At the\u200b same \u2062time,\u2063 DeSantis\u200b faces a \u2062three<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/meet-the-self-interested-trio-behind-the-anti-desantis-attacks\/\" title=\"Introducing the Self-Interested Trio Fueling Anti-DeSantis Attacks\">-pronged axis working<\/a> to convince \u2062Republican voters that his \u200bnascent presidential campaign \u200bcan\u2019t\u2063 possibly \u2064succeed.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> \u200d  \u200b <\/p>\n<p>The\u2063 first\u2062 prong consists \u200bof\u2064 legacy media. \u200bNaturally, they want \u200cnothing to do with \u2063a \u200dcompetent, conservative\u200d candidate. \u200cThe\u2063 second \u200cis \u2063the Trump \u200ccampaign; DeSantis is the \u200bman Trump \u200cmust beat \u2064to \u2062win the GOP \u2063nomination. The\u200b third is establishment Republicans, who are so caught up in the \u200bidea of \u2064getting one of their \u200bown\u2062 back in power\u2063 that they \u2064forget they will\u200c have to \u2064choose\u2063 between Trump \u2064and\u2064 DeSantis.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long \u200bd-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left:\u200b auto;\u200b margin-right:\u200c auto; text-align: center; \" \u2064id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1008038509\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div \u200bclass=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1d983093b947f70c010dd38c8cc4e7ca fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\"\u200c id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1d983093b947f70c010dd38c8cc4e7ca\"><\/div>\n<p>\u2062 \u2063  \u200c <\/p>\n<p>Each of these\u2063 distracts both\u200c from the fact that\u2062 the \u200dGOP\u200c election cycle will ultimately come \u200cdown\u2063 to Trump \u2064and DeSantis and \u200dfrom the reality \u200cthat it\u2019s time for \u2063a\u200d battle\u2064 of political\u2062 heavyweights \u200din the Republican \u200bring.<\/p>\n<p> \u200c   <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Media Need Trump As Their Scapegoat<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u2063  \u2062  <\/p>\n<p>The corporate\u200b media \u200boppose DeSantis for two\u200d reasons.\u2064 First, he\u2019s a conservative \u200dwho\u2064 defies\u2063 their\u2063 narrative \u200con essentially everything: \u2064<a href=\"https:\/\/claremontreviewofbooks.com\/the-masking-of-america\/\" \u2063target=\"_blank\"\u200b rel=\"noreferrer \u200dnoopener\">masks<\/a>,\u2064 <a\u2063 href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/09\/29\/citing-new-scientific-evidence-florida-gov-ron-desantis-ends-his-states-lockdown\/\">lockdowns<\/a>, <a \u2062href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovRonDeSantis\/status\/1552323087676461060?lang=en\">indoctrinating<\/a>\u2064 children with\u2064 LGBT propaganda, the \u2062need for <a \u200chref=\"https:\/\/www.flgov.com\/2023\/05\/25\/governor-ron-desantis-highlights-largest-tax-relief-plan-in-floridas-history\/\">fiscal<\/a> restraint, \u200cthe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2024-election\/desantis-says-eliminate-four-federal-agencies-elected-president-rcna91733\">proper role<\/a> \u2064of government, the \u2063merits\u2064 of\u200d our<a \u200chref=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovRonDeSantis\/status\/1572314687542288386\"> founding<\/a>, the goodness \u200bof America,\u2062 and so on.<\/p>\n<p>  \u200b \u2063 <\/p>\n<p>Second, they suspect he can \u200cwin. \u200dJoe \u2063Biden\u2019s presidency \u2062has\u2063 been\u200c a disaster\u200c in\u2063 a\u2064 wide range of ways: high inflation, <a \u2064href=\"https:\/\/www.city-journal.org\/article\/denying-reality-on-immigration\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-approval-rating-plummets-in-blue-states\/\" title=\"Biden\u2019s Approval Rating Plummets in Blue States\">rampant illegal immigration<\/a><\/a>,\u200b onerous \u200bgovernment\u200c mandates, \u200c<a \u200dhref=\"https:\/\/www.city-journal.org\/article\/fit-for-a-king\">repeated violations \u200bof \u2064the\u2064 separation\u200b of powers<\/a>, \u200dincompetent\u2064 foreign\u200c policy, \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanmainstreet.org\/debt\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/let-them-eat-cake-the-most-condescending-things-the-left-says-about-inflation\/\" title=\"\u2018Let Them Eat Cake\u2019: The Most Condescending Things The Left Says About Inflation\">massive deficit spending<\/a><\/a>, \u2062loss of \u2064<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/22\/irs-whistleblower-docs-show-doj-obstructed-investigation-into-his-son-to-protect-joe-biden\/\">integrity<\/a> and credibility\u2063 at the\u2063 Justice Department, and \u200dmore. And while Biden \u200bisn\u2019t getting any younger (or smarter), \u200dhe also shows no \u200dsigns \u2062of willingly\u2063 leaving the stage.<\/p>\n<p> \u2063\u2063  \u200d \u200b<\/p>\n<p>The legacy media\u2019s hope that \u200dhe can \u2064win \u200dreelection \u2062as \u2063an 81-year-old \u2062curmudgeon with a \u200cpoor\u200d record\u2064 on policy, therefore,\u200c hinges mostly on\u2063 Trump\u2019s unpopularity with independents and affluent suburban Republicans.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<div\u2062 class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1b88ec7a1c4cde43cca546b91b0fec80 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\"\u2063 id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1b88ec7a1c4cde43cca546b91b0fec80\"><\/div>\n<p>\u2062    <\/p>\n<p>Moreover, if \u2064the Hunter Biden\u2064 scandal continues \u2062to expand in size and \u200cscope, the legacy \u2064media know their \u2062<a \u2062href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/09\/latest-trump-indictment-proves-deep-state-is-trying-to-rig-yet-another-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">best rebuttal<\/a> \u2063will \u2062be\u200b to highlight Trump\u2019s \u200cown scandals and indictments. \u200dThey \u2062suspect,\u2063 perhaps rightly, that most swing \u2062voters will have a \u200chard time distinguishing between \u2062these.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>   \u2063 <h2\u200b class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>DeSantis \u200bIs Trump\u2019s Main Opponent<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>   \u200b <\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s camp is aware of\u2063 this \u2063vulnerability, so \u2062they\u2064 are\u2063 going hard after\u200d DeSantis\u2064 and\u200c trying \u200cto knock \u2064him out\u200c before this \u2063could become\u200b a one-on-one \u2064race. \u200dAt that point, \u2062concerns about\u2064 electability \u2063would likely become\u200b quite \u2063prominent in Republican \u200cvoters\u2019 minds \u2062\u2014 especially if \u200bthe\u200d weight of the Biden family\u2064 business scandal or\u200b a clear downturn in\u2063 the \u200dcurrent president\u2019s health were to\u2062 open the door for\u2062 Biden \u200bto\u200d be replaced\u2062 by Gavin Newsom, the California \u2062authoritarian who is\u2063 25 years younger\u2062 than \u200bBiden (and\u2064 22 \u2064years \u200dyounger than Trump).<\/p>\n<p>\u2063  \u200c\u2064 \u2063 <\/p>\n<p>The sheer amount of firepower\u200d Trump has\u2063 devoted to\u2062 DeSantis,\u200b while largely\u2064 ignoring \u2063the\u200d rest\u2063 of\u200d the \u2063burgeoning\u2062 Republican\u2062 field, shows the former \u2064president continues to have\u200b good political instincts. He \u2063knows the \u2063\u201creal \u2062deals\u201d from \u200cthe \u2063easily-beatable pretenders.<\/p>\n<p>    \u2063<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis \u2063has also arguably\u2063 taken \u2062stronger positions or actions than\u200d Trump\u2063 on a variety \u2063of\u200d issues \u2062that matter\u2064 to\u2062 conservative voters. These include Covid lockdowns, \u200c<a\u2062 href=\"https:\/\/www.theamericanconservative.com\/americans-flee-mask-mandates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mask mandates<\/a>, \u200bvaccine\u2064 mandates, fiscal \u2062responsibility,\u2062 LGBT extremism,\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/desantis-goes-big-on-abortion\" target=\"_blank\" \u2064rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">abortion<\/a>,\u200d Obamacare, and\u200d dealing \u200bwith \u200can out-of-control FBI. Trump \u2063knows this,\u200d so\u2063 instead\u200d of \u2062debating DeSantis on these\u2063 issues, he\u200b has\u2063 <a\u200c href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/trump-is-attacking-desantis-hard-policy-amid-flurry-insults-2023-05-17\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">run \u2063to the \u200dleft<\/a> of \u2062the Florida governor on so-called \u201centitlement\u201d spending.<\/p>\n<div \u200bclass=\"fdrlst__b89e9-8fc7d9cd4c9c04d715f228a3d43cedb7 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" \u200cid=\"fdrlst__b89e9-8fc7d9cd4c9c04d715f228a3d43cedb7\"><\/div>\n<p>\u200d \u200b  \u200b <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Old-School Republicans Stand\u2064 in the \u2063Way<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>   \u2063 <\/p>\n<p>Establishment Republicans \u2064share the Trump\u200c campaign\u2019s \u200ddesire to see Nikki\u2062 Haley or\u2062 Tim Scott \u2014 or \u2063even Mike Pence \u2014 take on Trump,\u2063 rather \u200dthan\u200b having to choose\u2062 between the \u200dtwo most combative candidates. The\u2062 party\u2019s establishment has \u200dnever really come \u2063to \u200cgrips with\u200d the \u200dbeating it\u2064 took\u200d in 2016,\u200c when Trump, \u2064Ted Cruz, and Ben \u200cCarson\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/uselectionatlas.org\/RESULTS\/national.php?f=0&#038;year=2016&#038;elect=2\" target=\"_blank\"\u200c rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">won<\/a>\u2062 72.5\u2064 percent of the Republican primary vote.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> \u2063 \u2062 \u200c <\/p>\n<p>In\u2062 2016,\u200d establishment\u200b Republicans \u2063could have \u200bthrown their weight \u2063behind\u2064 Cruz\u200d in the late \u2063stages of\u2062 the\u2063 contest\u200d when \u200cit\u200b was clearly a two-horse race. Instead, \u200cthey \u200cpretended \u200bJohn\u200b Kasich \u2014 who had <a\u200b href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/weekly-standard\/the-kasich-collapse\" target=\"_blank\" \u2064rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gone<\/a> \u20621-33\u2064 (winning only his \u2063home \u2062state) in\u200d the \u200bfirst\u2064 34 contests and did not \u200ceven come \u200dwithin 10 \u2063points\u2064 of\u2063 winning in \u206332 of those contests \u2014 \u2064was a real candidate.\u2064 This was an odd calculation\u2062 on the part of \u2062anti-Trump Republicans.<\/p>\n<p> \u2063  \u200d\u200b <\/p>\n<p>They \u2064are\u200d at\u200c it again now. Despite being vehemently \u200b<a \u2063href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/vW7Hm\" \u200ctarget=\"_blank\" \u200crel=\"noreferrer\u200c noopener\">anti-Trump<\/a>, The Wall\u200c Street Journal\u2019s Peggy Noonan is \u200cbusy singing the\u200d praises of\u2063 Chris Christie while \u2063also \u2062floating the idea\u200b of \u200ba third-party \u200ccandidate \u2014 anything \u200cto \u200cavoid\u2062 having\u200d to\u200d stomach DeSantis and\u200c his impolite determination\u2062 to\u2062 fight the left\u2019s cultural onslaught.<\/p>\n<p>Many of Noonan\u2019s Upper \u2064East Side friends \u2063are pretending that <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/zaig9\" target=\"_blank\"\u2062 rel=\"noreferrer \u200dnoopener\">Haley\u2063 or\u200b Scott<\/a> \u2014 or \u2062maybe a \u200dlate-entering <a \u2062href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/Td8uY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Glenn Youngkin<\/a>\u2062 \u2014 \u2062could\u2064 emerge as Trump\u2019s\u200d principal challenger. In the case \u200cof Haley and Scott,\u2062 this ignores that the \u200bnow Main Street-oriented GOP\u200b is fed \u200cup with\u200b the outdated Republican \u200destablishment \u2014 Haley\u200c has \u200dsaid and done little\u200c to \u200dinspire confidence that \u2063she\u2019d be anything other\u200c than a\u200c generic Republican\u2062 of\u200c old, \u2062while \u2062Scott\u2019s most \u200cobvious \u200dpolitical \u200daccomplishment\u200d is\u2064 winning\u200d a couple \u2064of Senate \u200braces.<\/p>\n<p>  \u2064  <\/p>\n<p>Despite having held \u200belective office\u200b for\u200b just 18 months, Youngkin would \u2064be a\u200b more formidable \u200bthreat\u2063 than either member of the\u200c South \u200bCarolina duo.\u200d But\u200d he \u2063isn\u2019t likely \u2063to gain traction unless \u200bDeSantis first gets\u200d pushed out\u200b of the field, and\u2064 the legacy media\u2019s \u200befforts to\u200b bury DeSantis make \u200dclear that they fear him more than\u2063 the \u200cpossibility \u200bof \u2063Youngkin.<\/p>\n<p> \u2062 \u200d \u2063 <\/p>\n<p>So,\u200c DeSantis faces a trio \u2062of self-interested forces, all \u200bof \u200bwhich see\u200b him as \u2062a\u2062 hindrance to \u2064their\u200b respective\u200d goals \u2014 the legacy \u2062media\u2019s\u2063 goal \u200cto secure the\u200b reelection of a leftist\u200c administration, \u200bTrump\u2019s goal\u2063 of \u200creelection,\u2062 and the\u2062 Republican establishment\u2019s \u2063goal to ensure the \u2063election of a squish.<\/p>\n<p>  \u200d \u2063 <\/p>\n<p>Given \u2064these motivations, criticisms of the\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/amgreatness.com\/2022\/11\/08\/desantis-is-the-nights-big-winner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">popular<\/a> Florida governor \u200bshould be\u2062 taken with more \u200dthan a grain of salt.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>  \u2064  <\/p>\n<p>The sooner this \u200brace \u2063features \u2063just Trump \u2062and\u200d DeSantis on the \u2063stage\u200b together, \u200cthe better \u200b\u2014\u2062 for \u200dboth\u2062 the \u2062GOP and\u200d the \u2063country.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> \u2064<\/p>\n<div \u200cclass=\"fdrlst__b89e9-6437a4e2b4463482ebb6e1d23ce9f1e6 fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-6437a4e2b4463482ebb6e1d23ce9f1e6\"><\/div>\n<p> \t\t\t\t\t\u2063 <\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"> \u2062   \u200c\t\t\t\t\t   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>is a threat. The attacks on DeSantis indicate that he is a formidable contender in politics, with the potential to defeat Biden and bring conservative leadership to the presidency.
