He was \u200ddragged\u200c through\u200b the\u200b courts until the \u2062Supreme Court\u200b vindicated \u2062him\u2064 in 2018. \u200cNonetheless, the \u2063case was\u2063 decided \u200don \u2062very\u200d narrow \u200bgrounds.<\/p>\n<p>\u200b  \u2063 \u200d <\/p>\n<p>The court \u200bdetermined that the \u200bcommission \u200chad \u200dfailed\u2062 the constitutional\u200c requirement \u2063for \u200breligious neutrality. He\u2063 would\u2064 not make \u200bthe\u2063 ring\u200b with\u200d Ruth\u2019s\u2064 words \u200bto\u2064 Naomi\u200c (\u201cwither\u200b thou goest \u2063I\u2063 will \u2062go\u2026\u201d)\u2062 unless \u200cmy fianc\u00e9\u200d or I \u200bwere\u200c Jewish.\u2063 Neither\u200c of us is.<\/p>\n<p> \u2063 \u2063  \u2063<\/p>\n<p>What drew \u200dthe\u2064 ADF\u2019s attention was \u200cthat my fianc\u00e9\u2064 and\u2063 I acknowledged the man\u2019s\u2064 moral\u2064 right\u2063 to\u2062 deny \u2062us \u2062what \u2064we wanted.\u2063 The \u2063brief\u2062 summarized:<\/p>\n<p> \u2062\u200c \u200b  <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p> \u200c<\/p>\n[T]hey\u2062 could have challenged the \u2064denial\u200b as \u2063anti-Christian, or they\u2064 could have demanded \u2064their\u200d rights\u2063 as \u200dcustomers under \u200bthe\u200d law.
