In \u200cthe\u2062 letter, \u200bJones\u2063 instructed\u200d the agent to &#8220;refer such questions to\u200c the\u2063 FBI\u2019s \u2063Office of Congressional Affairs&#8221; instead of answering \u2063them, in\u200c order to protect the Executive\u200c Branch&#8217;s\u2062 &#8220;confidentiality \u2064interests.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>  \u2063  \u2062<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201c[T]he Department\u200c expects that you will decline to\u2064 respond to\u2063 questions seeking \u200dnon-public \u200dinformation likely covered\u200c by one or more components\u200b of\u2063 executive privilege\u2064 or other significant\u2063 confidentiality\u2063 interests,\u201d\u200b Jones \u200dwrote. \u201cIn\u2062 particular\u200d information\u200c about\u2062 deliberations or\u200c ongoing\u200b investigative\u2062 activity in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bombshell-letter-fbi-warned-hunter-biden-investigator-to-decline-to-respond-to-house-oversight-committee-question\/\" title=\"FBI advised Hunter Biden investigator to not answer House Oversight Committee query.\">law enforcement \u2063matters<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u200d  \u200d\u2064  \u2062<\/p>\n<p>Jones emphasized that the\u2064 agent \u2064should\u2062 redirect \u200cthe questions\u200b to \u2063the \u2063FBI&#8217;s Office \u200cof \u2062Congressional Affairs, allowing the\u200d agency\u2064 to consider the questions\u2062 beforehand and protect the Executive\u2062 Branch&#8217;s confidentiality \u200cinterests.<\/p>\n<p>\u200c   \u2063 <\/p>\n<blockquote \u2064class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p> \u2063<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u200b should \u200dinstead refer such \u200cquestions to \u200cthe \u2062FBI\u2019s Office\u200b of Congressional\u200b Affairs. \u2063Consistent with \u2064longstanding practice,\u201d the\u2064 letter stated. \u201cThis will afford the Department\u200c the\u200d full \u2064opportunity to consider \u2063particular \u200cquestions and possible accommodations \u200cthat may \u200dfulfill the Committee\u2019s \u2064legitimate need \u200dfor information while protecting Executive \u200dBranch confidentiality\u200b interests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2064 <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The letter referred\u2062 to \u200bthe\u2062 case as\u200d &#8220;ongoing,&#8221;\u200b raising concerns \u2062among \u2064congressional Republicans that it is an\u2062 attempt to\u2062 hinder their \u200ddemands\u200c for records and \u200dtestimony.\u200c Hunter Biden&#8217;s team \u200dhas claimed that their client&#8217;s legal\u200d exposure ended with\u200c a plea deal \u200cmade in June \u2064on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fbi-told-hunter-investigator-to-deny-responding-to-committee-questions\/\" title=\"FBI instructed Hunter investigator to deny answering committee queries.\">misdemeanor tax\u2064 fraud \u200ccharges<\/a> and\u200d a \u2064felony gun\u200d possession charge, which \u2064is \u2062expected to be expunged \u200cafter\u2062 probation.<\/p>\n<p>The letter\u200d also emphasized that\u200d department officials, including former\u200b officials, are\u2064 obligated \u200cto protect non-public\u200c information learned during\u200d their \u200dwork.<\/p>\n<p>  \u200d  <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cDepartment \u200bofficials, including those who have \u200bleft the Department, are\u2064 obligated \u200cto \u2063protect non-public information \u200bthey learned \u2063in the course\u2064 of \u200btheir \u2062work,\u201d\u200b Jones \u200dsaid. \u201cSuch information could be subject \u2064to various privileges, \u200cincluding law \u200denforcement, deliberative process, attorney work product, and attorney-client privileges,\u2062 and \u200bprivacy interests.\u2063 Current and \u200bformer \u2064Department officials also must protect classified information, \u2063sources and methods, and grand jury \u200binformation\u200b protected by Federal Rule of \u200bCriminal Procedure\u200d 6(e).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u200d <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> \u2063   <\/p>\n<p>Republicans on\u2063 the Committee claim that the\u2063 former \u2063supervisory agent\u200c addressed in\u200d the letter\u200c confirmed key portions of\u200d a whistleblower&#8217;s testimony, which \u2063alleged\u2063 political interference\u200c by \u2063the Biden administration in the investigation. James \u200dComer\u200b (R-Ky.)\u200d stated that \u200dthe Department \u2064of Justice&#8217;s alleged \u200c&#8221;efforts to \u2063cover\u2064 up&#8221; for \u200dthe Biden \u200cfamily demonstrate spokesperson told the New\u2064 York \u2062Post \u200cthat\u2062 the \u200dletter\u2063 is\u2064 a\u2064 standard practice to \u200cprovide guidance\u2064 to employees scheduled \u2063to
