It \u200bwould\u2063 be a grave failure \u200bif \u2062we\u200b did \u200dnot\u200c act in \u200bthe face of overwhelming\u200b evidence of\u2064 an\u2062 organized effort \u200dto \u200dundermine \u2062the legally cast \u2062ballots \u2062of\u200d millions \u2062of \u2063Michigan \u2063voters\u2063 in a presidential \u2064election.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Following President\u2063 Trump&#8217;s\u2064 allegations\u200b of fraud \u2064in\u200b the\u200b 2020\u200b election,\u2064 Republican\u2062 electors\u200c in\u2062 seven\u200d states,\u2062 including Michigan,\u2063 cast\u200b alternative votes \u200dfor \u200bhim.<\/p>\n<p>While it is not \u2063unprecedented\u200d for\u200c dueling\u2063 sets of\u200d electors to\u2062 cast \u2062votes in\u200b a\u2064 presidential election,\u2062 the\u2062 sheer \u200dnumber of\u2063 states doing \u2064so\u200b in\u200d 2020\u2063 created\u200d uncharted \u200bterritory.<\/p>\n<h2>Preserving Legal\u2064 Claims<\/h2>\n<p>Republicans\u2062 in some states argued\u200c that casting \u2062alternative\u2064 elector \u200cvotes \u200cwould \u200dpreserve\u200d President\u200d Trump&#8217;s\u200c legal\u2063 claims as various\u200c court\u2063 challenges unfolded.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sending\u2064 more \u2063than one slate of \u2063electors is \u2062not unheard \u200bof,&#8221;\u2063 explained\u2062 Meshawn\u2063 Maddock, \u200dformer \u2062co-chair of\u200b the\u200b Michigan Republican\u200d Party. &#8220;It is our \u2063duty \u200bto\u200b the people of Michigan and \u200cto the U.S. Constitution\u200d to\u200b send \u200danother slate of \u200delectors\u2062 if\u200c the election \u2063is\u200b in \u200cdispute\u2014and clearly,\u200b it is.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Maddock is among\u200b the\u200b 16 individuals \u2064charged by \u2063the\u200d Michigan\u200b Attorney General&#8217;s office. \u2063The other\u200b defendants include Kathy\u200c Berden,\u200d a\u2062 Republican National \u200cCommitteewoman from\u200b Michigan, as\u2063 well as \u2063William \u200b(Hank) \u200cChoate, Amy Facchinello, Clifford\u2063 Frost, \u200bStanley Grot, \u200dJohn\u2064 Haggard, Mary-Ann \u2063Henry, Timothy King, \u2064Michele\u2064 Lundgren, James Renner, Mayra\u2062 Rodriguez, Rose\u200d Rook,\u2062 Marian \u200cSheridan, Ken Thompson, and Kent \u200dVanderwood.<\/p>\n<p>According \u2063to the Michigan AG&#8217;s\u2063 office, \u200dthese\u200c individuals gathered at the Michigan \u2064Republican Party \u2062headquarters \u2063on \u200dDecember 14, 2020, \u200cand signed multiple\u200b certificates falsely \u2063claiming\u2063 to\u200d be the &#8220;duly \u2063elected \u200band qualified electors&#8221; for \u200dthe President \u200band Vice \u200dPresident \u2064of\u200b the\u200d United\u2064 States\u200d in\u200c Michigan.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That\u200b was\u2063 a lie,&#8221; declared \u200bNessel \u2064during a press conference.\u2062 &#8220;They \u200bwere not \u2063the \u200d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/michigan-ag-brings-felony-charges-against-16-false-electors-in-2020-presidential-election\/\" title=\"Michigan AG charges 16 'False Electors' in 2020 election.\">duly\u200d elected<\/a> and \u200dqualified \u2062electors, and each \u200dof the defendants knew\u200d it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>These fraudulent documents \u2064were \u2064then\u200b sent to the\u2062 U.S.\u200c Senate \u200cand\u2064 the National Archives\u2062 as \u200bpart of a coordinated effort to\u200c redirect Michigan&#8217;s\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/congressman-responds-with-2-words-when-asked-whether-hed-be-trumps-vp\/\" title=\"Congressman's succinct response to VP question: \"No comment.\"\">electoral \u2064votes<\/a>\u2063 to a \u200cdifferent \u2062candidate than the \u200cone chosen by \u2063the\u2064 people of Michigan.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The evidence \u200cwill \u200bprove that\u200c these false \u2063electors had\u200d no legal authority\u2062 to \u2064act as &#8216;duly\u2063 elected presidential electors&#8217; and \u200dsubmit\u2063 these fraudulent\u2064 electoral\u2064 documents,&#8221; \u200cNessel stated.<\/p>\n<p>Each\u2063 of\u200d the\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/michigan-ag-charges-sixteen-trump-2020-electors\/\" title=\"Michigan's Attorney General charges 16 Trump 2020 electors.\">accused\u2063 individuals\u200d faces\u2062 multiple felony charges<\/a>, \u200cincluding forgery, \u200dconspiracy to commit forgery, \u200band\u200b &#8220;uttering \u200dand\u200b publishing&#8221; \u200bfalse\u2064 documents.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has pressed charges against 16 individuals for falsely certifying that President Donald Trump won Michigan in the 2020 election.
