Finds<\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A \u2062new study published\u2063 Wednesday shows that espresso \u2064could help prevent Alzheimer\u2019s disease.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span\u2063 style=\"font-weight: \u2063400\">Researchers\u2062 at the\u200d University of \u200cVerona in Italy found that compounds\u2064 in espresso beverages, \u2064including caffeine, could slow\u2064 or prevent\u2064 the brain disorder.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The \u200bresearchers \u2063<\/span><a\u2063 href=\"https:\/\/pubs.acs.org\/doi\/full\/10.1021\/acs.jafc.3c01072\"><span style=\"font-weight: \u200b400\">concluded<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, \u201cWe have presented\u2063 a large\u200b body\u200c of\u200d evidence that espresso coffee, \u200ca widely consumed beverage, \u200dis a source \u2064of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/coffee-could-save-you-from-alzheimers-disease-study-says\/\" title=\"Study suggests coffee may prevent Alzheimer's disease.\">natural\u200d compounds showing beneficial properties<\/a> \u2062in ameliorating \u2026 pathologies,\u201d such as Alzheimer\u2019s disease.<\/span><\/p>\n<p> \u200b<\/p>\n<p><span \u2064style=\"font-weight: 400\">The researchers\u200b <\/span><a \u2064href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/07\/19\/espresso-might-prevent-alzheimers-development-new-study\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">said<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> that \u201cnumerous studies\u201d showing that \u201ccoffee consumption\u200d exerts \u200ba [protective] action against two \u200bof the most common neurodegenerative \u2062diseases, \u200di.e., Parkinson\u2032s \u2062and Alzheimer\u2032s,\u201d prompted them to perform the study on espresso \u2064because of its\u200d high concentration of coffee molecules.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:\u200d 400\">While experts \u2063are \u200bstill uncovering the \u200bprocesses that cause the diseases to\u200d develop, most researchers have\u2064 pointed \u200dto a\u2064 protein in\u2062 the \u2062brain called tau, which helps \u200dstabilize\u2062 structures\u200b in\u2063 that area of \u2064the human body.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p> \u2062<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">However,\u200d when\u2062 tau clumps in the brain, \u2062it interrupts the communication between nerves, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watch-police-dashcam-footage-shows-michigan-lawmaker-threatening-officers-during-alleged-drunk-driving-incident\/\" title=\"WATCH: Police Dashcam Footage Shows Michigan Lawmaker Threatening Officers During Alleged Drunk-Driving Incident\">causing memory loss<\/a>,\u200b poor judgment, \u200bwandering,\u2063 and personality \u200bchanges \u2014 all symptoms of Alzheimer\u2019s disease.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The \u2063study used in-vitro and \u200dcell culture tests and\u2062 found that four compounds found in \u200despresso \u2014 caffeine, \u200btrigonelline, genistein,\u2064 and theobromine\u200c \u2014 reduced \u200cthe length of the tau\u2064 fibers, preventing them from clumping.\u200b As\u200c the\u2063 concentration of \u200dcaffeine\u200d increased, tau \u2064proteins \u200dcould not\u200b form \u200dlarger sheets, indicating \u200dthat the progress toward\u2062 Alzheimer\u2019s\u200d might be slowed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p> \u2064<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Although\u200c more \u200dresearch is needed, the researchers said their preliminary\u2062 findings would \u201cpave \u2062the way toward finding or\u200b designing other bioactive compounds \u200dagainst \u2026 Alzheimer\u2019s,\u201d according to a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurekalert.org\/news-releases\/995534?\"><span \u2063style=\"font-weight: \u200c400\">press \u200brelease<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2063 <\/p>\n<p><span \u200cstyle=\"font-weight: 400\">6.2 million Americans <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aplaceformom.com\/caregiver-resources\/articles\/alzheimers-deaths#\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">have<\/span><\/a><span \u2063style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Alzheimer\u2019s disease, and the disorder is the\u200c fifth \u2064leading\u2064 cause \u2062of death\u2064 among \u200cthe\u2062 elderly, claiming\u200b 134,242 American lives \u2064in 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2062 <\/p>\n<p><span \u200cstyle=\"font-weight:\u2064 400\">The study was funded by the Italian Ministry of University \u200dand \u200bResearch and follows\u200b several \u200dstudies \u2062aimed \u200bat linking coffee consumption with reduced risk of\u200d Alzheimer\u2019s and\u200c Parkinson\u2019s \u2063diseases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span \u2064style=\"font-weight: \u200c400\">A \u20632018 study by Canadian\u200d researchers \u2062<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation-now\/2018\/11\/07\/dark-roast-coffee-may-reduce-risk-alzheimers-parkinsons-diseases\/1917413002\/\">showed<\/a> that\u200d dark \u2062roast\u200b coffee is also beneficial for brain \u2063health \u200dand could work to prevent both Alzheimer\u2019s and \u2063Parkinson\u2019s.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u2064 <\/p>\n<p><span\u2062 style=\"font-weight: 400\">However, Howard \u200bBauchner, editor-in-chief\u200b of the JAMA\u2062 peer-reviewed medical magazine, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation-now\/2018\/11\/07\/dark-roast-coffee-may-reduce-risk-alzheimers-parkinsons-diseases\/1917413002\/\"><span \u200cstyle=\"font-weight:\u200c 400\">told<\/span><\/a><span \u2063style=\"font-weight: \u2062400\"> USA Today\u2063 at\u2062 the time \u2062that coffee \u200bstudies \u200bshould be \u201ctaken with a \u2064sip \u200dof skepticism.\u201d He \u2063said that most coffee \u2062studies\u200d are\u200b association studies, meaning \u2062they\u200b don\u2019t necessarily prove that coffee is\u200c
