The results\u200b of the \u200bpoll, \u2062conducted\u200b by the Trafalgar Group, \u200bwere exclusively\u200b provided to\u200d the \u200bWashington Examiner.<\/p>\n<h3>Three \u2062Takeaways from Day One\u200c of \u200cTurning Point Action Conference<\/h3>\n<ul>\n\u200b  <\/p>\n<li>Most conference-goers preferred \u2062Trump for the\u2063 nomination, \u2063with <strong>85.7%<\/strong> supporting the former\u2064 president.<\/li>\n<p>\u2063  \u200d<\/p>\n<li>Businessman \u2063Perry Johnson, who spoke on \u2063day two\u2063 of\u200b the event, came in second with \u2062<strong>7.8%<\/strong> \u2064of the votes.<\/li>\n<p>  \u2063<\/p>\n<li>Gov. \u200dRon \u200bDeSantis (R-FL)\u2062 followed\u200c with\u200b <strong>4.3%<\/strong> of \u200cthe\u2062 votes, despite\u2064 not attending \u2064the event in his \u200bhome \u2064state.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>DeSantis&#8217;\u200d campaign press \u200dsecretary,\u2062 Bryan\u200d Griffin, \u200cexplained\u200c that \u200cthe\u2064 governor\u200b spent the day \u200cwith\u2064 Iowans \u200cand \u200ddelivered\u200d speeches \u200cat other important \u200devents.\u200d However, his \u200cabsence\u200d seemed to \u200bhave affected \u200bhis showing \u2064in the poll.<\/p>\n<p>For their\u200d second preference, half of the respondents chose Vivek \u2063Ramaswamy, who also \u2062spoke\u2062 at the conference, deviating\u2062 from national\u2063 polling. Twenty-one percent named Trump\u2063 as their second \u200dpick, and 13.5%\u200c said \u200cGov. \u200cRon DeSantis\u200c (R-FL).<\/p>\n<p>Founder\u2064 and CEO Charlie Kirk stated, \u2063&#8221;The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/majority-support-trump-in-2024-gop-primary-straw-poll-at-turning-point-action-conference\/\" title=\"Most attendees at Turning Point Action Conference back Trump for 2024 GOP primary.\">straw \u200cpoll demonstrates<\/a>\u200b that President \u200bTrump\u2062 remains the\u200b single \u2064most \u2064dominant \u2063force\u2062 among the \u200dconservative grassroots. \u200bAll the attacks\u2062 against \u200dhim have\u200b seemingly made him even \u200dstronger \u2064and \u200bmore\u200b popular\u200d among\u200c the\u200c conservative faithful.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Kirk\u200b also acknowledged\u2062 the impact of \u200bDeSantis&#8217; \u2064absence, saying,\u2063 &#8220;Vivek showed \u200cup \u2064and\u200b gave\u2064 a great\u200d speech,\u200d and he was\u200b the clear second-choice \u2063favorite \u200camong our \u2062people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Kirk called \u2064Ramasamy&#8217;s\u2062 results\u2063 &#8220;remarkable&#8221;\u200d and highlighted\u200b the shifting passions\u2063 and\u2063 priorities \u2064of \u200dbase\u200d conservatives.<\/p>\n<p>Presidential candidates\u200c former \u2063Arkansas Gov. \u2064Asa\u2064 Hutchinson and Miami\u2062 Mayor Francis \u2063Suarez also spoke during the event. Notably, former\u2063 Vice President Mike Pence,\u2062 Sen.\u200c Tim Scott (R-SC), former \u200bAmbassador to\u200b the\u2064 United Nations Nikki Haley,\u2062 and DeSantis \u2063were all invited\u200c but declined \u200bthe \u2063invitation.<\/p>\n<p>According \u200bto\u200b the \u2063poll, 30%\u2064 of respondents said Kari Lake\u200c should be \u2064vice president, \u206324% \u2064said\u200d Rep. \u2063Byron Donalds (R-FL), and\u2064 22% said Ramaswamy.<\/p>\n<p>Roughly\u200d half \u2062of\u2063 the conference&#8217;s approximate 6,000 attendees\u2064 were college-aged individuals between the \u2063ages\u200b of 18-21, while the other \u200dhalf\u2062 were\u2063 of varying\u2063 ages.\u200b Only \u2062about \u200chalf\u2062 of\u2062 the attendees\u200d responded to the\u200b poll.<\/p>\n<p>There was \u200dmeasurable support\u2062 for Gov. \u200cRon DeSantis\u200d from \u200cattendees,\u200d who \u200cwere\u2063 disappointed that\u200b they would \u2064not hear\u200b from \u2064him on\u2064 this \u2063occasion. \u200dEnthusiasm\u2062 for DeSantis \u200dwas evident, \u2064with \u200dpositive\u200b thoughts and \u2062messages of support posted \u200bon \u2063a large cardboard cutout of \u2062his face outside the main\u2064 hall.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200cpoll also\u200d surveyed attendees \u2063on\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/former-vice-president-mike-pence-joins-the-heritage-foundation\/\" title=\"Former Vice President Mike Pence Joins The Heritage Foundation\">public policy issues<\/a>. \u200cMore \u200dthan 95%\u200c expressed \u200dtheir\u2063 opposition to\u200d United\u2062 States involvement in the\u2063 war in \u200cUkraine. The\u200c southern border\u2064 was\u200c voted the most\u2064 important \u2063issue facing\u2062 America, with nearly \u2062a quarter \u200bof respondents agreeing. Just under 60%\u2063 said \u2064they\u200b were\u200b excited for \u200dthe Republican\u2064 National Committee&#8217;s\u2063 primary debate \u2064next month,\u2062 despite \u200dthe \u2062possibility of\u2063 Trump \u200cnot attending.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, two-thirds\u2064 of respondents\u2062 expressed their\u200c lack of \u2062trust in\u200c the\u2063 RNC to\u2063 get voters\u200d to the \u200dpolls in \u200b2024. \u2064A majority, 77%, \u2063also stated\u200d that they do \u2064not \u200cplan \u200dto \u2064donate \u200cto the\u200b party.
