But \u200dif the\u200c August amendment is\u200c adopted, dubbed\u200d &#8220;Issue 1,&#8221; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/abortion-wont-save-democrats-in-the-midterms-despite-their-newfound-hopes\/\" title=\"Abortion Won\u2019t Save Democrats In The Midterms, Despite Their Newfound Hopes\">abortion referendum<\/a> that\u2064 is likely to take \u2062place \u2064later this \u2062year will \u2062need a 60% supermajority \u200dto \u200bbecome the law of the\u200b Buckeye State. \u2064The\u2062 state has passed \u200ba six<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/vogue-magazine-help-freezing-texans-by-paying-for-their-travel-to-get-an-abortion\/\" title=\"Vogue Magazine: Help Freezing Texans By Paying For Their Travel To Get An Abortion\">-week abortion ban<\/a>,\u2064 but the law has\u2064 been \u200ctied \u200cup in \u2064court \u200cchallenges.<\/p>\n<p>Ohio \u200dSecretary of State\u2062 Frank LaRose,\u2062 who \u200dannounced a \u200drun \u2064for \u200bSenate Monday, says \u2064the current hurdles \u200cfor\u2063 amending the state constitution are too easily cleared and\u2063 the state&#8217;s\u200b governing document should not\u2064 be\u2064 so easily changed.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Protecting\u200b Ohio&#8217;s \u200bConstitution<\/h3>\n<p>  \u2064<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s simply too easy to \u200bamend the state \u2062constitution,&#8221; LaRose told the Washington Examiner\u200b in an interview. &#8220;As a\u200c result, activist\u2062 groups,\u200d out-of-state groups \u200dhave figured out that they can try to\u2062 make \u200claws by\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/arizona-legislature-introduces-first-in-nation-resolution-to-protect-against-democrat-court-packing\/\" title=\"Arizona Legislature Introduces First-In-Nation Resolution To Protect Against Democrat 'Court Packing'\">constitutional amendment<\/a>, which is not how\u200d government\u200b is\u200b supposed to work. \u2064You\u2064 don&#8217;t\u200c want \u200dyour constitution to be changing constantly on whatever the issue\u200d of the day\u200c may\u2062 be.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But \u200bwith the \u2063vote \u2064on\u200c abortion \u2064potentially coming soon after the August referendum,\u2062 LaRose said \u200dthe \u2062Left is dishonestly trying to paint\u200d the\u2062 increased \u200dthreshold\u2062 amendment \u200das \u2063only\u2064 about\u2063 abortion, noting that the proposed amendment makes no changes \u200dto \u200dthe\u200b ballot \u200breferendum process for\u200b normal legislation.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n\u2064  <\/p>\n<h3>Not \u200dExclusively\u2064 About Abortion<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s\u200b never\u2063 been \u200cexclusively\u200b about abortion,&#8221; LaRose told the\u2063 Washington Examiner in \u2063an interview. &#8220;This is about protecting Ohio&#8217;s\u200d farmers from \u200bburdensome regulations \u2063that some have conceived. This is\u2063 about protecting Ohio small businesses from \u200dburdensome\u200b regulations. That&#8217;s why \u2063groups like \u2063the Ohio \u200cChamber \u2064of Commerce and \u2064the\u2064 Ohio \u200bFarm \u2063Bureau and\u2064 the Ohio Restaurant Association, groups that don&#8217;t\u2063 particularly focus on\u2064 the abortion question,\u200c they&#8217;ve all\u2063 supported this.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The\u2064 abortion amendment has been criticized by\u200d conservative and Republican \u2062groups\u2064 for overly \u2064broad language. The\u200c text of the\u2062 amendment, they say, would \u2063allow \u2064minors to undergo \u200csex change procedures \u200cor obtain\u200d abortions without parental consent, which is \u2062something that\u2064 would\u2062 be \u200bunlikely to garner 60% support from the state&#8217;s voters.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n  \u2062<\/p>\n<h3>Controversial\u200c Language<\/h3>\n<p>  \u2063<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Out-of-state sexual activists\u2064 are\u2064 attempting \u2062to amendment the Ohio constitution to allow degenerates \u2063to\u200d sexualize children in schools \u2062\u2014 even\u200b give them sex change \u2062procedures against their parents&#8217; wishes,&#8221; Terry Schilling, the\u200b president \u200dof \u2064the American \u2063Principles \u200cProject,\u200c told the Washington\u2064 Examiner. &#8220;This amendment\u200c would \u2062affect almost\u200c all \u200claws\u2064 and policies\u200c pertaining to children and families. These\u2063 radical activists know\u200c how expansive\u2063 this\u2064 amendment \u200cis\u2062 and that\u200c it \u2063could never muster support from 60% of Ohio families, and that\u2019s\u200c why they don\u2019t want\u200c it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Ohioans\u200c for Reproductive Freedom, a coalition\u200d of organizations \u200bthat\u2064 is behind the proposed abortion amendment \u2063campaign, did not respond\u200c to a request \u200bfor comment \u2064from \u200cthe\u2064 Washington Examiner. \u2062In\u200b May,\u200b the\u200c group\u2064 blasted the effort to increase\u200b the threshold for\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/meckler-h-r-1-marks-end-of-u-s-democracy-states-must-stand-up\/\" title=\"Meckler: H.R. 1 marks end of U.S. democracy, states must stand up\">constitutional amendments<\/a> as an\u200c &#8220;anti-democratic proposal.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n \u2062 <\/p>\n<h3>Protecting Ohioans&#8217; Freedom<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;Politicians \u200cin Columbus\u200b are launching this\u2063 attack on democracy because\u2062 they\u2019re out\u200d of \u2064touch \u200dwith\u2062 Ohioans, and they\u2019re scared of being\u2062 held \u200baccountable,&#8221;\u2064 Kellie \u200bCopeland, \u2062the \u2063group&#8217;s\u200b spokesperson said.\u2063 &#8220;These politicians\u200b know that \u200btheir radical \u2063views\u200b on abortion\u2062 care\u2064 can\u2019t \u200cwin a \u200cfair\u200b vote,\u200d so they\u2019re \u2062rigging the \u200dsystem. \u200cNow,\u2063 those \u200dsame \u2064politicians are\u200b trying to silence\u2064 the \u200bvoice\u200d of the majority in order to strip Ohioans of \u2063the freedom to access\u200b the\u200c reproductive healthcare they need.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>For\u200d his part,\u2064 LaRose sees a bit of irony\u2063 that\u200b the group is \u200doutraged\u200b at \u2064the 60%\u200b threshold proposal when most\u2064 of\u200d the organizations in the\u200b coalition\u200b require \u2063similar\u200c thresholds to amend their bylaws.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n \u2063\u200c <\/p>\n<h3>Joining\u2064 the Mainstream<\/h3>\n<p>\u2064  <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Any smart organization, I \u200bthink, realizes the \u2064danger of allowing \u200cyour \u200cfoundational rules\u200b to \u2064be \u2064changed by a\u200c simple\u200b majority,&#8221;\u2064 LaRose said. \u200c&#8221;States\u200c like Illinois, Massachusetts, \u2063Florida, Nevada,\u200c many others\u200c have elevated thresholds\u200c and protections in\u200c place to \u200dmake\u200b sure \u200bthat \u2062it&#8217;s not too easy \u200dto\u2064 amend their constitution,\u2063 and\u200d Ohio \u200bwould\u2063 be\u2062 joining the mainstream of other states by \u2063voting yes on Issue 1.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a \u200dhref=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\">CLICK HERE\u200d TO READ \u2064MORE FROM\u2064 THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Aug. 8, Ohio voters will decide on a constitutional amendment ballot referendum.
