Clay Higgins \u2064(R-LA) passionately criticized the \u2064Department\u2062 of \u200cDefense (DOD) for\u2064 its repeated financial mismanagement.\u2064 Higgins\u200d highlighted the DOD&#8217;s failure to pass its fifth consecutive \u200caudit and its inability\u2062 to account for \u2063a staggering\u2063 61% of its $3.5\u200b trillion in assets.<\/p>\n<h3>A Call for Accountability<\/h3>\n<p>Addressing\u200b Brett Mansfield, the deputy \u200c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/flashback-former-ag-barr-initiated-spying-program-on-americans-back-in-1992\/\" title=\"FLASHBACK: Former AG Barr Initiated Spying Program on Americans Back in 1992\">inspector general<\/a> for audits at\u2062 the DOD Office of\u200d Inspector General,\u2063 Higgins\u200b drew attention\u2063 to the nation&#8217;s\u200c $32 \u200dtrillion debt. He compared the private sector&#8217;s practice \u2062of\u2063 auditing\u200c businesses before providing \u200dadditional funds to the \u200bDOD&#8217;s\u2063 expectation of\u200b increased expenditures despite \u200dits <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/russias-swift-alternative-expanding-quickly-this-year-says-central-bank\/\" title=\"Russia\u2019s SWIFT alternative expanding quickly this year, says central bank\">financial shortcomings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;If the \u200cbusiness \u2063fails the audit\u2063 [by the \u2062bank], what do you think happens? Can \u200dthat business\u2064 go \u2064to the bank and \u200bget\u200b more\u2063 money?&#8221; the \u200dcongressman \u2064asked.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It \u2063cannot,&#8221; Mansfield responded.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Higgins emphasized the\u2064 issue,\u200b stating, &#8220;Here&#8217;s\u2064 the \u200cproblem \u2063with this bank: we \u200bdon&#8217;t even have the money.\u2063 We&#8217;re\u2062 giving you\u200b a \u2064trillion dollars\u200b a\u2062 year almost \u2063now,\u200d and we just \u200cadded a trillion dollars.&#8221;\u2062 He condemned \u2064the DOD&#8217;s spending as an\u2064 &#8220;arrogantly abusive culture&#8221; that devours &#8220;the people&#8217;s wealth.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>A Demand for Change<\/h3>\n<p>Concluding \u200chis remarks, Higgins called\u2064 on the\u2063 witnesses\u2064 to ensure a clean audit\u200c for the DOD. Audit now!&#8221;\u2063 tweeted another commentator.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In March, \u200cRepublican \u2062lawmakers initiated an investigation into \u2062the \u2062DOD&#8217;s failure to\u2063 prevent waste, fraud, and\u200d abuse.\u2062 The investigation\u200b was prompted by the DOD&#8217;s loss of \u200d61% of its $3.5\u200d trillion in assets and its fifth consecutive\u2063 failed audit in November.
