We \u2062don&#8217;t affirm\u200c the distorted thinking \u2064of\u200c anorexic\u2062 children \u200bwho\u200c suffer body \u200bdysmorphia, do we? And since studies \u200chave \u2062shown\u200d that gender \u2063dysphoria does not persist in most children past \u200dpuberty, why would any \u2064so<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/louisiana-lawmakers-override-democrat-governors-veto-of-child-sex-change-ban-in-rare-vote\/\" title=\"Louisiana lawmakers successfully override governor's veto on child sex change ban.\">-called treatment\u2062 include\u200b irreversible medical procedures<\/a>,&#8221;\u200d said\u200d Louisiana Republican Rep. Laurie Schlegel. \u200c&#8221;The suggestion that the\u2064 only hope\u2062 for children experiencing gender \u200bdysphoria is cross-sex\u2064 hormone therapy, puberty\u200b blockers, or life-changing sex operations \u200cis ludicrous. These\u2064 children \u200dneed intensive mental \u200bhealth counseling.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The\u200b House voted 75-23 to override\u2063 the \u2063veto, with 69 Republicans being joined\u200c by six Democrats. In the Senate, \u2063lawmakers voted 28-11 to adopt \u200dthe measure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>During discussion \u200dof the\u2063 bill,\u2062 Republican Senator John \u200dMorris said that &#8220;experimental \u200bprocedures\u2064 on minors that are irreversible&#8221; are not health\u200b care, \u2063citing long-term health \u200cproblems, such \u200cas fertility issues, that have \u200bbeen associated with \u2062transgender procedures. Republican\u2064 Senator Mike Fesi pointed\u200d to regret \u200bfrom\u200d people who &#8220;transitioned&#8221; at a young \u2064age\u200b and wished\u2063 their parents had not allowed \u2063them to go through with the transgender \u200cprocedures.<\/p>\n<p>Democrat Senator\u200c Jay Luneau\u200c claimed\u200d that the \u2063bill would\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-biden-title-ix-order-will-help-schools-push-transgenderism-on-your-kids-behind-your-back\/\" title=\"New Biden Title IX Order Will Help Schools Push Transgenderism On Your Kids Behind Your Back\">violate parental rights<\/a> \u2062and contained \u200dvague provisions \u2063that \u2062would be unconstitutional.<\/p>\n<p>Republican\u200c Senator \u2063Fred\u200d Mills, who<span style=\"font-weight:\u200d 400\"> \u2064<\/span><a\u2062 href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/louisiana-republican-blocks-bill-that-would-have-banned-transgender-surgeries-on-children\" \u200dtarget=\"_blank\"\u200c rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">previously held up\u2064 the bill\u200c in committee<\/span><\/a>, claimed that the\u200b bill would\u2062 have\u200b implications for future medical-related bills and praised former \u200bRepublican Governor Asa\u200d Hutchinson\u2062 for his\u2062 veto of a\u200c ban \u2063on\u200b transgender procedures in Arkansas, arguing Louisiana lawmakers should take a similar approach.<\/p>\n<p>In\u2062 May, \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/senate.la.gov\/smembers?ID=22\"\u2064 target=\"_blank\" \u200brel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mills<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:\u200d 400\"> joined Democrats in \u2063a\u200b <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SaraLCline\/status\/1661428182732492801\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">5-4 vote<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> on \u200bthe Health and Welfare Committee to block the advancement of \u200dthe bill.\u200c Edwards \u2062reportedly pressured\u200c lawmakers \u200bon the \u200bcommittee to kill the bill.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b \u200cdata-stringify-type=\"bold\"><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Before today&#8217;s vote, there have only been two successful vetoes\u2063 of a\u200c gubernatorial\u200d veto\u2062 since 1974, when \u200bthe state adopted a \u200dnew constitution, <\/span><a\u200c href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/government-and-politics-louisiana-gun-politics-9650df5e82bf7d34e05e8743ae4862ae\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">according<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2063to the\u200c Associated Press.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This bill was ground zero\u200d for\u2064 the veto session\u2062 and \u200dwill show up \u2064in every single race this year in Louisiana. The\u2064 legislature sent a historic message, loud \u200band clear, that in Louisiana, children are off limits.
