While \u200dthe majority of\u200b babies and\u2064 young \u200cchildren only have \u2063mild, \u2064cold-like symptoms,\u2064 some \u200binfants, \u200despecially\u200d with \u200btheir\u2062 first infection,\u200d go on\u200b to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-antibody-to-prevent-rsv-in-babies-and-toddlers-gets-fda-approval\/\" title=\"FDA approves new antibody to prevent RSV in infants and toddlers.\">develop lower\u200c respiratory tract \u200bdiseases<\/a> \u2062like pneumonia and\u200d bronchiolitis. \u200cThe\u2062 most vulnerable \u2062groups to developing \u2064severe RSV\u2062 disease are \u2062premature\u2064 infants\u2063 who have\u200b major congenital\u200d heart disease\u2062 or \u200dchronic\u2064 lung \u2064disease.<\/p>\n<p>RSV is \u2062believed to lead \u200daround\u2063 2.1 million\u2062 children\u200d under \u200bthe\u200c age of \u200c5\u2062 to seek \u200doutpatient care in\u2062 the \u2062United \u200dStates each year, and between 58,000 \u2064and\u200d 80,000 kids \u2062in \u2063that\u2062 age \u2063range\u200d are \u2064hospitalized\u2063 as \u200da result of these illnesses. RSV infections\u2064 are \u2062estimated to \u200bbe \u200bthe \u2062cause \u2062of\u200b between 100 and 300\u2063 child fatalities each\u2064 year in the\u200c U.S., \u200bwhile being the \u2063second\u2064 most \u200bcommon \u200dcause \u200bof infant deaths worldwide (behind \u2064malaria).<\/p>\n<blockquote \u2063class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p> \u200b<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRSV can cause serious\u2063 disease in \u200dinfants and \u2064some\u2062 children \u200band \u200cresults in a\u2062 large\u2063 number\u2063 of\u2062 emergency \u2062department\u200d and\u2062 physician\u2062 office visits\u2062 each \u200cyear,\u201d \u2062said John Farley, \u2062M.D., \u2063M.P.H., \u200ddirector of the\u200d Office of \u200dInfectious Diseases \u200bin the\u200d FDA\u2019s \u2062Center for Drug\u200b Evaluation\u2062 and Research. \u201cToday\u2019s approval \u2063addresses \u200cthe \u200cgreat \u200dneed \u200dfor\u2063 products to help reduce \u2064the \u200dimpact of RSV\u200d disease on children,\u2063 families\u2062 and the \u200bhealth\u200b care \u2063system.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>    \u200d<\/p>\n<p>When a\u200c baby is \u200ddelivered \u2064during \u2062the\u2064 respiratory syncytial \u200cvirus season, which\u200d normally\u2062 lasts from November \u2063to\u2062 late \u2062March, the \u2063antibodies are\u2062 administered\u200d in a\u2064 single \u2064injection at \u200cor shortly after birth.\u2062 The\u2062 injection would be \u2064administered to \u2063newborns \u2063who were born at various\u200b times of the year\u2063 in \u2064the first\u200c fall.\u2064 Additionally, injections would be \u200cgiven to children at\u200d a\u200d high risk of getting serious\u200c sickness\u2063 from RSV\u200c infection in order \u2064to\u200b help \u200cprotect them during their \u2062second \u200dRSV \u2063season.<\/p>\n<p>\u200d \u200b  \u200d\u200c <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cBeyfortus represents\u2064 an opportunity \u2064for\u2063 a\u2062 paradigm-shift\u2063 in preventing\u200b serious respiratory\u200d disease due\u2062 to RSV \u200cacross\u2063 a broad\u200b infant population \u2063in the U.S.,\u201d Iskra \u2064Reic, AstraZeneca\u2019s executive \u200dvice president for\u200c vaccines\u2064 and \u200bimmune \u200dtherapies, \u200bsaid in\u200d a \u2063statement.<\/p>\n<p> \u2064<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> \u200c \u200b  <\/p>\n<p>Beyfortus\u200b has antibodies that have\u200d already\u2063 developed and\u2063 can \u2062immediately \u2063defend \u2064infants\u2062 from serious \u2063illness. According to\u2064 trials\u2063 done\u200b on \u2063adults,\u2064 the\u2064 antibodies \u2062were \u200dseen \u200bin\u2064 the \u200dblood of \u200crecipients within hours\u2063 of \u200badministration and\u200d peaked\u2064 by \u2062day\u2062 six.<\/p>\n<p> \u200c\u200d  \u2063 <\/p>\n<p>According to\u200d the\u2062 FDA, Rash and\u2063 injection\u2064 site responses\u2064 are \u2062two possible Beyfortus side effects. Sanofi\u2064 will \u2063market it in\u200c the\u2063 U.S. after\u200d AstraZeneca\u2064 developed \u200dit.<\/p>\n<p>  \u2063  <\/p>\n<p>The Centers\u2064 for\u2062 Disease \u2064Control and \u200cPrevention\u2019s \u200cindependent expert \u2064advisory committee, the\u2063 Advisory \u2062Committee on Immunization\u2063 Practices, still\u2063 needs \u200dto\u2063 endorse\u200c the use of Beyfortus. \u2063The ACIP has scheduled a special \u200cmeeting \u200cfor\u2064 August\u200c 3<sup>rd<\/sup> to \u2063decide\u2064 on whether to\u200c recommend the antibody \u200dand \u2063whether to include it in \u2062the\u2063 Vaccines for\u2062 Children \u200dprogram, necessitating that \u200bthe \u200bfederal government\u2062 cover \u2064the cost\u2063 of it for\u200d kids without insurance.<\/p>\n<p>\u2062 \u2063 \u2062  \u200c<\/p>\n<p>This fall, there\u2063 may be\u2063 more ways to prevent \u2063the \u200billness besides\u200d Beyfortus. The \u2062FDA\u2063 is debating\u2064 whether to approve Pfizer\u2019s\u2063 vaccination\u2064 for expectant\u2063 mothers, which\u2062 also\u200c protects \u200cunborn \u2064children.
