But the biggest \u2063loser of the day \u200dwasn\u2019t Mike Pence or Asa \u200cHutchinson; it \u2063was \u2064the failed gatekeepers in America\u2019s corporate media.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-396325905\"><div\u2062 id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-16e33fa8e0e9eda5cfa5b4a926343a66 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-16e33fa8e0e9eda5cfa5b4a926343a66\"><\/div>\n<p>  \u2062  <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Media Charade<\/h2>\n<p>    \u200b<\/p>\n<p>The\u2062 big shots at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/protesters-clash-with-cops-threaten-to-burn-dc-during-black-lives-matter-march\/\" title=\"Protesters Clash With Cops, Threaten To \u2018Burn\u2019 DC During \u2018Black Lives Matter\u2019 March\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/project-veritas-strips-cnn-naked\/\" title=\"Project Veritas Strips CNN Naked\">legacy media<\/a> outlets<\/a> like CNN or MSNBC are so disgusted by \u2064Republicans, from Trump to \u200bconcerned \u2062parents to pregnancy center\u200c volunteers, that it\u2019s impossible for them to \u2062take conservatives or\u2063 their ideas seriously.\u2063 Even just having a (the?) prominent Republican\u200c on air for an interview is anathema; look at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/media\/2023\/05\/11\/trump-cnn-town-hall-chris-licht-kaitlan-collins\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">meltdown<\/a> they had \u2063after\u200b CNN hosted\u200d a town \u2062hall with Donald \u200cTrump.<\/p>\n<p>When Republicans \u200care invited on air, it\u2019s\u2062 for\u2063 one \u200dof \u200ctwo purposes: to mock them or to get them to cave to the hive \u2064mind. Often, the \u200bfirst tactic \u200dis used \u200dto achieve the \u200dsecond. Elected \u200dRepublicans are chronically \u2062susceptible to this.<\/p>\n<p>  \u2062  <\/p>\n<p>No matter what, the peppering \u2064always comes \u200dfrom one direction. CNN\u200c anchors don\u2019t ask\u200c questions from the perspective\u2062 of \u2063Republican voters; they ask questions from the perspective of D.C. or\u2064 New York journalists \u2063who spend\u200d their\u200d lives on Twitter or at <a\u2062 href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2014\/05\/02\/from-the-editors-some-thoughts-on-nerdprom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinners<\/a>. And \u2063as Steve \u200bDeace,\u2064 a BlazeTV host, pointed out, establishment\u200c Republicans like it that way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a\u200d reason the\u200b GOP wants\u2064 enemy media\u2062 to moderate \u2063their\u2062 debates\/forums. So that they only get hit from the Left, and therefore every Republican looks\u200d like a \u2062hero,\u201d \u2063Deace <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SteveDeaceShow\/status\/1680919384049479681\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer \u200dnoopener\">explained<\/a>. \u2064\u201cPence\u200c is indistinguishable\u2062 from Trump. Asa indistinguishable from DeSantis. So\u2063 it\u2063 doesn\u2019t\u2064 matter \u2064who wins primaries, because they\u2019re all \u2018better\u2064 than the\u2064 Democrats.\u2019 This scam has \u2063ruined us,\u2062 the party, and this \u200bcountry for decades.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-e9d2126409f47cb98e6262eb01e72c91 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-e9d2126409f47cb98e6262eb01e72c91\"><\/div>\n<p>  \u2063  <\/p>\n<p>That \u201cscam\u201d\u2064 is\u200d a recipe \u200cfor sloppy\u200b media\u200c and sloppy candidates,\u200b not to mention\u200b dissatisfied voters. For\u2063 years, \u2064the big\u200d networks mostly maintained \u2064this \u2062monopoly, with some controlled opposition. \u200cNow, the\u200b success of a forum\u200b like what \u200cCarlson \u200bfacilitated \u200con \u2062Friday\u200b shows\u2064 the\u200d cracks in the current \u200cmedia\u2062 landscape \u2062\u2014 and the hunger \u2062conservative voters\u2062 have for \u200bsuch \u2062an alternative.<\/p>\n<p>   \u2062\u200b <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Filling the Void<\/h2>\n<p>  \u200c \u200b\u200c <\/p>\n<p>In Iowa, \u200dTucker Carlson put GOP candidates in a\u200c position they don\u2019t often find themselves: getting questions from their\u2064 right \u2062instead of \u2062their left. He \u200casked former Arkansas\u2062 Gov. Asa Hutchinson why he vetoed a \u200b<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/in-iowa-tucker-carlson-did-the-job-the-decaying-media-monolith-wont\/\" title=\"Tucker Carlson in Iowa: Media Fails, He Succeeds.\">bill\u2064 banning \u2062transgender interventions<\/a> for children, and\u2063 he asked former \u2064Vice President Mike\u2063 Pence to answer to\u200d voters who feel he\u2019s more concerned about\u200c defending\u2064 Ukraine \u200dthan defending American cities.\u200b <\/p>\n<p>   \u2064 \u2062<\/p>\n<p>In \u2063doing\u200d so, Carlson\u2019s \u2063questions actually did Republican \u200bcandidates a favor, though\u200b some\u200c of them\u2064 refused to\u200b take advantage of it.\u200b In\u2063 a media environment where many of the widely\u200b held perspectives behind his questions\u2064 are\u200b muscled or\u2064 mocked out \u2062of the public square, he gave the interviewees ammunition to help legitimize them. As\u2064 every institutional\u2062 powerhouse in media\u200b yanks the rope to \u2062the\u2063 left, events \u200dlike Friday\u2019s summit offer a tug the other \u200bway.<\/p>\n<p> \u200b   \u2063<\/p>\n<p>For Republicans \u200dwho \u2063actually like\u2064 their voter \u200dbase, that\u2019s\u2062 a good\u2063 thing. For those who don\u2019t, it\u2019s revealing, which is good\u200d for everyone\u2064 else.\u2064 But \u200bmost importantly, it fills a void for voters: The questions \u200dthey care about actually reach \u200bcandidates, they get to \u200bhear the answers, and they\u2063 see someone in media who actually represents them. It\u2019s why Tucker Carlson \u2063is \u200cso\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/05\/19\/tucker-carlson-more-popular-than-fox-news-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer\u2062 noopener\">popular<\/a>\u2062 and why trust \u2063in \u2064corporate media is abysmally <a\u2064 href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/403166\/americans-trust-media-remains-near-record-low.aspx#:~:text=Just%207%25%20of%20Americans%20have,in%20newspapers%2C%20TV%20and%20radio.\" \u2063target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">low<\/a>.\u2064 <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-ae6c500096d87a3607aaee7e8aaec3eb \u200bfdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-ae6c500096d87a3607aaee7e8aaec3eb\"><\/div>\n<p>  \u200d  <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The \u2018New Contras\u2019<\/h2>\n<p> \u2062   <\/p>\n<p>Carlson\u200d may be\u200c the most <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/05\/24\/poll-tucker-carlson-is-most-influential-public-figure-in-america\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/researchers-warn-ai-technology-could-sway-elections\/\" title=\"AI tech may influence elections, warn researchers.\">influential public figure<\/a> in \u2064America<\/a>, \u2063but he\u2019s representative of a \u2063shift that\u2019s \u2064been gaining momentum for years. In 2020, Ben Domenech and Emily \u200bJashinsky wrote in The Federalist of \u200dthose they termed the \u2062\u201cNew Contrarians,\u201d \u2062or the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/12\/09\/corporate-medias-intellectual-stagnation-feeds-the-new-contras-ascent\/\" \u2063target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New Contras<\/a>\u201d\u200b \u2014 \u201ca band of center-left journalists whose willingness \u2064to critique the excesses of leftism\u200c have pushed them from\u2062 major publications to \u2063ascendant\u200d self-publishing platforms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>  \u200d  <\/p>\n<p><strong>[READ: <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/11\/03\/the-new-contras-insurgence-against-legacy-media-is-only-getting-hotter\/\"\u200b target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The New\u2062 Contras\u2019 \u2064Insurgence \u2064Against Legacy Media Is\u2062 Only Getting Hotter<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> \u200b \u2064  <\/p>\n<p>These center-left dissidents \u2064may be \u2063strange bedfellows with a right-wing\u2064 firebrand\u2064 like \u2064Carlson, but they\u2019re both\u200b part of the\u2064 same sea change\u200c against\u2062 legacy \u200cmedia gatekeepers made\u200b possible by the\u200b entrepreneurial possibilities of the internet and \u2063the\u200c insufferable arrogance\u2063 of media\u2064 elites. <\/p>\n<p>As\u2062 the Manhattan \u200dInstitute\u2019s Ilya Shapiro <a \u200dhref=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/11\/03\/the-new-contras-insurgence-against-legacy-media-is-only-getting-hotter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">explained<\/a> to\u200d Domenech and\u200c Jashinsky, \u201cBefore\u2063 the internet, you needed to have some \u2064form of institutional support\u201d\u200b to \u200benter the \u200bmedia landscape. <br \/>\u201cThe democratization and \u2062the lowering \u2064of barriers of entry to influence\u200b making \u200dmedia is critical here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>   \u2062 \u200d<\/p>\n<p>With practice \u200cand \u200da growing audience, the New Contras are getting savvier. The\u200d production \u200dquality of \u200bFriday\u2019s \u200csummit, from Carlson\u2019s \u2064interviews to the analysis from \u200cBlaze hosts\u2062 and guest commentators, was decent \u200dand (more\u2062 importantly)\u200d seemed good \u2064enough \u2064to \u200csatisfy \u2062viewers. As \u200cmedia dominance continues \u2063to \u200dshift \u2062away from legacy \u2062networks and toward\u2063 YouTube, viewers\u2064 don\u2019t\u2063 appear to be\u200b dissuaded by\u200d nontraditional and even\u200b makeshift \u200bsetups if a\u2064 writer or podcaster has interesting things to say.<\/p>\n<p> \u2064  \u200b <\/p>\n<p>Notably, the breakdown of\u2062 the\u200c media monopoly isn\u2019t just happening\u2063 at news networks and in newsrooms, but it\u2019s \u200bstarting to \u200cripple\u2063 through Hollywood.\u200c Look no \u2064further\u2063 than \u201cSound of \u2062Freedom,\u201d the anti-child \u2062trafficking movie Angel Studios released on July 4. Like Angel\u2019s\u200b other big hit, the\u2062 TV series \u201cThe Chosen,\u201d\u200c \u201cSound of Freedom\u201d is wildly\u200b successful\u200b with audiences, \u200bhitting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/anafaguy\/2023\/07\/16\/surprise-hit-sound-of-freedom-moves-up-in-box-office-rankings-grossing-85-million-despite-controversy\/?sh=1fd6d43dfc27\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer\u2063 noopener\">No. 2 at \u2063the box office<\/a> this past\u2063 weekend.\u200b Like\u200c the Substacks\u200d and Patreon content of \u200dthe New Contras, \u200dboth cinematic projects have been crowdfunded, and both have been \u200dpraised for impressive production quality.\u200d And\u200c like Carlson, they\u2019ve\u200c met \u2062with considerable \u2064resistance from \u2062yesterday\u2019s powerbrokers.<\/p>\n<p>   \u2062\u2064 <\/p>\n<p>From movies\u2064 to\u2063 journalism, these ventures are\u2064 cropping up because\u2062 the \u200bgatekeepers \u200bat\u200c legacy networks \u2062and studios inadvertently created a\u200c vacuum for \u200cthem.
