Our\u200c constitution creates a balance between the individual rights\u200d of \u2064defendants \u200cand\u2064 the individual rights \u200dof crime \u200cvictims. They\u200d did \u2062so\u2062 by \u200camending\u200b the bill of\u2064 rights\u2062 in \u2062our \u2064state constitution, setting out specific enumerated \u2064rights \u2062to\u2063 be\u200c enjoyed by all\u2064 crime victims\u200d in this state. Those enumerated\u2063 rights \u200cinclude the\u2064 explicitly\u2062 defined right to\u2063 have their safety\u2063 and \u200cthe \u2063safety\u2063 of their families \u2063considered by \u200dthe\u2063 courts in\u200d \u2018denying or fixing the amount\u2063 of \u200cbail,&#8217;\u201d Overstreet\u2064 wrote.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>  \u2062  <\/p>\n<p>Governor J.B Pritzker (D-Ill.)\u2064 was\u200d pleased that the Supreme \u200ccourt\u200d upheld \u200cthe\u2062 constitutionality of the new \u200cact<\/p>\n<p>  \u200b\u200c \u200d <blockquote\u200c class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m pleased\u2064 that the \u2064Illinois\u200d Supreme \u2062Court has upheld \u2063the\u200c constitutionality of the \u2062SAFE-T Act and \u200bthe \u200celimination of cash bail.\u2064 We can now move forward with\u2064 historic \u2062reform to ensure pre-trial detainment\u2063 is determined by the danger an\u200c individual poses to\u200c the community\u2062 instead of by\u200c their \u200cability \u200bto\u2064 pay \u2064their way out of jail.\u2064 My \u200bthanks\u2064 to Attorney \u2064General Raoul\u2019s \u200boffice and the many people who\u2064 worked\u200c tirelessly over\u2063 the\u2064 last months \u200cto defend\u2064 these important \u2062reforms,\u201d\u200d Pritzker said.\u200c \u201cI\u2064 look forward \u2062to \u2062continuing\u200c to work with \u200cthe General \u200bAssembly and \u200dour many\u2064 other partners \u2062as\u200c we \u200dtransition \u2064to a more\u200b equitable\u200c and just\u200c Illinois.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u200c  \u2062 \u2062\u2064 <\/p>\n<p>Law\u2063 enforcement officials across the\u2063 state have argued \u2062that \u2062the law would let\u2063 dangerous criminals \u2062be \u200dout\u2064 on the \u2064streets, \u200dthreatening public safety.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> \u2062 \u2063  \u2062<\/p>\n<p>Stay informed!
