Beyond briefing Xi&#8217;s\u200b government on the\u2064 planned investment \u200brestrictions, \u200bYellen \u200ddeclined to use\u2064 tough-on-China language\u2063 that has angered the Chinese Communist Party. The Treasury \u200dsecretary\u200b refused during her \u2064trip to say that the Biden \u200dadministration is working to &#8220;decouple&#8221; or &#8220;de-risk&#8221; from China&#8217;s economy,\u200c instead arguing that\u200c the \u200dUnited States merely wants\u2063 &#8220;diverse&#8221; \u2062supply chains. \u2064Yellen\u200d <a \u2064href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/07\/09\/business\/janet-yellen-china-trip.html\" \u200dtarget=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hoped<\/a> that \u200blanguage\u200d would &#8220;allay China&#8217;s concerns,&#8221; according\u200c to the <em>New \u200cYork Times<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u200b  <\/p>\n<p>While China&#8217;s Foreign\u2063 Ministry on Tuesday condemned U.S. \u2064efforts to &#8220;place \u2063arbitrary curbs on normal technology cooperation and\u2064 trade,&#8221; the\u200c Biden administration&#8217;s\u2063 plans to restrict investment \u2064in China are more limited \u200cthan expected. The restrictions, \u200bwhich \u200cshould be unveiled by the end \u2064of August,\u2063 only apply to new investments\u2064 and include\u200c carveouts \u200cfor China&#8217;s biotechnology and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nolte-joe-biden-job-approval-hits-two-new-record-lows\/\" title=\"Nolte: Joe Biden Job Approval Hits Two New Record Lows\">energy sectors<\/a>, according to \u200c<em>Bloomberg<\/em>. American\u200d Enterprise Institute senior fellow Derek Scissors said that Yellen&#8217;s \u200c&#8221;constant attempts \u2063to\u200d reassure&#8221; China are &#8220;bizarre,&#8221; while American \u200bForeign \u200dPolicy \u2064Council \u2063senior \u200bfellow \u200bMichael Sobolik accused the administration \u200cof &#8220;pulling punches.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>  \u2064<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Biden administration should just \u2063be honest \u2062and say what they want: \u200bimproved relations with a \u200dgenocidal regime,&#8221; Sobolik told the <em>Washington Free Beacon<\/em>. &#8220;This is\u2063 how America\u2064 loses\u2064 the Cold War\u2063 with China.
