It&#8217;s a narrative that the <em>Times<\/em> and\u200b other media outlets have been pushing for years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stopthebigboxbaitandswitch.com\/?utm_source=freebeacon&#038;utm_medium=advertising&#038;utm_campaign=2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stopthebigboxbaitandswitch.com\/?utm_source=freebeacon&#038;utm_medium=advertising&#038;utm_campaign=2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>There&#8217;s just one problem: President Joe Biden\u2019s actual words.<\/p>\n<p>Biden&#8217;s reputation as a\u200d defender of\u2063 the conservative-majority Supreme Court dates back to\u2064 his &#8220;return to normalcy&#8221; presidential campaign in 2020 when he \u200bdefied angry progressives by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=X--FocG9ziM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stopping \u200cshort<\/a> of promising to &#8220;pack&#8221; the bench. Never mind that Biden \u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/biden-pressure-court-packing-convene-commission-reform\/story?id=73760039\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called<\/a> the Court &#8220;out of\u2063 whack&#8221; and suggested he would consider \u2063&#8221;a number\u2063 of alternatives\u2063 that &#8230; go well beyond\u2062 packing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Surprise! Joe Biden is a Moderate Institutionalist!&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2020\/11\/17\/politics\/joe-biden-cabinet-staff-hires-moderates\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blared CNN<\/a> following \u2063Biden&#8217;s election.<\/p>\n<p>The mainstream media have\u2062 stubbornly stuck with its institutionalist Joe caricature even as President Biden \u200dhas \u200crepeatedly railed against the Supreme Court\u200c in\u2063 highly partisan\u200b terms. Coverage has often \u2063downplayed\u2014or tried to explain away\u2014Biden\u2019s attacks \u200bon the judges as &#8220;extreme,&#8221; \u2064&#8221;out of control,&#8221; and an ally of\u2063 Republican extremists bent on taking away &#8220;our \u200dfreedoms.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Typical of the trend\u2063 was \u200da CBS News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/biden-supreme-court-affirmative-action-decision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> \u2063last month on \u200cBiden&#8217;s response to the Court restricting race-based <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/medical-professor-warned-colleagues-that-schools-racial-preferences-were-illegal-and-he-was-removed-from-directorship-now-hes-suing\/\" title=\"Medical Professor Warned Colleagues That School\u2019s Racial Preferences Were Illegal And He Was Removed From Directorship. Now He\u2019s Suing.\">affirmative action<\/a> in university admissions: &#8220;Biden Says Supreme Court&#8217;s \u200bAffirmative Action Decision Can&#8217;t Be &#8216;The\u200b Last Word'&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>President Biden on Thursday expressed his disappointment\u2062 with the Supreme Court&#8217;s \u2063ruling\u2064 against affirmative action in college admissions, insisting\u200b the country &#8220;cannot let \u200dthis \u200ddecision be the \u2062last word.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;While the court can render \u2064a\u200b decision, it \u2063cannot change what America stands for,&#8221; \u200bhe said from the White House.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Only \u2062in the final line\u2063 did CBS News note how Biden had launched a daylong assault on the Supreme Court \u2062itself by\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2023\/06\/29\/remarks-by-president-biden-on-the-supreme-courts-decision-on-affirmative-action\/#:~:text=The%20Court%20has%20effectively%20ended,has%20not%20been%2C%20until%20today.\">declaring<\/a>, &#8220;This is not\u200c a normal Court.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In June 2022, after the Supreme Court overturned federal abortion rights, the \u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/06\/30\/biden-sharply-ramps-up-his-response-destabilizing-abortion-ruling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Washington\u200b Post<\/em><\/a>  \u2064similarly characterized Biden as simply focused on the decision. &#8220;Biden Sharply Ramps Up His Response to \u2018Destabilizing\u2019 Abortion Ruling,&#8221;\u2063 was the \u200d <em>Post<\/em>\u2019s headline.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2062 report \u200bmade no mention\u200b of Biden&#8217;s broader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2022\/06\/24\/remarks-by-president-biden-on-the-supreme-court-decision-to-overturn-roe-v-wade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">denunciations<\/a>: &#8220;Make no mistake: This decision \u2064is the culmination of a deliberate effort over decades to upset the balance of our law. It&#8217;s a realization of an extreme ideology and a tragic error by\u2062 the\u200b Supreme Court,\u2063 in my view.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With this decision, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hollywood-celebs-rage-in-defeat-after-barrett-confirmation-revolting-disgraceful-unconscionable\/\" title=\"Hollywood Celebs Rage in Defeat After Barrett Confirmation: 'Revolting. Disgraceful. Unconscionable'\">conservative majority<\/a> of the \u2063Supreme Court shows how extreme it is, how far removed \u2063they are from the majority of this country,&#8221; Biden added. &#8220;They \u2064have\u200c made \u200bthe United States an outlier among\u200d developed nations \u200bin the world. But this decision must not be the final word.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A few days later, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/07\/08\/us\/politics\/biden-abortion-executive-order.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Times<\/em><\/a>  ran the bland headline, &#8220;Under Pressure, Biden Issues Executive Order\u2062 on Abortion.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Biden had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2022\/07\/08\/remarks-by-president-biden-on-protecting-access-to-reproductive-health-care-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">suggested<\/a> the Supreme Court was part of a right-wing authoritarian plot: &#8220;So, \u2062what\u200d we&#8217;re witnessing wasn&#8217;t a constitutional judgment. It was an exercise in \u2063raw \u200bpolitical power. &#8230; We cannot allow an out of control Supreme Court, working in conjunction with extremist elements of the Republican Party, to take away freedoms and our personal autonomy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When Biden \u200cagain took direct aim at the\u2064 Supreme Court ahead of last year&#8217;s midterm elections, there was no new ruling to cover for the\u2063 broadside. As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/10\/12\/biden-supreme-court-abortion-rights\/\">reported<\/a> \u200cby the <em>Post<\/em>: &#8220;Biden says Supreme Court \u2018more of an \u2063advocacy group\u2019\u2062 than \u2018evenhanded\u2019&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><i>President \u200cBiden is stepping\u200d up his criticism of the Supreme Court, calling it &#8220;more of an\u200c advocacy group&#8221; than &#8220;evenhanded&#8221; after the \u2063court struck down the \u2062constitutional right\u200b to an abortion.<\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Still, the\u2062 <em>Post<\/em> \u200d noted \u2064the White House&#8217;s claims that\u200b Biden draws \u2062a respectful\u200d distinction between the Court \u200band its decisions.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>Speaking Wednesday to reporters\u2064 traveling with Biden on Air Force One, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Biden maintains his respect for the &#8220;institution of the\u2064 court&#8221; but will not be \u2064silent\u2064 when he disagrees with \u2062its\u200d rulings, including \u2062on abortion.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Biden had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2022\/10\/11\/remarks-by-president-biden-in-a-virtual-reception-for-representative-lisa-blunt-rochester\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">characterized<\/a> \u200c the \u200bCourt as an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/these-are-not-examples-of-biden-politicizing-the-supreme-court-according-to-the-media\/\" title=\"Media: These examples do not show Biden politicizing the Supreme Court.\">anti-democratic \u2062political actor<\/a>: &#8220;The\u2063 American people are, for\u200d the first time in God knows how long, worried about \u2064whether we can keep our democracy. <em>\u2026<\/em> I view this\u2014this off-year election \u2063as\u2062 one \u200cof the most important elections that I&#8217;ve been engaged in,\u2062 because a lot can change, because the institutions \u2062have changed. The\u2064 Supreme Court is more of\u2062 an advocacy group these days \u200bthan it is \u2026 evenhanded.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Of\u200c course,\u200d the media have not always stuck to the &#8220;Joe Biden is a Moderate Institutionalist!&#8221; script. <em>Times<\/em> White House correspondent Michael Shear initially \u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/06\/29\/us\/politics\/biden-supreme-court-affirmative-action.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">described<\/a> the president calling the Supreme Court not \u2062&#8221;normal&#8221; \u200bas &#8220;an extraordinarily critical assessment of another branch of\u200c government shortly after \u2064the court\u2019s conservative\u2063 majority\u2063 ended nearly a\u2062 half-century\u200c of affirmative action in college admissions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But last week, Shear decided that Biden has actually never attacked\u200b the Supreme Court. Under the headline\u2064 &#8220;Biden Criticizes Supreme Court Rulings,\u2063 but\u2063 Not the Court,&#8221;\u200c Shear\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/07\/13\/us\/politics\/biden-supreme-court-rulings-court-packing.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">argued<\/a>: &#8220;Mr. Biden has resisted a full-throated attack on the Supreme Court itself or the individual justices. He has denounced the \u200dCourt&#8217;s individual decisions, but \u200chas said he does not want to politicize the third branch of American democracy and risk undermining its authority forever.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stopthebigboxbaitandswitch.com\/?utm_source=freebeacon&#038;utm_medium=advertising&#038;utm_campaign=2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stopthebigboxbaitandswitch.com\/?utm_source=freebeacon&#038;utm_medium=advertising&#038;utm_campaign=2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Shortly after Biden condemned the Court as abnormal, Shear explained, he\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=CmekpMxhFmg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">went on MSNBC<\/a> \u200cand &#8220;made it very \u2063clear what he \u200cmeant\u2014and \u200bwhat \u2064he didn\u2019t. He did\u200b not want\u200c to overly politicize the Court. \u200b&#8230; He was just focused on \u200cdecisions by the justices that he disagrees with, like\u200d their far-reaching rejection\u200c of abortion rights.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Shear concluded with a Biden quotation\u2063 from the MSNBC interview, as though it proved the president\u2019s reverence \u200bfor the Supreme Court: &#8220;What I meant by that is [the Court&#8217;s] \u200b done more to unravel basic \u200drights and basic decisions than any Court in \u2062recent history.
