However, Democratic \u200cwomen \u200dveterans \u200bin\u200b the House, such as \ud834\udd7aRepresentatives\u2064 Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ)\u200b and\u200b Chrissy Houlahan\ud834\udd7a (D-PA), who voted against the NDAA \u2063with\u200d objections to\ud834\udd7a the abortion amendment, hold \ud834\udd7aa\u200b different perspective.<\/p>\n<p>Sherrill \u200cexpressed her \u2064surprise at\u200d the\u2063 overwhelming GOP \u200bsupport for \u200bthe \ud834\udd7aamendment,\u200b stating,\u200b &#8220;It \u200dwas shocking \ud834\udd7ato me&#8230; especially given what I was\u2063 hearing \ud834\udd7afrom members across the aisle who \u2064I thought\u2063 would\u2063 vote against the \u200bamendment,&#8221; \u2062according to Talking Points Memo.<\/p>\n<p>Concerns for Women \u2064in Uniform<\/p>\n<p>Representative\u2064 Houlahan, through her spokesperson \ud834\udd7aAubrey Stuber, voiced her concerns \u200cabout the \u2063potential \u200dimpact \u2062of this\u200b policy on women in uniform\u2064 and military \ud834\udd7afamilies. Stuber\u200d stated, &#8220;If\ud834\udd7a Republicans pass \ud834\udd7athis policy,\u2062 women\u2064 in uniform \u200dand <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/softballs-and-adoration-read-the-questions-reporters-have-asked-bidens-press-secretary\/\" title=\"Softballs And Adoration: Read The \u2018Questions\u2019 Reporters Have Asked Biden\u2019s Press Secretary\">military families<\/a> will have less access \ud834\udd7ato\ud834\udd7a reproductive care \u2063than\u200b when\u2062 she\u200d wore the uniform \u2063decades \u200dago.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Stuber\u200b further emphasized \u2063the national security\u2062 implications, stating\u200b that it raises \u200dquestions \u200dabout whether \u2064women \u2062would want\u2064 to \ud834\udd7ajoin an institution\u2062 that \u200ddoes not respect their \ud834\udd7aright\u2062 to reproductive care.\u2062 This, in turn, could \u200bdegrade military readiness during\u200c a time of historic recruitment\u200d challenges.<\/p>\n<p>The Battle \u200bAhead<\/p>\n<p>While the \u2064Senate still \u200cneeds \u2063to pass its own version of\u200c the NDAA, it is\u2064 highly \u2064unlikely \ud834\udd7athat\u200c the Democratic majority will include\ud834\udd7a this provision.\ud834\udd7a This\u200b sets \u200dthe \u200dstage for \u200ca\u2063 tough battle\u200b when both \u2064chambers \u2064come together to merge their versions of the bill.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, there are \u2063two women\u2062 veterans in \u200bthe\u2062 Senate who\ud834\udd7a hold \u2062opposing views \u200don \ud834\udd7athe\u2063 matter. Senators\u2062 Joni\u200d Ernst (R-IA) \u200dand\ud834\udd7a Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) are on \u200dopposite\u2063 sides of the debate. Ernst \ud834\udd7ahas already made \u200cefforts \ud834\udd7ato add this amendment to the Senate&#8217;s version\u200c of\u2062 the bill.<\/p>\n<p>Ernst firmly\u200d believes that the Pentagon should \u200dnot be\u200d mobilized against the\u200b unborn.\u200b She argues \u2063that the Department\u200c of \u2062Defense exists to defend\u200b innocent life, not \u200cdestroy\u200b it.
