In\u2063 May,\u2062 the\u2063 U.S. Supreme Court \u200dupheld \u200cCalifornia&#8217;s \u200dProposition 12, \u2064which blocks all \u2064sales of \u2062pork, eggs, and \u200cveal \u200bin\u200d the state \u2064from\u200d farms \u200cthat \u2064do not meet high-cost requirements\u200c for\u2064 raising animals.<\/p>\n<h3>Legislation to\u200b Stop \u200cEnforcement of Proposition\u200c 12 \u200bIntroduced<\/h3>\n<p>In response\u2063 to \u2062the decision, Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA) and Sen.\u200d Roger Marshall (R-KS) \u2064introduced a bill \u200caimed at \u2062stopping the enforcement\u2064 of Proposition \u200c12 on \u2063producers outside\u200c California.<\/p>\n<p>California&#8217;s \u200dmeasure, which\u2063 was approved by\u2063 63%\u2063 of\u200d voters \u2063in\u200d 2018\u200b and \u2062pushed\u200d heavily by \u200danimal \u200brights groups,\u2062 requires\u2063 all pork producers who\u2063 want \u200cto sell into \u200dthe\u2062 Golden State \u2064market \u2063to\u200b provide 24 square \u200cfeet per \u2062sow, which former \u200dNational \u2063Pork \u200cProducers\u2062 Council president \u2064Terry Wolters \u2062said could \u200ccost \u200bproducers \u200can\u200c additional \u200d$3,500 per sow \u2062for \u2063compliance.<\/p>\n<p>California\u2063 represents \u206313%\u2064 of\u200d the domestic\u200d pork\u200b market, the \u2064largest market \u200bin the\u200c country.\u2062 Hinson and \u2062Marshall \u200dintroduced the Ending \u2063Agricultural Trade \u200dSuppression Act, which\u2063 would \u200bblock any state from enforcing\u200b its \u200cown \u200c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/animal-activists-dangle-china-boogeyman-in-fight-over-california-pork-restrictions-2\/\" title=\"Animal activists dangle China boogeyman in fight over California pork restrictions\">agricultural production regulations<\/a>\u200c on another\u200c state: California cannot threaten access \u2063to\u200c its \u200bmarket \u200bif \u200ba Kansas \u2063hog producer does \u200dnot \u200bcomply \u200bwith\u200b Proposition 12.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cProp\u200b 12 allows \u2064liberal\u2063 lawmakers \u2064and radical \u200cactivists in \u2062California, \u2062who don\u2019t know the\u2063 first thing \u2064about\u200b farming\u2062 or raising \u2063animals,\u2062 to regulate \u200chow Iowa farmers \u200cdo\u200c their \u2062job, \u200bdevastating\u200c small family farms and \u2063making food more expensive,&#8221;\u200d Hinson told\u2064 the Washington \u200cExaminer. \u200c&#8221;To \u200cany \u200bliberal California\u2064 interest group \u2064that wants to claim\u200b they know the first\u2063 thing about agricultural production, you\u2063 have an\u200d open invite \u2064to\u200b come to \u200cIowa\u200c and\u200c learn how \u2063our\u200b farmers take the best\u2062 care \u200dof \u2062their animals \u2064and \u2062ensure\u2064 you have\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/whole-foods-claims-employees-wearing-blm-masks-violates-first-amendment\/\" title=\"Whole Foods Claims Employees Wearing BLM Masks Violates First Amendment\">high-quality food<\/a> \u2064on \u2063your plates.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The EATS \u2062Act has \u200bbeen\u2062 met \u2063with \u2063criticism \u200bfrom groups such as\u200c the\u2064 Organization for Competitive Markets, which \u2063says it\u2064 is\u200b aimed at &#8220;fighting\u200c for economic justice\u200b for\u2064 America&#8217;s \u200cfamily\u2064 farmers and ranchers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>OCM has\u2063 leaned \u200cinto\u2062 Beijing \u200cas\u2063 the boogeyman, saying\u2064 it\u200c is a \u200d&#8221;Pork Perk for China,&#8221; while also \u200darguing \u2063that \u200bit tramples on \u2064states&#8217;\u2064 rights. \u200bRecent\u2064 op-eds\u2064 in \u2063Townhall and \u2063the Hill, \u200bwhich \u200dOCM pushed\u200c on\u200b social\u2062 media, \u2064detail\u200c their position that the bill \u2062would \u2064benefit\u200c China \u2064because, \u200bfor example,\u2062 the world&#8217;s largest \u200dpork\u200c producer \u200dand packager Smithfield has \u2063been majority-owned by \u200cChina \u2062since\u200c 2013,\u2064 and\u200b the EATS Act\u200b would\u200c allow Smithfield\u200b noncompliance\u200b with California&#8217;s \u2062measure.<\/p>\n<p>While \u2063Smithfield is majority-owned\u200b by China, the EATS Act only \u200cpertains to American producers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That \u200dmight\u2062 be the \u200bmost \u2062ignorant\u2063 piece I&#8217;ve\u200d ever \u200cseen\u2063 written.\u200b It\u200b completely ignored what the bill\u2063 does,&#8221; Aaron\u200d Propelka,\u200d Kansas \u200dLivestock Association vice \u200dpresident \u2063of legal \u2064and \u200dgovernment affairs, said of \u2063the \u2063Townhall op-ed.<\/p>\n<p>Propelka told\u200b the Washington Examiner\u2062 that while Smithfield\u200b does \u200brepresent \u200c20% of\u200d the pork \u2064production\u200b and \u200cpackaging \u200dmarket,\u200b 80% is\u2064 still not \u2064connected to\u2062 China,\u2064 so that\u2063 connection \u200b&#8221;doesn&#8217;t \u2063even compute.&#8221; The EATS Act does not\u200b pertain to livestock production in other\u2064 countries.<\/p>\n<p>He\u200c also\u2063 said \u200d&#8221;the \u200bgroups \u2064that really \u200ddon&#8217;t want \u2063to\u2064 see this happen&#8221;\u2064 are the \u2064same\u2062 animal\u2063 rights\u2063 groups that\u200b backed\u200c Proposition 12 in\u2064 the \u2064first place,\u200b pointing to connections between \u200bOCM\u2062 and groups \u2063like \u200cthe \u200cHumane\u200c Society\u2063 of the \u200dUnited \u2062States, \u2063which was\u2062 heavily involved \u2063in \u2063defending the measure in \u2064the \u200dSupreme\u200c Court case.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;This \u200dis a hollow\u2063 argument \u2064fabricated \u200cand pushed\u200b by radical \u200bspecial\u2064 interests who \u200dwant to\u2062 impose burdensome regulations\u200b on Iowa farmers in \u200bthe\u200d name\u200c of \u2062animal\u200b welfare when they\u2064 don\u2019t \u2062know the \u2064first \u200cthing \u2063about raising animals,&#8221; a\u200d spokesperson \u2062for \u200cHinson,\u2064 commenting \u2062on \u200bthe \u200bpurported benefit\u2064 to\u200b China,\u200b told\u2063 the Washington Examiner.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The \u2063National\u200d Cattlemen&#8217;s Beef Association \u200balso supports \u2063the\u2063 EATS\u2064 Act \u2063and told the Washington Examiner \u200dthey \u2062are \u2062concerned \u200dabout \u200bthe \u200dagriculture \u2062industry-wide \u200dimplications of \u2062regulations\u2064 like \u200bProposition\u2064 12.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThis \u200cis\u2062 the\u2064 bigger strategy \u2063of animal\u200d activists looking \u2062at every \u2063little component they \u2064can find in\u2062 order \u200bto squeeze us\u200d to\u2064 the point \u200cwhere \u200bthey \u2062ultimately get\u200c their goal, which is \u200bto\u2062 reduce \u200bconsumption \u200dof\u2063 red \u2062meat or all meats \u200camong\u2063 Americans and globally,\u201d \u2064NCBA CEO Colin Woodall said in a radio interview.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to NCBA, \u2063animal rights \u200bactivists \u200chave &#8220;infiltrated&#8221;
