Ron DeSantis.\u2063 DeSantis \u2064has \u200dconsistently underwhelmed in \u200dthe polls, \u2062however, \u200cwhich\u200c has\u200c led \u200bto reports \u2062their\u200d new \u2063go-to\u2064 guy\u2062 is\u2063 South \u200cCarolina \u200dSen. Tim Scott.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, \u2064at \u200cthe \u2062first \u200cmajor \u200cevent\u200c of \u2063the\u200c campaign \u200cseason \u200dwith most\u2064 candidates \u2064present \u2014 \u2063Trump\u2064 notably skipped\u2064 out \u200d\u2014 \u2062Tucker Carlson\u200d had\u200b a question \u2063for Scott that he \u200cand\u200d GOP \u2063elites\u2064 aren\u2019t \u2064going to\u2063 like answering: If \u200cyou\u2019re getting big-donor \u2064money,\u200b tell us, how \u200ddo\u200c you disagree \u2063with \u200bthose \u200cdonors?<\/p>\n<h3>For \u2062those \u2064who missed it, Carlson \u200dwas the moderator of\u2064 the day-long Friday\u200d forum in which the former \u2062Fox \u200cNews host did\u2064 a series\u200b of \u200done-on-ones with six\u200c of the candidates \u2062\u2014 \u2062in \u2063<a\u2062 href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=iuAGkW4KOEw\"\u200d target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">order of\u2063 appearance<\/a>, Scott,\u2062 former \u200dArkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, \u200bformer \u200bVice \u200bPresident\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/drop-pence-fire-4-words-said-tucker-become-center-campaign\/\"\u200c target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mike \u2062Pence<\/a>, former U.S. \u200dambassador \u2064to \u2062the United Nations and\u200d South\u200c Carolina \u200bGov.\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/nikki-haley-forces-tucker-answer-question-shrug\/\"\u200c target=\"_blank\" \u200crel=\"noopener\">Nikki \u200dHaley<\/a>,\u2063 businessman and\u2063 conservative activist \u2063Vivek Ramaswamy,\u2064 and DeSantis.<\/h3>\n<p>First \u200cup to bat was\u200c Scott, \u2062and \u200cCarlson \u200bnoted,\u2063 roughly\u200c 20 \u200bminutes into the interview,\u200d that he had\u2064 \u201cGoogled you this morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAh. \u200dI did\u2063 that \u2064last\u200c night \u200dwith \u2063you,\u2063 actually,\u201d Scott \u200dsaid, \u2064to laughs. \u200d\u201cI was like, \u2018Wow,\u200c there\u2019s a whole lot to\u200b read!&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After \u2064a bit \u2062of japing \u200bbetween Carlson and\u2062 Scott,\u2064 the <a \u200dhref=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/tucker-carlson-reveals-really-feels-fox-firing-first-sit-interview-since-departure\/\"\u2064 target=\"_blank\" \u2064rel=\"noopener\">former \u2062Fox\u2063 News host<\/a> got to the point: \u200b\u201cThere must have been \u206410 \u2063stories this morning\u200b about \u2062Tim\u2062 Scott, you know,\u2064 shooting to the \u200ctop, and all super,\u200b super complimentary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd all these big Republican\u200d donors, like \u2014 \u2062\u2018Tim Scott\u2019s amazing!\u2019 \u2064And a lot of support \u2064from some \u200dof \u2062the\u200d big money centers in\u2063 the\u200c Republican Party.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ten\u200c might have been an \u2063overstatement, \u2064but there\u2063 were certainly\u200d a few \u2014\u200d most\u200d notably\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/07\/13\/top-donors-tim-scott-00106062\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Politico\u2019s<\/a> \u2063Thursday report, \u2064self-explanatorily titled: \u201cTop\u2062 donors, souring on \u2063DeSantis, start looking \u200bat Tim Scott.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBillionaire businessman \u2062Ronald\u200d Lauder, \u2062the\u200d Est\u00e9e Lauder makeup heir who\u2064 supported Trump in 2020,\u200c recently \u200cflew to \u2064South Carolina\u200d to meet with Scott, \u200bthe\u2063 state\u2019s junior\u200b senator and longshot presidential candidate, according\u2062 to three people\u200b aware\u200d of the late June meeting,\u201d\u200c the outlet\u2019s\u200d Sally Goldenberg\u2062 and \u200dNatalie Allison reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe \u2063meeting comes\u2062 amid widespread angst among \u200cwealthy\u2063 GOP\u200c backers about\u2063 the \u200cemerging\u2063 2024 field, and \u200cDeSantis\u2019 bumpy\u200d start\u2062 in\u200b particular. \u200dMany\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pay-to-play-ambassadorships-alive-and-well-under-the-biden-administration-report\/\" title=\"Pay-To-Play Ambassadorships Alive And Well Under The Biden Administration: REPORT\">high-dollar donors<\/a> in\u200b Trump\u2019s native \u2063New York\u200c City\u200d have\u2063 tired\u200d of the former \u2063president \u2063and \u200cworry \u200dabout his general election \u2063chances,\u201d the report continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut\u200d they say their\u200b faith in\u2063 the \u2062Florida governor\u200c has been shaken \u200cby \u200dearly campaign\u2063 missteps and his hardline positions\u200d on\u200d abortion,\u2064 transgender\u2063 rights and other\u2063 culture-war issues. \u2064They fear \u200btime is running\u200c out\u200c for\u200b anyone else\u200c to\u200b break through.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scott is \u200dthe probable alternative among \u2064those in\u200b what Politico \u200cdescribed \u200das \u2062\u201cthe \u200bcheck-writing\u2064 class\u201d\u2062 \u2014 something <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2023\/07\/13\/politics\/tim-scott-donors\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a> seemed\u2062 to \u2064echo \u200cwith\u2063 a \u2062similar\u200b report later\u200c on \u200dThursday.\u2062 This is despite the fact the\u200d South\u200b Carolina\u200d senator \u200cis \u200brunning \u2062at\u200b only \u20643.2\u2062 percent\u2063 in the\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/epolls\/2024\/president\/us\/2024_republican_presidential_nomination-7548.html\" target=\"_blank\"\u2063 rel=\"noopener\">RealClearPolitics<\/a> polling \u200baggregate, \u200bgood for\u200b fifth. (Trump \u200cremains first \u200bwith 53.0\u2064 percent, \u2062as of Sunday morning, with Scott \u200balso staring\u200b up at\u2062 DeSantis\u2063 with 20.6 \u2064percent, \u200bPence at 6.3\u2063 percent \u2064and Haley \u200bat\u200c 3.4 percent.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI \u2064mean, every candidate \u200cwants that,\u201d\u2064 Carlson \u200csaid. \u201cBut it got me thinking, and\u2064 I\u2019ll ask\u2063 all\u200d the candidates, but what are the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-pick-for-secretary-of-state-tony-blinken-is-connected-to-biden-family-in-their-shady-deals-with-china-and-ukraine\/\" title=\"Biden\u2019s Pick for Secretary of State, Tony Blinken, Is Connected to Biden Family in Their Shady Deals with China and Ukraine\">big issues<\/a>\u2063 on\u200b which \u2063you disagree with\u2062 your donors?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At\u2062 this point \u2014 in\u2063 one \u2062of \u200bthe \u200c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/tim-scott-gets-middle-tucker-carlson-interview-explanation\/\" target=\"_blank\" \u200drel=\"noopener\">more \u200dscrutinized moments<\/a> \u2062of Friday\u2019s \u200bproceedings\u2062 \u2014 Scott\u200d proceeded \u2063to \u200crise \u2062and address \u200cthe \u2064audience \u200cdirectly, joking that the \u201cgood news \u2064is\u2064 I\u2019m glad to hear they\u2019re\u200c all flocking to me. I\u200b wish \u2062they would go\u2063 ahead \u200dand write the\u2063 check,\u2063 too,\u200c because \u2063we \u2063haven\u2019t seen \u2062that yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<div\u200b class=\"firefly-embed\"><br \u200b\/><br \/>\n<br\u200b \/><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI\u200d will \u2064simply \u2064say \u2062that the issues that \u200cI strongly \u200csupport is, \u2062I \u200bbelieve \u200cAmerica \u2062can \u200bdo for \u2062anyone what she \u200chas\u2063 done \u200cfor\u200c me \u200b\u2026 there \u200dis \u2062this time \u2062where \u2064there \u2063is this \u200dpervasive force, \u2064radical\u2062 left, \u200cparts of \u200ccorporate America, that continues to\u200b force this\u200d culture \u200bof\u200b grievance \u2063on the American\u200c people,\u201d Scott told the audience \u2014\u2062 with Carlson\u200d looking slightly incredulous\u200d in the\u2064 background, \u200bit must\u200c be noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd \u200dalong with\u2063 the \u2064culture \u2062of grievance \u2063comes this drug\u2062 of\u200d victimhood,\u2064 the narcotic of despair\u2063 \u2014 that folks have \u200cactually figured\u2063 out\u2064 that you\u200c can make\u2064 a\u200c profit \u2063off \u2064of \u2064conflict,\u201d Scott \u2063continued. \u201cI \u200cwant to\u200c stand in the gap and say \u2063the\u200d truth of my life \u2063disproves the \u200clies\u200b of\u2063 the radical forces \u2063that believe\u200b we should be \u2063in\u2062 constant\u200d conflict \u200dwith one \u200canother. \u2063America needs \u200dpositive \u2063powerful, biblically\u200c sound\u2062 leadership\u2064 to \u200bregain the\u200b high\u2063 ground.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scott\u2062 went on to\u200c relate \u200b<a\u2064 href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/tim-scott-fires-back-left-hits-barrage-racist-attacks-biden-rebuttal\/\" \u2063target=\"_blank\" \u200brel=\"noopener\">his \u2062personal\u200b story<\/a>\u200d and \u200bhis\u200b walk \u2064with\u2063 the \u2064Lord\u200b \u2014 \u2063which is powerful stuff, and \u2063he \u2064said\u2064 that\u2062 \u201cif you write \u2063a check\u200d and \u200dyou don\u2019t like\u2064 that, \u2063you\u2064 can have your\u200c money \u2063back, \u200cbecause\u2063 I \u2064don\u2019t\u200c stand for donors, I don\u2019t\u200d stand \u200cfor folks \u200dwho\u200c contribute, \u200cI stand \u200dbecause\u2064 there\u2063 is \u2064a\u2062 man\u200d Who\u200d walked \u200don this\u200d Earth for 33 years, Who \u2062paid the\u2062 ultimate \u2064price \u2063for\u2062 our freedom,\u200c and \u200cif\u200d I\u2019m going\u200d to do \u2063my job, my job\u200c is\u200b according \u2064to Matthew 25:21: \u200c\u2018Well done,\u200c my\u2063 good\u2063 and\u200b faithful \u2063servant.\u2019 \u200dThat\u2019s the job I\u2062 have.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scott went on to say, \u200bas \u2063he\u200c retook his \u200cseat, \u2062that\u200d \u201cif you play \u200bfor\u2064 an\u2064 audience \u2063of \u200cone, \u200dit doesn\u2019t matter\u2062 who\u2064 makes the contributions.\u2062 Frankly, \u200cI\u200b don\u2019t know\u200c those\u200d donors that you\u2019re\u2064 talking about \u200bwho\u200d are flocking \u200cto my campaign. \u2064I\u2019m looking\u2062 forward to them,\u200c I\u200b really am.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This\u2064 is all\u200b very \u200cnice,\u2063 and\u2063 Carlson\u200c agreed: \u2062\u201cSpeaking for\u200b myself,\u200d I love \u200cwhat you just \u2064said, \u200dand \u200cI \u200bagree\u2062 with \u200bit, amen. \u200dIt\u2019s just \u200c\u2014 a lot of Republican\u200b primary\u200c voters have gotten kind of cynical, because the\u200c Republican\u2064 Party doesn\u2019t care \u200bwhat \u2063they think\u2064 \u2026 that \u200cmaybe\u200c donors are kind\u2062 of \u2064driving \u200cthe \u200dagenda and\u200c not\u200c voters.\u2064 And \u200dI\u2019ve lived\u200b in \u200cD.C. my \u200cwhole life, \u200dand\u2063 that\u2019s \u200dtotally\u200b true.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thus, \u2063the \u2064question\u2063 again: If\u2063 big-name donors\u200c come \u2064to Tim\u200b Scott from the RINOville section \u200cof\u2063 Wall Street, \u2062where would \u2063he disagree\u2063 with them <em>specifically<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p>Scott\u2019s \u2064answer \u200bwasn\u2019t \u2062awful: First,\u200c no\u200d bank bailouts;\u2062 second,\u200c a \u200bnod \u2064toward welfare reform\u2063 to get\u2064 \u201cable-bodied\u201d \u200dpeople \u200dworking; third, \u2063\u201cif \u200cyou commit a \u200bviolent\u2064 crime, \u200byou \u200bgo\u2064 to jail,\u200b period\u201d;\u200c fourth,\u200b \u201cmen \u200dshould compete \u200cin\u200c sports \u2063against men\u201d; and \u2063fifth,\u2063 getting\u200b serious about \u2063closing \u200dthe southern \u2062border.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd for those who\u2062 don\u2019t like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tucker-asks-tim-scott-the-toughest-question-that-the-elite-will-absolutely-hate\/\" title=\"Tucker poses a tough question to Tim Scott, one that the elite will despise.\">common-sense principles \u200cdriven<\/a>\u2063 by the Judeo-Christian\u2062 foundation,\u200b choose\u2064 another candidate,\u201d Scott \u2062said.\u200c \u201cIt\u2019s that simple.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Well, \u2062not\u2063 <em>entirely<\/em> \u201cthat\u200b simple.\u201d\u2063 We\u2063 were four\u200c minutes into \u200bthe\u2063 question before \u2063Carlson \u200cwas able \u2062to bring \u2062Scott\u200c back \u2062to\u200b a point\u2063 of \u200dsubstantively <em>answering<\/em> it,\u2063 which isn\u2019t \u2063exactly\u2064 the best augury for a \u200cfive-point no-buts plan to\u200b counter\u2062 the influence\u200d dithering\u2064 RINO donors \u200cmight \u2064play in\u2064 the \u200d2024 race.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s \u2064difficult to\u2063 disagree\u2063 with what Scott said\u2062 when he\u2062 said\u200d it \u2014 \u2064either \u200din \u200dusing the \u2063question to \u200crelay his\u2062 campaign \u200dnarrative\u200b or \u200bwhen he finally\u200b got down to brass \u2063tacks \u2064\u2014 \u200dbut \u200bit\u2019s also somewhat dispiriting to hear\u2062 the \u2064potential \u200dnew face of \u201cthe check-writing class\u201d take four minutes \u2064to\u2062 <em>get to the point<\/em> where he\u2019ll really answer a\u200d question \u2062about how\u200b he might stand\u2062 up \u2064to said\u200b class.<\/p>\n<p>But,\u200c if\u2062 Scott\u200b also fails to \u2063live\u200b up to the expectations of \u200cthe donors unimpressed with Trump\u2019s\u2064 reputation or\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/desantis-campaign-memo-reveals-new-strategy-catch-donald-trump\/\" \u2063target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DeSantis\u2019\u200d polling\u200d performance<\/a>, \u2064they\u2019ll quickly \u2062move\u2062 on\u2063 to\u2063 the next <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/2020-was-the-brian-stelter-of-years\/\" title=\"2020 Was the Brian Stelter of Years\">big thing<\/a>. \u2064Rest \u200cassured \u200dthey\u2019ll\u2062 also take\u200d a\u200b good\u200d four minutes \u2014 if not\u2064 a whole\u2064 lot longer \u200d\u2014 to give \u200ba \u2062substantive answer, \u200das \u2063well.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s \u2064how it\u200c works. That\u2019s\u200c how D.C. \u2063has always\u200d worked. \u2062And \u200dif\u2063 you want to know why <a\u200d href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/rasmussen-reports-trump-biden-tied-pa-trump-polling-27-among-black-voters\/\" target=\"_blank\"\u2064 rel=\"noopener\">Trump \u200bremains\u2064 popular<\/a>\u200c among \u200cRepublicans, it\u2019s because he\u2019s one of the\u2062 few forces untethered\u200d to the\u2063 Beltway-Wall Street\u2064 axis\u2063 that \u2062has dominated politics for so \u200blong \u2063on\u2062 both sides of the \u200baisle.\u2063 That\u2019s\u200d why the \u200dGOP elite\u2062 with \u2062control\u200c over the\u200c checkbooks\u2064 hate this \u2062question being asked, period, \u2064because\u2064 it reveals \u2062their \u2062priorities \u200baren\u2019t aligned with those \u2062of\u2062 Republican\u2063 voters in\u200d 2023 or 2024.
