Jean Carroll, \u200bawarding \u200cher $5 million in damages.<\/p>\n<p>In \u200ca 59-page decision, U.S. \u200dDistrict Judge Lewis Kaplan\u200b in Manhattan also \u2062dismissed Trump&#8217;s\u2063 arguments \u200dfor\u2063 reducing the damages to less than \u2062$1 million.<\/p>\n<p>Kaplan\u200c emphasized that the\u200d May 9 \u2062verdict\u200d was \u2062overwhelmingly in favor of Ms.\u2064 Carroll, stating \u2062that it\u200d was\u2062 neither\u2064 a\u200b &#8220;seriously erroneous result&#8221;\u2062 nor\u200c a &#8220;miscarriage of justice.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Allegations \u200cand\u200c Defamation<\/h3>\n<p>E.\u200d Jean Carroll, 79,\u2063 accused Trump, 77, of raping\u2062 her in\u200b a Manhattan department \u2064store dressing room in the mid-1990s.\u200c Trump later defamed\u2064 her by\u2063 labeling the incident a hoax\u2063 on his Truth Social platform in \u200bOctober \u20632022.<\/p>\n<p>Trump, who is \u2063currently running for presidency\u200b again, \u2062plans \u2062to appeal the\u200d verdict.\u2064 His lawyer \u2063has not yet responded to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Carroll is \u2063also pursuing a separate $10\u200b million defamation lawsuit\u200b against Trump for comments \u200che made in \u200dthe White House \u2062in June \u20622019, \u200bafter she \u2062initially \u2063accused him \u2063of assaulting her \u200cin the Bergdorf\u2064 Goodman department store.<\/p>\n<p>During the interview, Trump denied knowing Carroll, claimed \u2063she\u200b was not his &#8220;type,&#8221; \u200cand\u200d accused her\u200b of lying to boost\u200c sales of her \u200dmemoir, which\u2064 had been excerpted in \u200bNew York \u2063magazine.<\/p>\n<p>Carroll&#8217;s \u200blawyer,\u2064 Roberta Kaplan, who\u2064 is not related \u2062to\u2062 the judge, expressed her client&#8217;s\u2063 satisfaction \u200cwith \u2063the $5 \u2062million award \u2063and her determination to \u200chold\u2063 Trump\u200c accountable in the upcoming trial \u200cfor the second defamation \u2062lawsuit,\u2062 scheduled for January \u206415, 2024.<\/p>\n<h3>Judge \u2062Clarifies \u200bJury Verdict<\/h3>\n<p>In his attempt to\u200b reduce the damages, Trump argued that \u200dthe $2 million awarded \u200dfor\u200c sexual abuse was &#8220;grossly excessive&#8221; since it\u200b could have included \u200cactions\u200d such as groping \u2064Carroll&#8217;s breasts through clothing,\u200d which \u2064he claimed was far \u2064from\u2064 rape.<\/p>\n<p>However,\u200d Judge \u200dKaplan clarified \u2063that New York&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-loses-bid-for-new-trial-in-e-jean-carroll-case\/\" title=\"Trump's request for a new trial in the E. Jean Carroll case is denied.\">penal law\u200d defines rape<\/a>\u2063 more narrowly \u2062than \u200bcommonly believed, and Trump \u2064was \u200cmistaken\u200c in using this argument to excuse himself.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200b judge stated, &#8220;The evidence convincingly established, and the jury implicitly found, that Mr. \u2064Trump deliberately and forcibly penetrated Ms. Carroll&#8217;s\u2062 vagina with his fingers, causing immediate pain and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/15-pro-life-heroes-who-brought-us-the-overturn-of-roe-v-wade\/\" title=\"15 Pro-Life Heroes Who Brought Us The Overturn Of Roe v. Wade\">long-lasting emotional<\/a> and psychological harm.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Regarding \u200dthe $3 \u200cmillion \u200ddefamation award, the judge \u2064rejected Trump&#8217;s assertion\u2064 that it\u200c was based on\u2063 &#8220;pure speculation&#8221; \u2064about the harm to Carroll&#8217;s\u2063 reputation, \u2063stating that the \u2064evidence justified the \u2063amount.<\/p>\n<h3>Other \u200cLegal \u2064Troubles for Trump<\/h3>\n<p>Aside\u2062 from the Carroll case, Trump is facing numerous other legal challenges.
