min-height: 50px;  \u2062text-align: center;\">\u2062  \t<script>\u2062  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1');\u200c });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p> \u200c  <\/p>\n<p>Secretary of State \u200cAntony \u200bBlinken talked with chip company chief \u200cexecutives \u2063about the industry and\u2063 supply chains after his \u200crecent trip to China, \u200ba department spokesperson told reporters. \u200d<\/p>\n<p>\u2062 <\/p>\n<p>Commerce Secretary\u200c Gina Raimondo, \u2063National \u2062Economic\u2063 Council \u2064director Lael \u200cBrainard \u200dand National\u200b Security Council director \u200bJake \u200cSullivan were among other government officials meeting with Intel, Qualcomm and \u2063Nvidia, a\u2063 source \u2064familiar\u2064 with the meetings told Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>The chip industry is keen to protect its profits in China \u2064as\u200d the\u2063 Biden administration considers another round of \u2062restrictions on \u2062chip exports\u200c to China.\u2064 Last year, China\u200c accounted \u200bfor $180 \u200cbillion in semiconductor \u2062purchases, more than \u2062a third the worldwide total of $555.9 billion and\u2062 the\u2062 largest\u200d single market, according \u200bto Semiconductor Industry\u2064 Association (SIA).<\/p>\n<p>Blinken sought\u200d \u201cto share his perspective on the \u2063industry\u200b and \u2064on supply chain issues, especially after his\u200c recent visit to China\u201d and\u200b \u201cto hear directly from those \u2064companies\u200c about \u200chow they see supply chain \u200dissues, \u200dabout how they see doing business \u2063in China,\u201d State Department \u2062spokesperson Matthew Miller said \u200dat a press briefing.<\/p>\n<p>Discussions with \u2064government\u200d officials also included speeding up\u2062 disbursement \u2062of government money put aside for semiconductor firms in the CHIPS Act and making sure U.S. policy does not shut\u2063 the \u2063chip firms out of \u200cthe lucrative Chinese market, \u200da second source\u200d familiar with the\u2062 matter \u200csaid. \u200c<\/p>\n<p>Commerce\u2019s \u2062Raimondo is overseeing \u200cthe $39 billion CHIPS \u200cAct semiconductor manufacturing subsidy\u2062 program approved by \u200cCongress last year. \u200bThe law also created a 25% \u2064investment \u200dtax credit\u200c for\u200c building chip plants, estimated to be\u200b worth \u200d$24 billion.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2063U.S. government is \u2062also focused \u2063on China\u2019s\u2064 access to the most sophisticated artificial intelligence chips,\u200b the \u200csource \u2063added, saying Washington appears close to \u200ctightening the \u200crules around \u200dhow much computing\u2063 speed such chips could have but have not \u200byet \u2064picked a specific threshold. <\/p>\n<p>Earlier on Monday, the U.S.-based SIA called \u2062on the \u2064Biden \u2063administration to \u201crefrain from\u200d further restrictions\u201d on chip sales to\u2063 China and urged \u2063the \u200dadministration to \u200ballow \u201cthe industry to have continued \u2064access to \u200cthe China \u200dmarket, the world\u2019s\u2064 largest commercial\u200b market\u2062 for commodity semiconductors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u2062Biden \u200badministration \u200cis \u2062considering updating \u2063a sweeping set of rules \u200cimposed in October to hobble China\u2019s chip\u200b industry and a\u200c new executive\u200c order restricting some outbound investment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur actions have been carefully \u2064tailored to focus on\u200d technology with national security implications, and designed to\u2063 ensure that U.S. and allied technologies are\u2064 not \u2063used to undermine our national security,\u201d \u200ca White House\u200c National\u200b Security \u2064Council spokesperson said. <\/p>\n<p>Not every official was expected to\u200c meet\u200b with\u200c every company,\u200b said the initial source, \u200dwho spoke \u2063on \u2064condition of anonymity.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200c Commerce \u2064Department and \u2064White House declined to comment on any potential discussions.<\/p>\n<p>The meetings come after \u200cChina recently moved to \u200crestrict \u2062exports of raw materials such as gallium and germanium \u2062that are used in \u2062making \u2062chips, something the \u200cdepartment\u2063 spokesman said  Blinken discussed in CEO \u200cconversations. <\/p>\n<p>Nvidia,\u2064 Qualcomm\u2064 and Intel have \u2062crucial\u2062 sales riding on China. Qualcomm is\u2062 the only company \u200cwith a license from U.S. \u200cregulators \u2062to sell \u200dmobile \u2064phone chips to Huawei \u200bTechnology Co Ltd. <\/p>\n<p>Nvidia is \u200bselling an AI \u200cchip\u2062 tweaked \u200cfor \u200cthe\u2063 Chinese market \u2062that \u2062is already gaining traction among major Chinese \u2062firms, \u200dand \u2062Intel Chief\u2062 Executive\u200b Pat
