Rand Paul isn\u2019t letting go.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200dKentucky Republican\u2064 and the \u200bnow-former\u200d head \u200dof the National \u200bInstitute of\u200c Allergy\u200c and Infectious Diseases had some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fauci-blows-rand-paul-accuses-lying-congress-wuhan-research\/\" \u2064target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">headline-making clashes<\/a> over\u200c the \u2063origins \u2062of the COVID-19 pandemic while Fauci was \u2062still\u200d on the\u2064 job.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the U.K.\u2019s\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/health\/article-12308421\/Anthony-Fauci-accused-perjury-Former-White-House-doctor-LIED-oath-funding-gain-function-research-China-feared-started-Covid-pandemic-Republican-Senator-claims.html\" \u200btarget=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daily Mail<\/a> reported Monday,\u2063 six \u2064months \u200dafter Fauci stepped \u200bdown, Paul still wants\u2063 him\u200d investigated\u200b for potential perjury.<\/p>\n<p>In a Twitter\u2062 post Monday night, \u200bPaul confirmed\u200c the report.<\/p>\n<blockquote\u2063 class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">I\u2019ve\u200c referred Anthony Fauci to\u2062 the \u2062DOJ (again) \u2064for lying to Congress when he denied \u2063the\u2064 NIH was \u200bfunding of \u2064gain-of-function \u200dresearch in Wuhan. <a\u200d href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/LuPDleRhYW\">https:\/\/t.co\/LuPDleRhYW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014\u2063 Rand Paul (@RandPaul) \u200c<a \u200dhref=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RandPaul\/status\/1681093405940625412?\">July 18,\u200d 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Paul&#8217;s\u2064 Allegations and Fauci&#8217;s Testimony<\/h3>\n<p>According \u2062to the Daily \u200bMail,\u200b Paul wrote\u2063 last \u200dweek to \u2063Attorney \u2063General Merrick Garland \u200dciting Fauci\u2019s testimony during\u2064 a\u2064 2021 Senate \u2064hearing in \u2063which \u2063Paul \u200daccused \u2064the National Institutes\u2064 of Health \u2014 the umbrella agency\u200c for\u200b Fauci\u2019s \u2064NIAID\u2062 \u2014 \u2064of funding\u200b \u201cgain-of-function\u201d \u2063research at\u2064 the \u200bWuhan Institute\u2062 of Virology, \u200bthe Chinese\u200d biomedical \u200dlaboratory in the area \u2063where the COVID-19 pandemic\u200d began.<\/p>\n<p>(\u201cGain-of-function\u201d generally refers\u2064 to genetically altering\u2062 a\u2062 virus to make\u200d it\u200d more infectious\u200d to\u2064 humans.)<\/p>\n<p>During\u2062 the\u200c hearing, Paul noted \u200ba research paper produced\u2064 by Wuhan Institute\u200b of Virology scientists \u2064discussing\u2064 findings from \u200b\u201cgain of function research\u201d \u2064and \u2062acknowledged\u200c funding \u200bfrom\u200c the \u200dNIH.<\/p>\n<p>Fauci\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/disgusting-faucis-reaction-asked-whether-face-justice-funding-wuhan-lab-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" \u200drel=\"noopener\">stated<\/a> that \u200cthe NIH\u2062 \u201chas not ever and\u200b does not now \u2062fund gain-of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/steve-hilton-report-dr-anthony-fauci-is-directly-responsible-with-funding-the-gain-of-function-studies-that-resulted-in-coronavirus-pandemic-video\/\" title=\"Steve Hilton Report: Dr. Anthony Fauci Is Directly Responsible with Funding the Gain-of-Function Studies that Resulted in Coronavirus Pandemic (VIDEO)\">-function research<\/a> in the Wuhan\u2062 Institute\u200c of Virology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A \u200cWashington Post \u201c<a\u2064 href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2021\/05\/18\/fact-checking-senator-paul-dr-fauci-flap-over-wuhan-lab-funding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fact\u2062 Checker<\/a>\u201d \u2063column from May 18, 2021, acknowledged\u2062 that the \u2064dispute largely \u200binvolved\u200b the definition \u2062of \u200d\u201cgain-of-function\u201d\u200c in research. However, \u200cthe column came down on Fauci\u2019s side, noting that the \u2063\u201cNIH connection to possible \u200dgain-of-function research appears so far\u2063 to \u200cbe elusive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The column gave\u2064 Paul \u2064a rating\u200b of \u201ctwo\u2062 Pinnochios,\u201d\u200b which\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2019\/01\/07\/about-fact-checker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">relates to a statement that includes<\/a>\u00a0\u201c(s)ignificant\u200b omissions and\/or exaggerations.\u2064 Some \u200dfactual \u2064error may be involved but not necessarily. A politician can \u200bcreate \u2062a false, \u2062misleading impression by playing\u2064 with\u200c words and \u2062using legalistic \u200dlanguage\u200c that means little \u2063to \u2063ordinary \u2062people.
