The\u2064 drug,\u200b called\u2062 Donanemab, demonstrated a\u200d significant\u2062 slowdown \u200dof 22%\u200c to 35% compared\u200b to\u2063 a\u2062 placebo\u200d study.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: \u2062320px; min-height: \u200b50px;\u200d \u2062 text-align:\u2063 center;\"> \u2062 \t<script>\u200b  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() \u2064{\u200c googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1');\u2063 });\u2062 \u200c \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<p>\u2062  <\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p> \u200d \u200b<\/p>\n<p>  \u2064 \u200b \u200b  <\/p>\n<p>The\u2062 study, published in \u200dthe Journal \u200dof the \u2063American Medical\u200c Association,\u200d measured\u2063 the \u200ceffectiveness \u2062of\u200c Donanemab by \u200dassessing\u2063 daily \u200cactivities\u200d such as \u2063driving, managing finances, \u200cand engaging in conversations \u2064about\u200b current\u2062 events. \u200cThe\u200c results clearly indicate \u200bthat the \u2064experimental drug \u2063outperformed \u2062the placebo\u2063 group.<\/p>\n<p>\u200d   \u2062 \u200b<\/p>\n<p>Lilly\u200d has \u2064already\u2063 submitted \u200can application \u2063for FDA approval\u200c earlier this \u2062year\u2063 and is optimistic about receiving \u2062the \u2063drug&#8217;s \u2063approval by the\u200b end of\u2062 the year.<\/p>\n<p> \u200b\u200d   <\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s\u200c important\u2064 to \u2062note\u2063 that\u2062 Donanemab \u200cis specifically \u200bdesigned \u200bto\u2063 slow \u2064the\u200b progression\u200b of \u200cAlzheimer&#8217;s \u200bin \u2062its early\u2063 stages\u2062 and may \u2064not \u200dbe \u2064effective for advanced\u200d cases\u2062 of the\u2062 disease.<\/p>\n<p>\u200d  \u2063 \u200c <\/p>\n<blockquote \u2063class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u200b <\/p>\n<p>\u201cFinally there\u2019s\u2063 some hope, right, that we can\u2064 talk\u2064 about,\u201d \u2064Lilly\u2019s Dr.\u2063 John Sims \u200dtold\u2062 reporters \u2063on\u2062 Monday at\u2062 the \u2064Alzheimer\u2019s\u2063 conference.<\/p>\n<p> \u2063  \u2062\u200b <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t\u200b cure \u200cthe disease,\u201d \u2064he said. \u201cDiabetes \u2062doesn\u2019t\u2064 have a cure \u200beither\u2063 \u2014\u200d it doesn\u2019t\u200b mean \u200dyou\u200c can\u2019t have very\u200d meaningful\u2063 treatments\u2064 for patients.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> \u200c<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u200d \u2062   <\/p>\n<p>The Eli \u200dLilly\u2063 drug\u2064 targets and clears \u2064beta-amyloid,\u200c sticky proteins \u2063that \u2064form\u2064 brain-clogging \u200bplaques. However, it&#8217;s important to \u2064be \u2063aware of the\u200d potential side effects of \u2063the \u2062drug,\u2062 which include\u200b brain \u200bswelling \u200cor \u2064bleeding.\u200c In \u2062fact, three \u200ddeaths\u2064 were\u2063 reported\u2064 during \u2062the Lilly study, with around a quarter of the Donanemab subjects \u2063experiencing \u2063brain\u2062 swelling\u2063 and\u2063 around \u200d20%\u2062 experiencing\u200b micro-bleeding.<\/p>\n<p>\u200c  \u2064\u200b  \u2063<\/p>\n<p>Some \u2063scientists \u200bhave \u200draised concerns\u200c about\u2063 the drug&#8217;s\u200b efficacy\u2064 and \u2063the\u2063 selection\u2062 of \u2063patients \u2062who should\u2064 try\u200b it.<\/p>\n<p> \u2064  \u2064 <blockquote\u2063 class=\"wp-block-quote\"> \u2063<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe modest benefits \u200dwould likely not be questioned\u200d by patients, \u200cclinicians or\u2063 payers \u200dif amyloid\u2062 antibodies were\u2064 low risk, inexpensive\u2063 and simple to administer.
