 former intelligence officials to sign a letter that said the\u200c laptop was\u200c likely a Russian disinformation campaign. \u2063Morell drafted the letter \u2062after a conversation with\u200c Biden campaign adviser Antony Blinken, who\u200c now serves as\u200b Secretary \u200cof State. Joe Biden cited that assessment during a\u200d debate with former\u2062 president\u200b Donald Trump on\u2062 Oct. 22, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>IRS\u200b whistleblower Gary Shapley, who \u200bled a tax \u200cfraud investigation \u200binto Hunter\u200b Biden, testified in May \u200dthat FBI analysts authenticated\u2062 Biden\u2019s laptop in\u2064 December 2019. Mac Isaac said Hunter Biden \u2064left \u2063the laptop for repairs in \u200bApril 2019 but never retrieved it.
