meetings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo \u2062date, the FBI\u2019s compliance\u200b with these \u200dsubpoenas has been wholly\u2062 inadequate \u200dand\u2063 has \u2063materially\u200c impeded\u200b the Committee\u2019s \u200boversight \u2062efforts,\u201d\u200c wrote Jordan in a letter to\u200d Wray \u2063on\u200b Monday. \u201cAfter several accommodations,\u200c months \u2063of persistent outreach by the Committee, \u2063and attempts \u200dto \u2063negotiate and work with the\u2064 FBI in good \u200dfaith, \u200dwe write to \u2063notify\u2064 you that if\u2062 the FBI does not \u2064improve\u2063 its compliance substantially,\u2063 the \u2062Committee \u2063will take \u2064action\u2014such \u200das \u200bthe initiation of \u2064contempt \u200bof \u200cCongress proceedings\u2014to obtain compliance with\u2062 these\u2063 subpoenas.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div \u2062class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex \u2064justify-content-center\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-674388566591c1ebf85d11815d4c8772\"><\/div>\n<h3\u2062 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Targeting Parents at\u2062 School \u200cBoard Meetings<\/h3>\n<p>As Jordan\u2062 noted\u200b in the \u2062letter, the Judiciary\u2062 Committee subpoenaed\u200d the\u200b bureau \u200don Feb. 3 after \u200dit \u201cfailed to sufficiently comply\u201d \u200bwith their \u200crequest for \u200bdocuments related to\u2064 the \u200dFBI \u200b\u201corchestrating and\u2062 enforcing the Attorney General\u2019s \u2064October 4, 2021, \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jordan-warns-wray-produce-docs-on-fbi-bullying-of-catholics-and-concerned-parents-or-be-held-in-contempt\/\" title=\"Jordan warns Wray: Hand over docs on FBI bullying of Catholics and parents or face contempt.\">memorandum \u2064directing federal law enforcement resources<\/a> \u200dto address\u2064 a purported increase\u200d in school board-related threats.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>[READ: <a subpoena\u2019s March \u200d1\u2062 deadline, the\u2064 agency\u200b had \u2063only produced\u2063 a measly \u200c\u201cfour redacted\u2063 pages \u2064of school board-related documents.\u201d The FBI claimed\u200c in a \u2063cover \u2063letter accompanying the pages\u2064 that\u2062 its minimal compliance was\u2063 \u201cconsistent\u200c with the accommodation process,\u201d according\u200d to \u2064Jordan.\u2062 The committee \u200dthen \u2062\u201cagreed \u2063to accept documents on\u2064 a rolling \u200bbasis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A week\u200b later, the\u200d FBI \u201cproduced \u200bonly ten\u200c pages of documents\u201d \u200band\u200c made \u2062an \u2064additional\u2063 346 \u200bpages \u2062of \u2064documents\u200c available\u200c only for review\u200d \u201cin camera,\u201d \u2064meaning in private.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-539a66d01f71f51256ae8618c220bac0 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\"\u200d id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-539a66d01f71f51256ae8618c220bac0\"><\/div>\n<p>That\u200c same month,\u200b the \u2063FBI\u2019s Acting \u2064Assistant Director of Congressional Affairs \u2063Christopher Dunham \u200b<a \u200bhref=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/event\/118th-congress\/house-event\/115601\/text?s=1&#038;r=25\" target=\"_blank\" \u200crel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claimed<\/a> in \u200ca congressional \u200bhearing\u2062 that the bureau \u200cwas \u200b\u201cactively \u200dengaged\u2064 in providing\u200c additional \u2063information to the committee.\u201d \u2062However, \u201cAs\u200b the Committee\u2019s investigation has progressed,\u201d\u2064 Jordan wrote,\u200b \u201cit\u2062 is apparent \u200dthat \u2062the\u200d FBI \u200bpossesses\u2064 documents responsive \u200cto\u2062 the \u2064subpoena\u200b that\u2062 it\u2063 has not \u200dyet produced.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Just\u2064 one example \u2064is unseen \u2062correspondence that \u200cwould \u2063reveal further details of\u200c how\u2063 the National\u2063 School\u2063 Boards Association\u2019s infamous letter to President\u2064 Biden\u2064 about investigating parents who protested at school board \u200cmeetings\u200b for \u200b\u201cdomestic \u2063terrorism\u201d \u2063spawned a \u200dmemorandum\u200d from\u200c Attorney General \u2062Merrick Garland directing the\u200d FBI\u200c to do \u2062exactly \u2062that.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan \u200bwrote that \u2063in \u200ba transcribed interview, former FBI Section Chief \u200cof \u200bDomestic Terrorism Operations \u200bSteve\u200c Jensen testified that he received \u2064an \u200bemail from \u2062the DOJ\u2019s Office of the \u200dDeputy \u200dAttorney\u200b General, who provided \u200d\u201chim \u200da copy of \u200dthe NSBA\u2019s letter \u200dto President Biden and asked that\u2063 he coordinate and look into whether\u2062 the\u200b FBI \u200ccould \u200bengage on \u200bthe \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jordan-threatens-fbi-director-wray-with-contempt-over-targeting-parents-catholics\/\" title=\"Jordan warns FBI Director Wray of contempt for 'targeting' parents, Catholics.\">alleged \u2064threats<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Mr. \u2064Jensen\u2019s \u2062transcribed interview,\u2062 the\u2064 [FBI \u2064office of general counsel]\u200b attorneys \u2062accompanying Mr.\u200c Jensen agreed \u200bto produce \u2062these\u2063 documents,\u201d Jordan wrote.\u2064 So far,\u2063 however,\u200b the bureau has only produced \u201ccertain \u200bdocuments\u201d referenced in Jensen\u2019s transcribed interview, and\u2062 they\u2063 were \u201cheavily redacted.\u201d\u2062 According to\u200d Jordan, \u201cThe\u2063 Committee has requested unredacted copies of \u2064these documents. However, to date, \u2064the FBI has failed \u200cto produce these documents in\u2062 unredacted\u2063 form.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-61218c488d2a6dd50717031f50d720f0 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-61218c488d2a6dd50717031f50d720f0\"><\/div>\n<h3 \u200bclass=\"wp-block-heading\">Cracking Down \u2064on\u200d Traditional\u2064 Catholics<\/h3>\n<p>On Feb. \u200c16, the\u200b committee requested FBI documents\u200b related to \u200ba \u200c\u201cplainly\u201d \u200danti-First Amendment \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/02\/09\/fbi-retracts-memo-labeling-traditional-catholics-violent-white-supremacists-pushing-infiltration-of-christian-communities\/\" target=\"_blank\" \u2064rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">memorandum<\/a> issued by FBI\u2019s Richmond\u2062 Field Office <a\u2062 href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/documents-reveal-fbi-sought-develop-sources-local-catholic-churches\" target=\"_blank\" \u200crel=\"noreferrer noopener\">linking<\/a> \u201cracially \u200cor ethnically\u2062 motivated\u2062 violent \u200bextremists\u201d with \u201cradical-traditionalist\u2063 Catholic\u200b ideology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The\u2062 FBI did \u2062not respond \u2063to the\u200c committee until March 23, \u2062producing\u200d \u201conly 18 pages\u2014many\u2064 with \u2064significant\u200c redactions\u201d \u200bthat \u201cobscured key\u2062 information \u2063specifically\u200b responsive to \u2064the\u200b Committee\u2019s request,\u201d\u200b Jordan\u200c noted\u200d in his Monday letter.<\/p>\n<p>On April\u2064 10, the committee subpoenaed the \u200bFBI, and,\u2062 on\u200b the day \u2063of the subpoena \u200bdeadline,\u200b the bureau\u200b submitted \u200bmore than\u200c 200 \u200ddocuments. However, the bureau did not \u201cproduce \u2063an unredacted version \u2062of the memorandum\u2063 or \u200bany\u200c documents or \u2062communications\u2062 concerning the process of drafting, reviewing,\u2062 approving, or disseminating \u2064the \u2062memorandum\u2014 information\u200b that the subpoena compelled\u200c the FBI\u200b to produce,\u201d according to Jordan.<\/p>\n<p>The committee has \u2064since\u200c agreed\u200d to\u2063 accept documents on a \u2063\u201crolling \u2062basis,\u201d but,\u2063 as of\u200d Monday, the \u2062FBI \u2063\u201chas\u2063 not\u2063 provided a date certain nor advised the\u200b Committee \u2062when \u2062it will\u200d be next\u2062 producing documents \u2064pursuant to\u2063 the subpoena.\u201d As with\u200b its targeting\u2062 of parents \u2063at \u200bschool\u200b board\u2063 meetings,\u200c the FBI\u200b is\u2062 believed \u200dto be hiding \u2064key documents.<\/p>\n<p>Included in the\u2062 documents the\u200c FBI\u2064 is\u200b refusing\u2064 to \u200creveal \u2063to Congress is information \u200cabout\u200d the distribution of\u2064 the Richmond \u2064memorandum\u200c to \u200dfield\u200d offices across the country \u200d\u2014 something \u200bthe FBI allegedly did,\u200b according\u2062 to\u200c a \u200cwhistleblower. The\u2064 FBI has also refused \u2064\u201cto provide\u2062 the names \u200cof \u2062the FBI employees involved in \u2064drafting, reviewing, approving, or disseminating \u200bthe memorandum\u2014 despite\u200b repeated\u2064 requests from the \u200dCommittee.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3 \u2062class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Rapidly Approaching Deadline<\/h3>\n<p>The FBI has until July 25 \u200bat 12:00 \u200dp.m. \u201cto\u2062 substantially\u200c improve its \u200bcompliance with\u200c the subpoenas,\u201d Jordan wrote.\u200d \u201cThe \u200cFBI\u2019s \u2063productions to date have been heavily redacted to exclude\u200b critical\u200b information or \u200dsimply \u2063failed to include material responsive \u200bto \u2062the\u200c subpoena that the \u200cCommittee knows is, or \u200bhas reason to \u200cbelieve\u2062 may \u2064be, in \u200cthe\u200d FBI\u2019s\u2064 possession,\u201d\u2062 he <a \u2063href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/chairman-jordan-threatens-hold-fbi-director-contempt-congress\">added<\/a> in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dem-congressman-who-pushed-china-divestment-kept-his-own-chinese-investments\/\" title=\"Dem Congressman Who Pushed China Divestment Kept His Own Chinese Investments\">press release accompanying<\/a> \u200bthe \u200dletter.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan\u2019s \u200cletter \u2062also noted that\u2064 the \u2062FBI\u2019s numerous redactions in both cases \u2063violate subpoena \u2062rules. The bureau is required \u2062\u201cto \u2063produce \u200bunredacted documents, or assert a privilege\u2062 to shield\u2063 information,\u201d he\u200b said.\u200b However, \u201cthe\u200b FBI \u200dhas failed to \u2062assert any privilege \u200bpertaining \u200bto the \u200bredacted \u2063materials\u200d or provide\u2063 an accompanying privilege log\u2064 as required by the subpoena.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately the committee has \u2062found Wray\u2019s\u200d defiance \u201cunacceptable,\u201d particularly because\u2062 both cases\u200b involved the\u200d FBI weaponizing itself against Americans for exercising rights\u2062 protected \u200dby the \u2062First Amendment.<\/p>\n<div\u2062 class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-d5c05eacb814ec227334bb185756a5ee fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-d5c05eacb814ec227334bb185756a5ee\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan is warning that FBI Director Christopher Wray may face contempt of Congress charges.
