They claimed that taxpayer funds \u2062authorized for\u200d other purposes were illegally diverted\u2062 to build a wall \u200cat the U.S. border \u2063in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and \u200bCalifornia. The Sierra\u2063 Club and Southern Borders Communities Coalition, two \u2064nonprofit organizations, also filed complaints. These lawsuits followed a national\u2062 emergency declaration by\u2062 Mr. Trump in 2019, which was \u200cused as justification to redirect billions of dollars towards wall\u2062 construction.<\/p>\n<p>\u2064  <\/p>\n<p>On \u2064July 17, the\u2064 Biden\u2062 administration \u2064agreed\u200b to\u2063 a settlement on the \u200bfour federal lawsuits. As\u2062 part\u200b of\u200d the \u2063settlement, \u2064they have\u2063 promised to halt \u200bthe construction of barriers at \u200dthe\u2062 border using\u2062 diverted funds and take \u2064steps to \u200cremediate the \u200calleged\u200c environmental harm caused \u200cby \u2062the previous administration&#8217;s border \u2064wall construction.<\/p>\n<p>\u2063  <\/p>\n<h3>Environmental \u2063Protection \u200band Military Construction Projects<\/h3>\n<p> \u2062 <\/p>\n<p>Under the settlement, the administration\u200c will \u200dallocate\u2062 funds for\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-york-city-pushes-the-limits-of-green-policies\/\" title=\"NYC pushes green policies to the max.\">environmental \u2063protection<\/a> and military construction \u2062projects.<\/p>\n<p> \u200b <\/p>\n<ul>\n\u200d    <\/p>\n<li>The Department of\u2064 Homeland Security \u200d(DHS) will provide $1.1 \u2063million to \u200dprograms \u200bthat monitor endangered species \u2062like the \u200bpeninsular\u2062 bighorn, Mexican gray wolf, jaguar,\u200b and ocelot. \u200bThey will also install\u200c wildlife passages\u2064 in\u2062 the border \u200dbarrier \u2062system to\u2064 facilitate \u200dthe movement \u200dof animals.<\/li>\n<li>DHS will \u2064offer $25 million to California, which\u200d can\u200b be used to\u2064 either aid an environmental \u2064nonprofit&#8217;s purchase of 1,200 acres of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-gavin-newsoms-wildfire-prevention-program-has-not-completed-a-single-project\/\" title=\"Report: Gavin Newsom's Wildfire Prevention Program Has Not Completed a Single Project\">environmentally sensitive land<\/a> \u2063near the U.S.-Mexico border or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-admin-to-grant-funds-for-environmental-protection-in-trump-border-wall-case\/\" title=\"Biden Admin to Fund Environmental Protection in Trump Border Wall Dispute\">fund\u200c environmental mitigation \u200dprojects<\/a>.<\/li>\n<p> \u200d   <\/p>\n<li>Over $427\u2063 million in funding\u2062 will \u2062be provided for\u2064 military \u2063construction projects in California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maryland, New Mexico, \u2064New York, Oregon,\u200c Virginia, and Wisconsin.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u200b  \u2064<\/p>\n<h2>The Lawsuits\u200b and Settlement<\/h2>\n<p> \u2062 <\/p>\n<p>In 2019, when\u2062 the lawsuits were initially \u2063filed \u200bagainst Mr.\u2063 Trump&#8217;s \u200cdiversion of funds for wall construction, the district and appellate courts\u200d ruled\u200b in favor \u200cof\u2062 the plaintiffs. However, the \u2063U.S. Supreme Court allowed construction activities to continue while the\u2063 litigation was ongoing.<\/p>\n<p> \u2062 <\/p>\n<p>In 2021, President Biden ended Mr. Trump&#8217;s emergency declaration\u200c at \u2063the\u200c border\u200b on his first day in \u2064office, stating that the\u2064 construction \u2064of a\u200c wall\u2062 spanning the\u2064 entire\u200b southern border \u200bwas &#8220;a waste \u2062of money.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p> \u200d <\/p>\n<p>Following the end \u200dof \u200cthe \u200demergency declaration, the\u200b U.S.\u2064 Supreme Court sent\u2063 the\u200b lawsuits\u200b back\u200b to a federal\u2062 court\u200c in California. Subsequently,\u2063 the plaintiffs negotiated\u200b with the Biden administration, leading \u2063to the settlement.<\/p>\n<p> \u200c <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The\u200b Trump Border\u200d Wall is \u2064officially a\u2064 relic of\u200c the past, which is where it belongs,&#8221; \u200csaid Attorney General Bonta, according to\u200b a July 17 press \u200drelease. &#8220;Today&#8217;s settlement ushers in a new\u200b beginning.
