The consensus view\u200b of 0.5% expansion over the\u2063 first quarter is much\u2064 lower than the\u200d 2.2% quarter-on-quarter\u2064 growth in the \u2064January-March period,\u200b which \u200bcaptured the \u2063initial bounce after lockdown restrictions were lifted.<\/p>\n<p>Year-on-year growth\u200b is expected to \u200bcome\u200c in \u2062at \u2062a \u2063more impressive 7.3%,\u200d but \u200bthat\u200d is\u200b inflated\u200d by base \u2064effects\u200d from\u200b the low level \u200bof growth\u2063 in \u2064the same period last year.<\/p>\n<p>Any \u2062optimism \u200bthere\u2062 was early this year has evaporated. Activity \u2064has slowed, the economy \u2063is sliding \u2064towards deflation, and investors have\u2063 shunned China\u2019s stocks, bond and currency. China\u2019s \u2062<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/marketmind-can-q4-stop-the-rot\/\" title=\"Marketmind: Can Q4 stop the rot?\">economic surprises index<\/a>\u200b last\u2064 week hit a\u200b one year-low.<\/p>\n<p>Later in\u2063 the week China\u2019s central bank sets\u2063 its \u2062key \u200cone- and five-year lending \u2062rates.\u2063 A sub-consensus \u2062Q2 GDP print \u200bon \u2063Monday could tilt \u200cexpectations \u200dtoward further easing. <\/p>\n<p>\u200d <\/p>\n<p>Looking beyond China, \u200cinflation data \u2062from Japan and New Zealand on \u2063Friday\u2064 and\u2063 Wednesday, respectively, \u200cand unemployment figures\u2064 from \u2062Australia on Thursday will \u200dbe the\u200d most important points \u200con \u2064the\u200b regional\u200d calendar \u2062for investors this week.<\/p>\n<p>These come amid a \u2063renewed wave of bullish sentiment across\u2064 local \u2063and world\u200d markets, in large\u2064 part stemming from surprisingly tame\u2063 U.S. inflation data. The dollar and\u2063 U.S. \u2064bond yields have slumped,\u200d stocks and \u200drisk appetite have\u200c taken off.<\/p>\n<p>According \u2063to \u2062Goldman \u2064Sachs\u2019s financial \u2063conditions indexes, global financial \u2062conditions are the loosest since April\u200c last year,\u2062 and emerging market financial conditions are now the loosest since February last\u2063 year.<\/p>\n<p>Little\u2062 wonder\u200c the MSCI World stock index jumped 3.4%\u200b last \u200bweek, its \u2063best week since March, \u2062and the \u2063MSCI \u200bAsia ex-Japan index rallied\u2062 5.6%, its best week since November and finally \u200cshowing\u2063 signs \u200dof \u2064catching up\u200b after \u200cunderperforming all year.<\/p>\n<p>The early\u2064 stages of the\u2063 second-quarter \u2063U.S. earnings season\u2062 have \u2063also helped sustain the positive\u200b mood.
