The \u2062resolution passed\u2063 on\u200d July 18, \u200c412-9-1, with\u200b Rep. Betty McCollum (D-Minn.) voting &#8220;present.&#8221; The \u200dmembers who voted against the \u200cresolution\u200d were Reps. Ilhan Omar \u200d(D-Minn.), Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez \u2064(D-N.Y.), Delia Ramirez\u200d (D-Ill.), Jamaal\u2064 Bowman (D-N.Y.), Summer Lee\u2064 (D-Pa.), \u2063Andre Carson (D-Ind.), Cori Bush (D-Mo.), and Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.).<\/p>\n<p> \u2063   <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Well, if you\u2063 look at the\u200c nine \u200bDemocrats there,\u2063 they&#8217;ve got a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mccarthy-rebukes-9-democrats-who-voted-against-pro-israel-resolution\/\" title=\"McCarthy criticizes 9 Dems opposing Pro-Israel resolution.\">real antisemitic\u2063 problem inside<\/a> their confidence, \u2064and it seems to be growing with their \u2062leadership doing nothing\u2062 about \u2062it,&#8221; \u2062Mr.\u2062 McCarthy told The\u2062 Epoch Times\u2063 on\u200b July \u200d19.\u2063 &#8220;They allow them to continue \u200bto say\u200c the things they have,\u2062 to\u200b equate the U.S. \u200bmilitary to the Taliban, to say Israel \u2063is evil, to say only\u200c members&#8217; relationship\u200b with Israel is all about the Benjamins.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>  \u200d  <\/p>\n<p>In\u2064 June 2021, Ms. Omar\u200d equated the United States \u2062and\u200c Israel \u2063to \u2063the Taliban and Hamas, the latter of\u2064 which is a U.S.-designated\u2063 terrorist group. \u2063&#8221;We\u2063 must have the\u2062 same level of accountability and justice \u2064for \u200ball victims of crimes against \u2064humanity. We have \u2062seen\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrat-ilhan-omar-the-united-states-and-israel-commit-unthinkable-atrocities-like-the-taliban-hamas\/\" title=\"Democrat Ilhan Omar: The United States And Israel Commit \u2018Unthinkable Atrocities\u2019 Like The Taliban, Hamas\">unthinkable atrocities committed<\/a> by the\u200d U.S., Hamas, \u2064Israel, \u200bAfghanistan, and the Taliban,&#8221;\u200d posted \u2064Ms. Omar on Twitter. Ms. Omar subsequently sought to clarify her tweet.<\/p>\n<p> \u200d   \u200d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On Monday, I asked\u200d Secretary of \u200bState Antony \u2064Blinken about ongoing\u2064 International\u2064 Criminal Court\u200b investigations,&#8221; \u2062she \u2063said in\u2064 a statement. \u200c&#8221;To be clear:\u200b the\u2062 conversation was about accountability \u2064for specific incidents \u2063regarding those ICC cases, not a moral comparison \u200cbetween \u200dHamas and the Taliban and the \u200bU.S. and \u2064Israel. I\u2064 was in no\u2062 way\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pelosi-leading-democrats-thank-ilhan-omar-for-clarification-of-statements-appearing-to-equate-us-israel-with-hamas-taliban\/\" title=\"Pelosi, Leading Democrats Thank Ilhan Omar For \u2018Clarification\u2019 Of Statements Appearing To Equate US, Israel With Hamas, Taliban\">equating terrorist organizations<\/a> with democratic countries \u2063with\u2063 well<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ilhan-omar-slams-jewish-democrat-critics-accuses-colleagues-of-islamophobia-harassment\/\" title=\"Ilhan Omar Slams Jewish Democrat Critics, Accuses Colleagues Of Islamophobia, \u2018Harassment\u2019\">-established judicial systems<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>  \u2063  <\/p>\n<p>In 2019, Ms. Omar \u200dposted\u200c in a now-deleted tweet\u200d that U.S. lawmaker support\u200c for Israel is &#8220;all\u200b about the Benjamins, baby,&#8221;\u2063 echoing the antisemitic \u200dnotion \u200bthat Israel pays \u2062lawmakers to support the\u200b Jewish\u200c state. \u2064Ms. \u2064Omar later apologized.<\/p>\n<p> \u200c   <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I\u200c mean,\u200c they continue to allow \u200bthis behavior,\u2063 antisemitic talk, go\u2062 on and ignore\u2064 it,&#8221; \u2064said Mr.\u2063 McCarthy. &#8220;But what&#8217;s even \u2063worse is \u2063they let them\u2064 allow to be\u200d the \u200bmost influential \u2063head \u2062of a caucus they \u2064have in their entire conference. \u2062So it\u200d shows that the\u200b Democratic Conference will \u2062ignore\u200b antisemitism and\u200d allow it to grow in their \u200cown conference.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The \u2063resolution,\u200d introduced by Rep. August\u2064 Pfluger (R-Texas),\u200c states that Congress believes: &#8220;The\u2063 state of Israel is\u2064 not a\u200d racist\u200b or apartheid\u200b state,&#8221;\u2062 and that \u2063&#8221;Congress\u2063 rejects all \u200bforms of antisemitism\u200b and xenophobia,&#8221; and\u200d that &#8220;the United States will \u200balways be a\u2063 staunch \u2064partner and\u200b supporter \u200cof \u200cIsrael.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>    \u2062<\/p>\n<h2>&#8216;Racist State&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>    \u2064<\/p>\n<p>The resolution \u200ccomes\u2063 in \u200cthe\u200c aftermath of Rep.\u2062 Pramila\u2062 Jayapal\u2063 (D-Wash.), chairwoman\u2064 of\u2063 the Congressional Progressive\u200c Caucus (CPC), \u2062calling Israel a &#8220;racist state.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p> \u200c\u200b \u2064  <\/p>\n<figure \u2062id=\"attachment_3475443\" style=\"width:\u200b 640px\" class=\"wp-caption\u200b alignnone\">\n\u2064   \u200c  \u2063   <a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2020\/08\/25\/GettyImages-1227830738-1200x800.jpg\"><br \/>\n \u2062 \u200b     \u200d   \u200d<figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><\/noscript><\/figcaption>\u2062   \u200c  \u200d \u2063<\/a><br \/>\n       \u2064 Rep. \u200dPramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) speaks during the House Judiciary Subcommittee on\u2062 Antitrust,\u2063 Commercial\u200d and Administrative Law \u2062hearing \u2063on Online Platforms and Market Power in the Rayburn \u200bHouse Office Building,\u2063 Capitol Hill in Washington,\u2064 on \u2062July 29,\u200c 2020.\u2064 (Graeme Jennings-Pool\/Getty Images)<br \/>\n\u200c \u200b  \u200b <\/figure>\n<p> \u200c \u200d \u2064 <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As somebody\u200c who&#8217;s been in \u2062the streets\u200d and\u200c participated in a lot \u200cof demonstrations, I want you to\u200b know \u2064that \u2062we have been fighting\u2063 to make it clear that Israel is a racist state,&#8221; Ms. Jayapal told pro-Palestinian demonstrators at the\u200b annual conference for the progressive organization\u200c Netroots Nation on \u200bJuly 16.<\/p>\n<p> \u200d\u2062   <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That \u2063the \u200dPalestinian people\u200d deserve self-determination and autonomy, that the dream of a \u2064two-state solution is slipping\u2064 away\u2064 from \u2064us, that it does not even\u200d feel\u200b possible,&#8221; she continued.<\/p>\n<p>However, Ms. Jayapal\u200c later reversed course,\u200d saying\u200d the Jewish state is not racist but that its\u2062 prime \u2064minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and \u200chis \u200dgovernment are.<\/p>\n<p>\u2062    \u2062<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At a conference, I\u2063 attempted\u200b to defuse a \u200ctense situation during a panel where fellow \u200dmembers of Congress \u2062were \u2064being protested. Words do matter, and so it is \u200dimportant that I clarify\u200d my statement,&#8221; she\u200d said\u2064 in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>    \u2064<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I do not \u200dbelieve the \u2064idea of\u2062 Israel as \u2062a nation\u200d is racist,&#8221; continued Ms.\u200d Jayapal.\u200c &#8220;I do,\u2064 however, believe \u2064that Netanyahu&#8217;s\u200c extreme right-wing \u2062government\u2064 has \u200cengaged\u2064 in\u2062 discriminatory and outright racist policies and that there are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gone-off-a-cliff-dems-grapple-with-anti-semitism-ahead-of-israeli-presidents-visit\/\" title=\"Dems struggle with anti-Semitism before Israeli President's visit.\">extreme racists driving<\/a> that policy within the leadership \u2062of \u200dthe current government.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I believe \u2063it is incumbent\u200b on all of us who are striving to\u2064 make\u2064 our world\u2064 a \u2064more just and equitable\u2062 place to call \u2064out\u200b and \u2064condemn\u2062 these \u2063policies and this current \u2062Netanyahu government&#8217;s role in furthering \u2062them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p> \u200d   <\/p>\n<p>Ms. \u2063Jayapal reiterated \u2063her call \u2064for a two-state \u2063solution to\u200b the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.<\/p>\n<p>  \u200b  \u2063<\/p>\n<p>She explained that\u2062 her response\u2064 at \u200dthe conference \u200bwas\u2063 her &#8220;responding to the\u200d deep \u2063pain and hopelessness that exists for Palestinians and their\u2064 diaspora\u2064 communities when it comes\u2064 to this \u200ddebate,\u2062 but\u2064 I \u2064in no \u200dway\u200c intended to deny\u2062 the deep pain \u2064and\u200c hurt of Israelis and their Jewish\u2062 diaspora community that \u2064still\u2064 reels \u200bfrom the trauma of pogroms\u2063 and \u2062persecution, the Holocaust,\u2064 and continuing antisemitism\u200d and\u200b hate violence that is rampant today.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u2063    <\/p>\n<p>House Democrat \u200bleadership\u2014House Minority\u200b Leader\u200d Hakeem \u200dJeffries (D-N.Y.), Minority Whip Katherine \u2062Clark \u2064(D-Mass.),\u2064 House\u200c Democrat Conference\u2062 Chair Pete \u200dAguilar\u200d (D-Calif.), and Vice Chair Ted Lieu (D-Calif.)\u2014rebutted Ms. Jayapal&#8217;s \u2063initial claim while not\u200d calling out Ms. Jayapal by name or condemning \u2062her.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Israel\u200b is\u2064 not \u200da \u2062racist state.\u200c As a Jewish \u200dand\u2063 Democratic nation, Israel was \u200bfounded 75 years \u2063ago on the\u200b principle of complete equality of\u2062 social and political\u2064 rights for all\u200b of \u2062its citizens \u200dirrespective of religion, race or\u200b se<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) criticized the nine Democrats who opposed a pro-Israel resolution in the House.
