I \u2064didn\u2019t \u200dalways\u2064 hate it \u2014 I used to\u200b fly across the \u2062country to\u200c and \u200dfrom college\u2064 constantly\u200d without thinking \u2063about it. I\u2019d \u200dfly \u200dto \u200dEurope without stressing about\u2063 anything\u200d other than \u200bhow bored I\u2019d be for 12 hours. The \u200bChuck Yeager\u200d voice of \u2064the calm pilot \u200ctelling me to put my seatbelt on\u2062 was reassuring. I \u200blearned\u2064 about every gruesome plane crash from\u200b the last 50 years. I began to try to find out \u200bwhat <em>caused<\/em> \u2063most crashes, in a vain\u2063 attempt to\u2064 prevent having to go\u200c out like that.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> \u200b\u2063   <\/p>\n<p>What brings down \u200can\u2062 airplane? \u200b9\/11: al-Qaida terrorists. The American \u2063Airlines crash right \u200dafter 9\/11\u200d out\u2062 of\u2064 JFK airport\u2064 in\u200d New York: pilot error.\u200c The terrible Air \u2062France flight from South America:\u2062 frozen\u200d pitot \u200btubes \u2063and pilot\u2063 error. The \u200dCalgon \u2062Air crash: \u2062ice and\u200c pilot error. The \u2063miracle on \u2063the \u200cHudson: fat\u2063 geese.<\/p>\n<p>\u200b    <\/p>\n<p>The \u200dmiracle on the Hudson\u200b flight \u200cconfirmed\u2063 that\u200d in the \u200bunlikely event of \u2062a\u2063 flight mishap, having\u2064 a skilled pilot is literally \u2062your only \u2062hope.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2062 \u2062   <\/p>\n<p>This is\u2063 why\u200d the degrading of\u200c pilot\u200b training\u2064 and hiring in America fills me\u2062 with existential dread.\u2062 Since the pandemic-induced \u200cearly buyouts of older and extremely experienced commercial \u200dpilots, I\u2019ve\u2064 been extra jumpy. \u200dDays before a\u200c flight, I start\u200d checking\u2064 the turbulence\u2062 maps to \u200bpreview my fate. \u2062Looking at weather\u2063 reports. \u200bTrying \u2062to\u200c figure \u2062out how\u200d old my actual plane \u2064will be and\u200c what\u200b its\u2064 safety record is.\u2064 I don\u2019t fly certain airlines or during certain\u2063 times of\u2062 year (summer is thunderstorm \u200cseason). You\u2063 could\u200c not pay me to take an \u2064equator-crossing flight or \u2062one\u2063 near \u2063Singapore, both routes known for \u2063bad turbulence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div \u2063class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-568a56da84e093dc8af2f7403ac4ca98 \u2062fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-568a56da84e093dc8af2f7403ac4ca98\"><\/div>\n<p> \u200d   <\/p>\n<p>You might say I am a \u200dneurotic lunatic, that this is no way to live\u200b \u2014 and you\u2019d be \u200cright. \u200dBut\u200c I promise\u200d you \u2062that \u200dif \u2062you ever fly\u2062 with me,\u200d know \u200cthat my frantic prayers \u2064are the only \u200dthing keeping\u200b that metal tube from plummeting to\u2063 the ground.<\/p>\n<p> \u200d   <\/p>\n<p>The one thing that \u2063enables me to \u200cget\u2064 on a\u2062 plane\u2062 is the certainty \u200bthat my pilot is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/why-strange-clots-form-after-mrna-jabs-treatments-to-consider\/\" title=\"Why Strange Clots Form After mRNA Jabs, Treatments to Consider\">highly trained professional<\/a>,\u2062 maybe a\u2062 former Navy\u200c or Air \u2063Force pilot,\u200d with \u200cmany years of experience flying through rough weather\u2063 on lesser planes. Maybe \u2064he\u2019s \u200bflown \u2063sorties \u2064off an aircraft \u200ccarrier, \u200bdodged midair shrapnel. \u200bMy nonstop \u200bfrom LAX to Kona is a\u2064 piece\u2063 of\u2062 cake \u2062to \u2062this guy.\u2062 Nothing\u2019s\u2062 gonna faze \u200chim. He will\u200d get \u200cthe kids and me to our\u2062 overpriced \u200dvacation destination!<\/p>\n<p> \u200b \u200c \u2063 <\/p>\n<p>Only,\u2064 those guys\u200d are going\u2064 the way\u2063 of the dodo.\u2062 Most\u200b new\u2062 pilots have \u200cno\u200b military \u2063training. Some have \u2062never flown a plane before they walk into \u2063the United \u200dAirlines \u2062flight academy.<\/p>\n<p>  \u2063  \u2063<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Equity \u2064Air<\/h2>\n<p>  \u2063  <\/p>\n<p>Starting in 2020, airlines \u200cpanicked\u2062 and\u200b did two insanely stupid things. They forced \u2062a generation of their most\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/exclusive-airline-employees-4-health-freedom-sen-ted-cruz-spot-on-for-slamming-united-airlines-ceos-shameful-treatment-of-employees\/\" title=\"Exclusive \u2014\u00a0Airline Employees 4 Health Freedom: 'Sen. Then, when they realized\u200c they\u2019d triggered a\u2063 catastrophic pilot shortage, they \u2062massively \u200cincreased hiring. Unfortunately, \u2063it was 2020 \u200dso the new George\u200d Floyd rules were \u200din\u2063 effect. Airline after airline caved \u200dto the \u201cdiversity, \u2063equity, and\u200d inclusion\u201d commissars and committed to new race-based\u200c hiring \u200crules.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div\u2063 \u2014 and our \u2064plan is\u2062 for half\u200c of them \u200cto \u200cbe \u200dwomen\u2064 and people \u200dof color,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.united.com\/en\/us\/newsroom\/announcements\/2021-04-06-united-sets-new-diversity-goal-50-of-students-at-new-pilot-training-academy-to-be-women-and-people-of-color-2651374725\" target=\"_blank\"\u2062 rel=\"noreferrer\u2064 noopener\">said<\/a> United\u2064 CEO\u200b Scott Kirby. \u201cWe\u2019re excited that JPMorgan Chase has agreed\u200c to support our work \u2062to\u2063 diversify\u200b our pilot ranks\u200c and create new opportunities for thousands\u200d of \u200dwomen\u200b and\u200c people of color who want to\u200c pursue a career \u2063in aviation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> \u2063 \u2064  <\/p>\n<p>You \u2062may not \u2063be \u2062surprised to learn that\u2064 it was \u2064newly trained United pilots who\u2064 accidentally put a <a\u200b href=\"https:\/\/www.popularmechanics.com\/flight\/airlines\/a42887614\/united-airlines-boeing-777-nose-dive-hawaii-plunge\/\"\u2063 target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer\u2062 noopener\">plane<\/a>\u2063 into a \u200ddive toward\u2064 the ocean\u2062 this\u2062 year, coming\u2063 a few hundred \u200dfeet from turning the \u200cpassengers into fish food.\u2063 \u201cThe United Airlines \u200cpilots\u200c who \u2063were in the cockpit\u2063 when \u200btheir plane\u200d nosedived \u200cafter taking off in \u200cHawaii have\u200d been \u200dretrained,\u200c officials said \u200b\u2014 as aviation\u2063 experts\u2063 speculate they may\u200d have forgotten to program \u200cthe aircraft\u2019s autopilot,\u201d The New York Post \u200b<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/02\/14\/united-pilots-retrained-after-plane-nose-dived-above-pacific-airline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>  \u200c \u2064 <\/p>\n<p>The\u200d pilots \u2063were\u2064 <em>retrained<\/em>, you say?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>  \u200b  \u200b<\/p>\n<p>There was \u200canother \u200cUnited Airlines close call\u200c at Honolulu\u2019s \u2064airport \u200dthis year \u2062too. \u200dThe\u200b National \u2064Transportation \u200cSafety Board \u200bwill\u2062 investigate \u2062the Jan.\u200b 23, 2023, incident in \u200dwhich a\u2062 United\u200c Boeing 777 widebody\u2062 jet crossed\u200b the runway \u2062at the airport \u2062that a Kamaka\u2064 Air \u200dcargo\u200b plane was in\u200c the\u2063 process of landing on.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the last\u2062 12 months have delivered the highest number of near-collisions and narrowly\u2062 averted disasters in modern aviation history. \u201cWith seven <a \u200chref=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Runway_incursion\" \u200ctarget=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">runway \u200cincursions<\/a>\u2064 of\u2062 United States\u200d commercial\u2063 aircraft during January and \u2062February, the first two \u200dmonths of \u200c2023 saw the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_US_aircraft_near_miss_incidents_in_2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">highest rate \u2062of \u200bsuch incidents in five years<\/a>,\u201d \u2062according to\u200c Wikipedia.<\/p>\n<p>One plane came about\u200c 20 feet \u2062from landing \u2062on another \u200dplane \u200cfull \u2064of\u2063 people.\u00a0And \u200cthese near-collisions at airports don\u2019t include \u200cthe various oopsies\u200b mid-flight that have come close to\u2062 disaster.<\/p>\n<p>  \u2064  \u200b<\/p>\n<p>What has been the airlines\u2019 response?\u2063 Why, to\u2063 increase\u200b race-based hiring, of \u200bcourse!<\/p>\n<p>Notoriously \u200bwoke\u2063 American Airlines\u200c issued \u2063this press \u2063release \u2064in 2022: \u201cIn January, we set \u200cgoals around Black \u200crepresentation and retention, and we \u200cmet those \u2062goals by\u2064 December.\u200b We\u200d increased Black representation at the\u2063 director \u200band \u200dabove\u200b level by 50% \u200dversus 2020 \u2063and retained at least\u200c 90% of these\u2062 leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>  \u2063  <\/p>\n<p>And\u2064 at \u200dDelta, diversity is also \u200cnow job one.\u2063 The \u2064company is working hard to increase\u2062 the number of \u201cblack\u200c talent,\u201d \u200das it calls them. \u2062Unfortunately,\u2064 \u201cfor \u200cboth Black \u2063employees\u2064 and\u2064 other underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, our mid-year snapshot, from Q2\u2062 2021\u2063 to\u2063 Q2 2022, shows decreases at the \u200dsenior\u200c levels. \u200bFor\u2063 Black talent we \u200csaw a decrease\u2062 at \u2064the \u200bmanaging\u2064 director\u00a0level from 7%\u200d to 6%; at \u2063the vice president level it shifted \u200cfrom 7% \u2063to \u200b5%.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> \u2063\u200d   <\/p>\n<p>Oops!<\/p>\n<p>\u2064    <\/p>\n<p>But to \u200ccompensate for\u200d its shamefully white pilots, Delta just\u2063 announced a new <a Catastrophe.\">stupid virtue-signaling marketing campaign<\/a>.
