Trump Has That Now\">falsely claimed<\/a> that President Donald Trump\u2063 won\u2064 Michigan in the 2020\u200c election.<\/p>\n<p>These 16 people now\u2063 face\u200b serious <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-president-trump-gives-pardons-to-73-individuals-and-commutes-another-70-sentences-steve-bannon-is-included\/\" title=\"BREAKING: President Trump Gives Pardons to 73 Individuals and Commutes Another 70 Sentences \u2013 Steve Bannon Is Included\">felony charges<\/a> that could\u200d result in a maximum sentence of \u200b85 years\u2062 in\u200c prison. Nessel&#8217;s office\u200c has\u2064 labeled \u200dthis\u2064 as a &#8220;false electors scheme&#8221; that\u2064 occurred\u200b after\u200b the \u20632020\u200c presidential\u200d election.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The \u2064actions \u200bof these\u200d false electors not \u200bonly eroded the \u200dpublic&#8217;s \u200btrust in our elections, but \u2063also \u200cblatantly \u200bviolated the\u200d laws that govern our\u2063 electoral process\u2062 in Michigan,&#8221;\u2062 stated Nessel.<\/p>\n<p>Nessel further emphasized the importance of taking \u2063action \u200cin\u200b this\u2064 case, \u2062stating, \u200d&#8221;Throughout \u200bmy tenure, \u2064my\u2063 department has\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/michigan-ag-brings-felony-charges-against-16-false-electors-in-2020-presidential-election\/\" title=\"Michigan AG charges 16 'False Electors' in 2020 election.\">prosecuted\u200d numerous cases involving\u200b election law violations<\/a>. It\u2064 would be \u2063a\u200d grave\u200c failure\u200c if\u2064 we did not act \u200cin the\u2062 face of overwhelming evidence\u2063 of an organized effort\u200d to undermine\u200b the \u2063legally \u200ccast ballots of millions\u2064 of \u200dMichigan \u2062voters in a \u2063presidential election.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Following\u2063 President Trump&#8217;s allegations\u200c of\u200d fraud in the\u2064 2020 election, Republican electors in seven states, including\u200b Michigan, cast \u200calternative votes for him.<\/p>\n<p>While it is \u200dnot unprecedented \u200dfor competing sets of electors to \u200dcast votes in a presidential election, the significant number \u200cof states doing so in 2020 created uncharted territory.<\/p>\n<h2>Preserving \u200cLegal \u2063Claims<\/h2>\n<p>Republicans \u2064in some\u2064 states\u200b argued\u200b that \u2062casting alternative elector\u2063 votes would \u2062protect President \u200cTrump&#8217;s legal\u200b claims as various court challenges unfolded.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Having\u2064 more than \u2062one slate \u200cof electors is\u2062 not unheard of,&#8221; \u2064explained\u2063 Meshawn \u200cMaddock,\u200d former\u2063 co-chair of the Michigan \u200dRepublican \u200bParty. &#8220;It is our duty to\u200b the people\u2062 of \u200dMichigan \u2064and \u200cto the \u200bU.S. \u200bConstitution\u200c to\u200c send another slate \u2062of electors\u200d if\u200b the \u200belection is \u200bin \u2062dispute\u2014and clearly, it\u2064 is.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Maddock is among \u2064the \u206416 \u200bindividuals charged by the Michigan Attorney General. \u2064The\u2063 other defendants include \u200cKathy Berden, a Republican National Committeewoman\u2064 from Michigan, as well\u200c as William (Hank)\u200b Choate,\u200b Amy Facchinello, Clifford Frost,\u200c Stanley Grot, John Haggard, \u200cMary-Ann Henry, Timothy King, \u200cMichele\u200c Lundgren,\u200c James Renner, Mayra \u2063Rodriguez,\u200d Rose Rook, Marian Sheridan, Ken Thompson,\u2064 and Kent Vanderwood.<\/p>\n<p>According to the\u200b Michigan\u200b AG&#8217;s office,\u2062 these \u200bindividuals gathered \u200cat the Michigan\u200d Republican Party\u200d headquarters on December 14,\u200b 2020, and\u2064 signed\u2062 multiple certificates falsely \u200dclaiming to\u2063 be \u2064the \u200d&#8221;duly\u2062 elected and\u2063 qualified \u2064electors&#8221; for\u2062 the President and \u200dVice President of\u2064 the\u200d United States \u2062in Michigan.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That\u2062 was \u200ca lie,&#8221;\u200c declared Nessel \u200dduring a press \u2063conference. \u2062&#8221;They \u2062were not \u200dthe \u2062duly elected \u200cand qualified\u200d electors,\u200d and each\u2063 defendant knew it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>These\u2062 fraudulent documents were then\u2064 sent to\u200b the \u2062U.S.\u200d Senate and \u200cthe National \u2062Archives as part of a \u2064&#8221;coordinated \u2064effort&#8221; to \u200bredirect\u2063 Michigan&#8217;s electoral\u200b votes to a \u200bdifferent candidate than the \u200cone chosen\u2064 by the\u2062 people\u200c of \u2064Michigan.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The \u200bevidence will\u200d prove that these \u2064false electors had\u2063 no\u2063 legal \u200bauthority\u2064 to\u200b act as &#8216;duly elected presidential electors&#8217; and \u200csubmit \u200cthese fraudulent \u2062electoral documents,&#8221; Nessel stated.<\/p>\n<p>Each defendant is now \u200cfacing\u200c multiple felony\u200d charges,\u200b including\u2063 forgery, \u2063conspiracy\u200c to commit\u200c forgery, and &#8220;uttering \u200dand\u200d publishing&#8221; \u200dfalse\u200c documents.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has pressed charges against 16 individuals for falsely certifying that President Donald Trump won Michigan in the 2020 election.
