HHS\u200b Assistant \u200cSecretary \u2062for Legislative \u2063Affairs Melanie\u200b Egorin and Naz\u2063 Durakoglu, Assistant\u200d Secretary\u200d of State for the\u200d Bureau of Legislative Affairs,\u200b were\u2062 among\u200d the\u200d witnesses.<\/p>\n<p>Representative \u200dLee continued her questioning,\u200c asking Ms. Egorin when the briefing could be scheduled.\u200b Ms.\u200c Egorin responded, &#8220;Congresswoman, I will have\u200d my staff \u200creach \u200bout\u200c to your office to \u2062start working through\u2064 a process\u2063 on that issue.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A \u2064spokesman for HHS \u200bstated that\u200c they \u200chave repeatedly offered to hold a briefing,\u2064 but \u200dthe \u200ccommittee has not responded \u2063to schedule.\u2063 They are still waiting\u200d for a response \u200dfrom \u2062the committee.<\/p>\n<figure\u200b id=\"attachment_3756315\"\u200b style=\"width:\u2062 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2021\/03\/31\/in-Rio-Grande-Texas-migrants-unaccompanied-children-2-1200x800.jpg\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><\/noscript><\/figcaption><\/a><br \/>\n\t\t<img \u2063src=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2021\/03\/31\/in-Rio-Grande-Texas-migrants-unaccompanied-children-2-1200x800.jpg\" alt=\"Minors \u200bwho\u200b tested positive for COVID-19 sit \u2064in\u2064 the ground at\u2062 the Donna Department of\u2063 Homeland Security holding\u200c facility, the \u2063main detention\u200d center for\u200d unaccompanied \u200cchildren \u2064in the Rio \u200dGrande \u2063Valley run by the U.S. Customs\u200b and Border \u2063Protection, (CBP), in Donna, Texas, on March \u206430, \u200d2021. (AP \u2063Photo\/Dario Lopez-Mills, Pool)\"><br \/>\n\t<\/figure>\n<h2>Unanswered Questions<\/h2>\n<p>Representative Lee also raised concerns \u2063about the inability of\u2062 Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) Director \u200cRobin \u2062Dunn Marcos to answer\u200c multiple questions during \u2063a \u2064transcribed interview with committee investigators.\u2063 These\u2063 questions focused on how her \u2064staff \u200dhandles \u200bunaccompanied \u200bminors, including the screening\u200c process for prospective \u200dsponsors\u2063 to ensure\u200b the safety of the children.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. \u200dLee\u2062 stated, &#8220;Dunn Marcos was\u2064 unable to \u200cprovide\u2062 information or\u2063 answer a \u2063series of questions asked during a transcribed \u200binterview with the committee\u2014about 30 \u2062questions \u200dshe was not able \u200dto answer.\u200b For example, she couldn&#8217;t answer questions \u200cabout \u200cwhether the office she leads \u2063has a\u200d policy to refer \u200dknown gang members \u2064to \u200bthe \u200bDepartment of\u2063 Justice. She \u200dalso wasn&#8217;t sure \u200cduring \u200cthat interview whether,\u200b during \u2063her\u200c tenure, HHS had\u2064 ever transferred\u200d a child to\u200d a home\u2063 where a \u200c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hhs-official-cant-say-when-hill-will-be-briefed-on-unaccompanied-children-program\/\" title=\"HHS official unsure of briefing time for Hill on Unaccompanied Children Program.\">registered sex offender lives<\/a>, among other questions. We \u200bare\u200b also interested \u2064in how\u2062 many unaccompanied \u2062alien children \u2063we\u2064 have lost track of during this\u2063 [Biden] administration.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Lee expressed her \u200cdisappointment that the committee is \u200dstill waiting for answers promised by Ms. Dunn Marcos during\u200b the interview. Ms. Egorin responded, &#8220;Congresswoman, at this moment, I am unaware of where we are\u2064 in terms of a timeline.\u2063 I\u2063 am happy to \u2064have my staff work with your \u2064staff and\u200b provide an update.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Government \u2063data\u2062 shows that over 128,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/amid-border-crisis-republicans-push-to-reinstate-remain-in-mexico\/\" title=\"Republicans seek to revive 'Remain In Mexico' amid border crisis.\">000 \u200dunaccompanied \u2064minors<\/a> were referred to \u2064HHS in\u2064 2022.
