Ritchie Torres\u200d Introduces Measure to\u2064 Censure Rep. George\u2062 Santos<\/h2>\n<p>Rep. \u200cRitchie Torres \u2062(D-N.Y.) has introduced\u2062 a measure to\u200c censure\u2064 Rep. George Santos \u200c(R-N.Y.) \u2063for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/what-to-believe-when-experts-lie\/\" title=\"What to Believe When Experts Lie?\">misleading statements<\/a>\u200d the freshman congressman\u200c made\u2064 during his 2022 campaign.<\/p>\n<p>  \u200c<\/p>\n<p>The measure, via \u200dan\u200d expedited process, \u200cwould \u200dforce \u200ca\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/congress-to-vote-thursday-on-removing-rep-marjorie-taylor-greene-from-all-committees\/\" title=\"Congress to Vote Thursday on Removing Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene From ALL Committees\">floor vote<\/a>\u2063 on\u200c the matter, bypassing \u200ccommittee \u2064votes, \u2062but seems\u200d unlikely \u2062to \u200dpass in \u2062the Republican-controlled lower chamber.<\/p>\n<p>  \u2062<\/p>\n<p>The same\u200c process\u2062 was recently\u2064 used \u2064by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna\u2064 (R-Fla.) \u200cin her\u200c successful\u2063 effort to \u200bcensure Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) over \u200dmisleading \u200ccomments\u2064 he made about\u200b President Donald Trump \u2064colluding with Russia ahead of the 2016\u200b election. The move \u2062prompted backlash \u200dfrom Democrats,\u2063 who broke \u200dinto \u200d<a \u2063href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/chaos-erupts-on-house-floor-as-democrats-protest-republican-censure-of-adam-schiff_5348409.html\">chaos<\/a>\u200c on \u2064the House floor \u200din \u200bprotest.<\/p>\n<p>  \u200d<\/p>\n<p>Despite his considerable power\u2062 over House\u2062 process, Speaker of \u2063the \u200cHouse\u2062 Kevin McCarthy \u200c(R-Calif.) will be unable to \u200cstop \u2062the advancement of \u2063the\u200d measure to\u2063 a \u2064floor \u200dvote unless the\u200c House\u2062 Ethics Committee,\u2062 which is currently investigating\u2064 Mr. Santos, acts \u2063sooner.<\/p>\n<p> \u200c <\/p>\n<p>Mr. Torres\u2019s resolution accuses Mr. \u2062Santos of \u201crepeatedly <strong>lying<\/strong> \u200dto voters in\u200c his\u200b district, donors, and\u2063 the\u2062 American public \u200cduring\u2063 his \u200bcampaign\u201d\u200d (<a\u200b href=\"https:\/\/s3.documentcloud.org\/documents\/23878984\/torres-santos-censure-pr.pdf\">pdf<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p> \u2064 <\/p>\n<figure \u2062id=\"attachment_5316090\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n\u2063    <a\u200b href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/06\/06\/id5316090-GettyImages-1435170458-1200x670.jpg\"><br \/>\n \u200b \u200b    \u200c<figcaption \u200cclass=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><\/noscript><\/figcaption>\u200b \u2062 <\/a><br \/>\n  \u200c \u200b <\/p>\n<h3>Rep.\u200b Ritchie Torres \u200cspeaks on \u2063stage\u2064 during\u200b a\u2064 Community Service Society of\u200c New \u2062York event at\u200b City Winery, in\u200c New York,\u2062 on Oct. 20, 2022. \u200b(Monica \u200bSchipper\/Getty\u2062 Images\u200b for The \u2063Community Service Society of New York)<\/h3>\n<\/figure>\n<p> \u200b\u2064 <\/p>\n<p>The resolution notes that it\u2019s not\u2062 just Democrats\u2064 criticizing \u200dMr.\u2062 Santos\u2014several members\u2063 of\u2064 his own party, including from the\u2064 New York State \u200cRepublican delegation, \u200bhave \u2063also called \u2063on Mr.\u2064 Santos to step down.<\/p>\n<p>  \u200d<\/p>\n<p>In a press conference \u200bon\u2063 the \u2064resolution, \u200cMr. \u200cTorres\u2064 said, \u2064\u201cthe\u200c time\u200b has come for Congress to speak with a \u200bsingle\u200d voice and to \u200dpublicly censure George Santos, whose \u200blies have \u2062gone unpunished.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr.\u200d Santos has systematically lied\u2062 to\u2064 the\u2062 American \u200cpeople,\u201d Mr. Torres\u200b said. \u201cHe\u2019s \u200blied \u200cabout \u200bevery facet of \u2064his life, his \u200bemployment and educational background,\u200c his\u2062 business and \u200dphilanthropic \u200cendeavors,\u2063 his \u200bties\u2063 to\u2063 historical\u2064 events \u200clike \u200bthe Holocaust \u200dand 9\/11 and\u2062 the Pulse mass shooting.<\/p>\n<p> \u200d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe breadth \u2063and depth \u2062of \u200bhis deception is \u2063so \u200bstaggering,\u200b that \u200dhe cries out \u200cfor \u2064congressional \u2064punishment,\u201d Mr. Torres \u2063added, \u2063saying\u2064 it \u2063was\u2063 \u201cthe least that we can do\u2063 to hold\u200d George\u200d Santos \u200caccountable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>  \u200d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. \u2063Santos replied\u2064 in a Twitter <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepSantosNY03\/status\/1681000231352127489\">thread<\/a> that Democrats\u2064 were focusing on the wrong issues and\u2062 pointed to his record in \u200dCongress, \u200ca common \u2062response for \u200bMr.\u2064 Santos when \u200dasked\u200c about\u2064 his past statements.<\/p>\n<p> \u200b <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDemocrats on \u2062the \u2064other \u2064side of\u2062 the \u200daisle\u2064 have \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-introduce-measure-to-censure-george-santos\/\" title=\"Democrats propose censuring George Santos.\">completely lost\u2063 focus<\/a> on\u2063 the \u2064work\u200c they should be doing. (Alex Wong\/Getty\u2062 Images)<\/h3>\n<p>\u2064  <\/figure>\n<p> \u2064 <\/p>\n<h2>The Charges<\/h2>\n<p>\u200c  <\/p>\n<p>The\u2063 resolution then\u200d lists a\u2063 number \u200dof \u200dspecific misleading \u2063comments that \u2062Mr. Santos is accused of \u2062having \u2063made.<\/p>\n<p>\u200b  <\/p>\n<p>In \u200cone case, Mr.\u200d Santos\u2063 allegedly \u201c<strong>lied<\/strong> \u2064about being\u2062 a member\u2063 of \u2062the Jewish\u200d faith \u200b\u2026 and \u2064deliberately misrepresented that\u200c his grandparents survived\u2063 the Holocaust.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u200d  \u200d<\/p>\n<p>In another case, Mr. Santos falsely claimed \u2062that his \u2062mother \u200chad died in the September 11, 2001\u200d terror attacks.<\/p>\n<p> \u2064 <\/p>\n<p>Mr.Santos also misrepresented his \u200beducational\u2062 background, saying \u2063he had received a bachelor\u2019s \u2062degree \u2064from Baruch\u2062 College and\u2064 a \u2064master\u2019s\u2062 degree\u2062 from New York\u2063 University.\u2062 Both \u2062institutions have<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rep.
