The school claims \u200cthat \u2064it will \u2062be denied\u2064 state funding \u2063unless it\u2063 adopts \u200dpractices that \u2064go\u2062 against \u2062its\u2063 religious beliefs.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The\u2063 academy \u2064was\u200c thrilled to be\u2062 accepted \u2063into\u2064 a new \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/never-enough-bernie-sanders-says-6-trillion-spending-plan-probably-too-little\/\" title=\"Never Enough: Bernie Sanders Says  Trillion Spending Plan \u2018Probably Too Little\u2019\">universal preschool program<\/a> that\u2062 offers\u2062 15 \u200chours a \u200dweek \u200cof free preschool\u2062 to every 4-year-old\u200c in\u2063 the \u2064state. \u2064However, it\u200d later \u200bdiscovered \u2063that \u200din\u200d order\u200c to \u200breceive \u2062funding,\u200c it\u2062 must adhere\u200c to\u200b nondiscrimination provisions\u200b regarding\u2063 gender identity. \u2062Seeking\u2062 a\u2064 religious \u200dexemption, \u2064the \u2064school&#8217;s request\u2063 was \u2064denied.<\/p>\n<p>\u2062 <\/p>\n<p>The Alliance Defending\u200c Freedom \u200c(ADF), a nonprofit organization \u2063dedicated to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-republicans-push-bill-aimed-at-balancing-lgbt-rights-and-religious-freedom\/\" title=\"House Republicans Push Bill Aimed at Balancing LGBT Rights and Religious Freedom\">protecting religious freedom<\/a>, has filed a\u2062 federal\u2063 civil rights lawsuit\u2064 on\u2064 behalf \u200dof\u200b the school.\u2062 ADF Senior Counsel \u200cJeremiah \u2063Galus\u2062 argues, \u200b&#8221;The Constitution is \u2063clear: The government may\u200b not deny participation \u2063in a \u200cpublic program \u200dsimply due \u2064to \u200ba\u200d school&#8217;s \u200binternal \u200breligious\u200b exercise.\u200c Colorado officials\u200c are\u2063 violating the \u200bschool&#8217;s First \u2062Amendment \u200drights\u200c by\u200d forcing it \u2064to\u2063 abandon its religious beliefs\u2014the\u2062 reason \u200cwhy parents \u200dchoose to send \u2062their kids \u2063to\u200c the school\u2014to\u2062 receive critical state \u200dfunding.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The\u200b lawsuit names\u2063 Executive \u2064Director of the Colorado\u2064 Department \u200cof Early Childhood \u2063Lisa Roy\u200b and \u2062Director of Colorado&#8217;s\u2062 Universal Preschool Program\u2063 Dawn Odean\u2062 as\u2064 defendants.<\/p>\n<p>\u200c <\/p>\n<p>The \u200dlawsuit \u200dstates, &#8220;This civil-rights action \u200dseeks to prevent \u200bthe government from\u2063 forcing a Christian preschool \u2064to \u200bsurrender\u2063 its\u200c religious character, beliefs, \u2062and exercise \u200cto participate in \u200cColorado&#8217;s universal preschool\u200d program.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The \u2062school \u2064now faces\u200b a difficult\u2064 choice.\u200d It \u2064must\u2062 either adhere to\u2063 its religious beliefs \u200dand \u200bforfeit participation\u200c in \u2062the \u2062program\u200c or compromise its principles \u200bto \u200dreceive\u2064 state\u200d funding.
