Ron DeSantis Takes on CNN in Media Outreach \u200cStrategy<\/h2>\n<p>Gov. \u2063Ron \u200dDeSantis (R-FL) \u200bis broadening\u200d his media \u2062outreach\u200d strategy by \u200csitting\u200d down with CNN as his campaign seeks \u200bto\u200c counter \u200ba range of negative\u2064 headlines.<\/p>\n<p>But \u2064with polling\u2063 indicating former President\u200c Donald Trump \u2064is only extending his\u2064 lead over DeSantis and\u200c the rest of the \u200bfield six months before the \u2063Iowa\u2063 caucuses, critics contend it \u2062may be\u200b too\u2064 little, \u2064too late\u2064 for the governor.<\/p>\n<h3>Changing the Narrative<\/h3>\n<p>DeSantis,\u200b whose interview with\u200b CNN&#8217;s Jake\u200b Tapper \u200cairs\u2063 Tuesday, &#8220;needs to \u200cget people to talk about him in a\u2063 different \u200cway,&#8221; according to\u200b former\u200b White House press\u2063 secretary \u200cAri Fleischer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For six \u200dmonths, the \u2062story has been \u2063\u2018Why isn\u2019t DeSantis catching on?\u2019 He needs to change \u2064the narrative, and\u2064 taking on\u2062 CNN \u200dis \u2062one way to\u2063 do \u200cit,&#8221; the former \u200bPresident\u2064 George \u200dW.\u200d Bush spokesman told\u2064 the Washington Examiner.<\/p>\n<p>Republican \u2062strategist Brad Todd \u200bagreed with Fleischer&#8217;s &#8220;taking \u200don CNN&#8221; remark,\u200b underscoring how DeSantis experienced his &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/desantis-mixes-up-media-strategy-in-hope-of-closing-trump-gap\/\" title=\"DeSantis alters media approach to narrow Trump gap.\">national political peak<\/a>&#8221; when he was\u200c being &#8220;derided&#8221; by the national \u2063media during \u200bthe COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Now he is trying to get a time machine \u200cto take\u2064 him \u200cback to\u2063 that by setting\u200b up\u2063 planned confrontations,&#8221; Todd \u200dsaid.\u200d &#8220;He\u2019s\u200b done much\u200d better when he\u2063 was posted up \u200dagainst the media than\u200b when he \u2063was \u2062posted \u2064up against\u2063 Donald \u2064Trump, so he\u2019s hoping \u200cto reframe things \u2063so voters see him \u2063in that \u200blight again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But a senior\u2062 Democratic \u200cNational Committee\u2063 aide dismissed the\u200c idea one\u2064 media appearance\u2062 will help DeSantis, \u200brepeating that the governor \u2063does not\u2064 have a \u200bstrategy problem\u2064 but\u200c a \u200ccandidate \u200bone.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s expectations\u2063 that have been \u2063his undoing,&#8221; \u200bthe\u200d DNC official said. \u200d&#8221;What people forget is campaigns \u200care a \u2064reflection of the principal. He now\u200d averages 20% support to\u200d Trump&#8217;s 54%,\u200c down \u200dfrom his \u2064high\u200d of \u206331% \u200bin February, according to RealClearPolitics.
