Michael \u2064Burgess\u2062 (R-Texas) \u200casked Mr. Stockton,\u2064 who also\u2062 holds \u2064positions on\u200d subcommittees \u200din\u2063 the Department of \u2062Defense and \u2062the\u2064 Department of Energy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cManufacturers \u2064in\u2062 China\u2062 are \u200dimportant producers of inverters\u200b being\u200c deployed\u200c nationwide, \u200dacross the\u200c United States,\u201d Mr. Stockton\u2064 responded.<\/p>\n<p>He explained\u200b that \u200cthe country\u2019s reliance on Chinese \u2063inverters\u200d could jeopardize \u2063grid security.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSure, we\u2019ve\u200d got inverters. Some \u200dof\u200c them \u200bare\u200b made\u200d in \u2062China. Others \u200cmay be manufactured \u2062for \u200bfinal assembly in\u2062 friendly\u200d nations, but\u2064 they might have \u2062components\u2014hardware, \u200csoftware, and \u200dfirmware\u2014that \u2062could provide attack \u2063vectors. And\u2063 the \u2063constant\u2062 updating\u200b of firmware from\u2063 the cloud and\u200b by \u2064service providers\u2014who\u2019s \u200bon top of\u200c that \u2063for maintaining adequate\u2064 security?\u200b Congressman,\u200b that\u2019s\u200b an\u200b opportunity for progress,\u201d Mr.\u2062 Stockton said.<\/p>\n<h2>Solar Panels With \u200cParts \u200bFrom China<\/h2>\n<p>The \u200bUnited\u200b States\u2019 \u200cuse\u2062 of solar\u2063 panels \u200dwith\u200c parts from \u2062China that \u200bare assembled\u2063 in Southeast Asia\u200d has \u200cbeen\u200c a\u2064 source \u200dof controversy \u2063in this Congress. \u200dPresident \u2062Joe \u2062Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nnworcester\/status\/1658558195793526784\">vetoed a bill<\/a> that \u2063would \u2064have \u2064ended his temporary pause \u200con\u200c tariffs affecting those \u200dpanels.<\/p>\n<p>In his \u200bwritten testimony,\u200c Mr. \u200dStockton elaborated \u200con the ways \u2062inverter-based\u2064 resources \u200c\u201cprovide China with new \u200dopportunities\u2064 to disrupt the \u200cgrid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He referred\u200d to a \u200c2022 <a \u200dhref=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2022-10\/Cybersecurity%20Considerations%20for%20Distributed%20Energy%20Resources%20on%20the%20U.S.%20Electric%20Grid.pdf\">report<\/a> \u2063from the\u2062 Department \u2062of Energy\u2062 outlining \u200dthe cybersecurity\u2064 risks\u200c associated\u2063 with the changes\u200c to\u200b America\u2019s \u200bgrid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI \u2062propose\u200c that we\u2062 prioritize\u2063 our efforts \u200bto \u2062prevent\u2062 Chinese \u2062leaders \u2064from \u200daccomplishing their\u200c goals \u200cin \u200battacking \u2062the grid,\u201d Mr.\u2062 Stockton\u200d wrote.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2064 noted\u200b that\u200d inverter-based \u200cresources have some\u2062 advantages, \u200btestifying in writing that they \u201chave provided reliable,\u200b much<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/california-reaches-highest-energy-costs-since-2020-outages-residents-are-asked-to-reduce-power-use\/\" title=\"California Reaches Highest Energy Costs Since 2020 Outages; Residents Are Asked To Reduce Power Use\">-needed power<\/a> during\u200b the 2023 \u200cheat\u200b domes and other extreme\u2063 events.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYet, they are\u200d also prone to \u200ccatastrophic failures that can put the grid \u200dat\u2062 risk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep.
